Hey ho so I've been talking about this a lot. Dangan Ronpa is a japanese visual novel for the PSP that a real life friend of mine bugged me into reading not long back. It's really good. It can be surmised as being 'phoenix wright' crossed with 'battle royal/hunger games (Only good) It essentially follows our hero Makoto Negai as he enters an academy where only the incredibly gifted attend 'hopes peak academy'. However when there he is knocked unconscious, and the 15 remaining students including himself are met by a bear called monobear (or, monokuma) who tells them that they must either live a communal lifestyle within the school, kill another student without the rest knowing in order to 'graduate.' And thats about the gist of it. Every character is incredibly likeable, unique and the entire game just has this epic atmosphere. ... Unfortunately, it will never be localised in all likely hood, because 'spike' who made it is a small company, and the game is too heavy on japanese wordplay and references to japanese culture for it to really make sense in the west, not to mention it's probably too dark to reach a wide enough audience. That said, some awesome guy decided to do an incredibly detailed and well done LP, which translates the entire game, including adding screenshots and music from the OST to make it just as pleasurable to read as I imagine it would to play, well, almost as good. Still really good. Christ I've only just finished the 3rd chapter, (just started 4th, out of 6 chapters) and I've been reading for a few days solid... *sigh* I'm either a slow reader or I get to distracted... probably both... Anyway I felt a tear to my eye come at the end of the 3rd chapter. My love for Monobear thankfully did not detract me from the drama of the moment, (which is what happened to me in Madoka magica with Kyubey) although, I think I'm the only one who felt sad at the end of chapter 3, it's not like it was heart wrenching, it was just sad to see a certain someone go. Obviously, plenty of people die in this game. So, it's not really a spoiler... |

Chapter 3...I agree. Maybe you're not thinking of the same person, but I really liked _____.
Just wait though; chapter 4 is when it gets real.

Chapter 4 scares me. Anyone could go now and I know at least two have to die. I think there's only one character who I don't care enough for, but I know that person will be kept alive anyway for whatever reason... that person should have bit the dust long ago.

You know though, "that thing" still confuses me. I don't understand WHY HE IS STILL HERE. not to mention why he doesn't seem to remember anything. And why they added _____ if they were going to ____ ___ ___ after the prologue. Monobear's entrance was amazing though; I'm just loving this bear more and more. Such an amazing villain...I'm curious to see who it is this time. |

Still, it is hinted that he may have some recollection of events, which for some reason he doesn't share right off the bat. Something tells me he still has a lot of relevance left despite (blank). And yes, Monobear is amazing. My favorite character was the person controlling him in the first game, but in DR2 that goes to Nagito followed closely by Monobear, but that will probably be topped by the mastermind of this game. Unless Monobear is an AI this time around or something. So, I assume your totally up to date on the sequel now? That means we can start speculating over PM. |

Everyone pretty much knows who did it at this point, although in the forums we're still trying to work out (Blank's) motives, and some specifics. It's really tough, and this is a much better case than the first game's case. (I mean seriously, the dying message) EDIT: Oh and are you reading Dangan Ronpa 0 too? Might be a nice DR related distraction until the next update. Also, I found out that the trial being suspended is just a save point, it resumes immediately afterwards. This also means that we're only halfway through the trial. |

I know right. The first game's case was just wayyy too easy.
I'd say his motives are probably something along the lines of him just calling food ordinary with no real difference. Or was that the athlete? By the way, I hate her. I didn't mind Aoi, but this girl is just stupid and annoying. SHE DOESNT SEEM TO UNDERSTAND THE GRAVITY OF THE SITUATION EVEN IN THE COURT ROOM.

Yeah she's weird, and thankfully non intrusive for the most part. Like (Blank) she probably wont die unfortunately.
Also you have to consider the motive Monobear gave the students earlier in the chapter. Don't speak it allowed here because spoilers for the first game, but it may help us come to understand the culprit more. I think our culprits motives are far more complex than (Blank) simply didn't like his food, in fact, the murder has been speculated to be an accident or perhaps Nagito manipulated him somehow.

^Well of course there's that motive...and that ______ was acting like the leader saying "nobody will be killed under my watch." so maybe _______ saw ______ as a major threat if ________ didn't kill that person.
You know, I doubt claxus will read Dangan ronpa 2 anyway, so why are we running off mutual understanding with these spoilers?

I still don't want to be a dick to anyone else wishing to read Dangan Ronpa unspoiled. Besides, I wont rest until he does, even if I have to resort to... well, I'll leave it at that. Anyway everyone should read it/watch it when the anime comes out.
