I fear for your emotional stability as time passes on. Maizono was one of the tame ones.
Still though, if you got through one million fungoes then you've seen the worst of this game's gore. Surprised you didn't comment on that execution. Probably the most gruesome one in the series, with the possible exception of the first execution from the second game.

Surprised you didn't comment on that execution. Probably the most gruesome one in the series, with the possible exception of the first execution from the second game. Those two really were just sadistic. As strange as it sounds, the only story that made me tear up is Uprising, because it DOES have one big difference from this story. You expect the story to be dark, to not pull punches. And then at the very most you feel a twinge of suprise. With games like Uprising, Super Paper Mario, etc, they're given a lighthearted background and then they pull this insane, depressing twist (Like Chapter 18 in Uprising and right before the final boss where the villain's plan is explained (saying that so I don't spoil)) But with dangan ronpa, or scary movies(which are lame btw), or any game that seems dark, you learn to expect things. Though I WILL say, the first death in DR2 really suprised me. In my opinion, it was almost as good as 1's first death.

I wouldn't exactly call Dangan Ronpa 'Dark' in style, more in theme. The way blood is splattered everywhere and some of the cartoonish characters, concepts, and manners of death create a game which I feel contrasts heavily with each other creating a psychotic tone, which isn't necessarily dark. As such I think the tonal difference is just as strong as in any Nintendo games, who as of late have rarely been making stories as great as mother or whatever. I really have no opinion on uprising. I felt nothing the entire time, save for being terrified of Palutana and feeling bad about chuckling at the odd purposefully and joyfully terrible joke/pun. Probably went by too fast for me, since conversations happen during gameplay. I'm awful at multitasking. I think it's much more exaggerated with Dangan Ronpa though in both directions. It doesn't pull punches with the gore, but it also doesn't pull punches with just how crazy the characters are. Almost feels like we're playing through Monobear's mind, who looks like, acts like, and is voiced by a cartoon character himself. I never really felt sad during Dangan Ronpa either, (with the possible exception of chapter 3) because I don't think it's necessarily a game designed to pull at your heartstrings beyond a character you like dying, and they rarely push specific characters upon you besides the Naegi and Monobear obviously and a few of the others who survive until the end. Thus, weather or not you feel sad is entirely subjective. (for example I love every character my friend hates or indifferent to, and vice versa for me with few exceptions)
In SPM, the game is designed to make you feel sorry for count bleck, which in all honesty may be a better way to approach things. However, that makes Dangan Ronpa much, much more entertaining in my book. Just because something contains death doesn't mean it's immediately a horror game, Dangan Ronpa is about as far removed from a horror game as you can get. It's about presentation, really. Earthbound looks about the cutest game ever but the final boss is likely a disguised metaphore for abortion, not to mention anything else that may be in the game. That probably makes it one of the darkest games ever in terms of theme, but in tone? NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Dangan Ronpa really is rather dark... The style makes it a bit more lighthearted, but face it, it's a game about toying with death and breaking peoples' lives, people dropping dead in front of you in bloody scenes, being disconnected from the entire world which supposedly suffered an apocalypse of sorts. Trapped forever indoors never knowing if someone's going to crack under the pressure and someone else will die.
Anyway, it sure pulls heartstrings for me... You say it's like playing through Monobear's mind, to me it's Naegi's mind... It's sad even with characters you don't 'like.' I still felt bad for Enoshima, a sudden violent death just by not wanting to take part in a game of despair. Monokuma struck first (after previously saying he wouldn't harm his students) and she died in self defense in a moment's notice. She was a bit cheerful and actually one of the more cooperative and level-headed of the group... And I didn't mention it, but Kuwata's death was also sad. And it's a good thing they don't show you the corpse afterwards. But still gotta feel sorry for him, I mean, the poor guy just gets called by a qt to her room and finds himself about to be killed, and takes things too far under the pressure. Of course, Maizono's death was the most impacting on a personal level. It's not entirely subjective to me, at least...

The next trial comes and goes... So long, Fujisaki and Oowada. By a sick twist of fate, two more good peoples' lives turned the wheel of fate to the end if the road, as another tragic betrayal occurs, cutting deep to Ishimaru above all. Though I'm not find of how artificially deceptive traps are in anime... But alas, their good memories will carry on, as Monobearenza shoulders the true blame without the slightest of sentiments. The loss of Ishimaru's first true friend was not of malice.
Despite how average I am, there is also something beyond that. I am an ally of justice, the super duper high school average genius of justice, who shall adorn the sinful crown of betraying my friends' crimes, in the name of justice, courage, and friendship. Togami seems to acknowledge only me as a rival, however, despite the fact that Kirigiri has brought up decisive points more than a few times as well.
It is now time for another sad night's rest as the academy becomes emptier, awaiting only the heartless Monobearenza's next strike to bring discord to whatever peace we may establish.

How did I miss this? And what associates me with Monobear... actually ok you can associate lots of things about Monobear with me, but that's not the point. Good luck with future trials, you'll need them. Watch out for the genocider, too, she could do whatever at any moment!

It's not a big deal... I already know there's a psycho genocider running around the school. It's part of the second trial, you know. And it's even more painfully obvious when she runs into the cafeteria with her scissors the next morning. Also, pretty sure you quoted my wrong post earlier (as if it matters). Anyway... Monobearenza, face it, you love Monobear, you love Kyuubey (Kyuubearenza?), you say you experienced the story through his point of view, felt no sadness for some characters... And if that's not enough, you made a Dangan Ronpa RP and killed us all off within 3 days (so long Kyraiser the awesome roboticist), and have an RP going now with plans to eventually pit us all together fighting for our lives.

Uh... Good luck with future trials? I figured you just meant the genocider as you blanked that part of the quote... Which just makes it even more suspicious.

Speaking of fanart, I hope you didn't look for that. I recommend against it since there are many spoilers in them, like Fukawa being presented as the genocider for most of them and much more. I really question Steve's memory if he cant even remember the genocider turning up in the trial which was basically dedicated to her reveal. That is really, really worrying.

I don't remember the big picture, usually small details. Besides, it's been half a year since I read DR, and I haven't reread it...I didn't even really read it thoroughly. I read it, but it was kinda speedreading. Main thing I remember about that trial was Ishimaru going nuts about whodunnit.
*Reads what is in chapter 2 so far* NOOOOOOOO, NOT _________! how could you kill ___________!?!? And with that I'm beginning to notice a trend with DR's murders... Also, I think I know who did it. Actually, I have three suspects from the little bit of info.

Do you read the speculation in the thread? As someone who has all the important parts of DR2 spoiled for myself, I can say that this case isn't very difficult to suss out. Anyway I'd stay away from the speculation, it's either insanity taken form of words or alarmingly spot on.

I don't read the comments, just the lp. I'll PM you my thoughts. Let me know if one of my suspects is the culprit.

Ishimaru, Yamada, Celes, farewell... I suspected Ishimaru was going to go down, after the birth of his final transformation. Neither his order nor burning spirit remain. Yamada was an alright guy... But in the end, I couldn't sympathize with him, his reasons weren't quite justifiable (also, did I miss how he knew Celes' real name? Wasn't fond of that super convenient plot twist, either...). And Celes, she really got me... I really saw her as a free spirit with an ominous side, but not a heartless killer (I did find it strange how extended her role was throughout the whole thing, but I attributed most of that to the cast being very thinned down). How can dohyaaaaaaa and ehehe be the guise of a cold murderer? Yet, she didn't have a good reason in the end, either... There goes half of my freetimes. I guess in the end I still pity both culprits, though, as it's all one big stage.
As for now... Fell into the secret room and learned about some of the mysteries of the whole ordeal from Alter Ego, but Kirigiri is rather angry with me as if I missed a date or something... I wanted to tell her about Oogami, but something wouldn't let me. Now Kirigiri thinks I'm a hypocrite of a friend.

I believe Naegi didn't want to Oogami or tell anyone about her because doing so would cast perhaps unwarranted suspicion on her. Of course, Naegi doesn't want to make the slightest mistake that may end in giving someone a motive, because there has already been plenty of death.
