I decided to spoil certain elements of SDR2 for myself because I needed to be sure that my fanfiction would actually gel with the rest of the official cannon to a degree. ... I love where they decided to go with the story. Luckily for me, outside of a few victims and one murderer, I know nothing about the actual cases.
In terms of my fanfiction, I may need to rework a lot of it and maybe set it in an alternate universe... if only because some of my plans for it was stuff similar to what is already in SDR2, and the first death in my fanfiction is already similar enough to the first one... *sigh* I'm going to need to try harder.
I approve of Monobear and Monomi's controllers in SDR2. I very much approve.

Yay! ... Too bad the anime is coming out in a few short weeks. Depending on quality, it may make the game a little less worth playing. Do you still plan on it? I'm sure that the game will be the best way to experience it, mostly because it will be allowed to have more detail and such.

I plan on starting the game soon... Very soon. The anime may be out in a few weeks, but then there'a also going to be like 3-6 months before it actually finishes airing, depending on how long it is. I may watch the anime, but it wouldn't be for a long time probably, as I still have many (mech) plans and will have already played the game within its recentness. After all, the three mecha animes this year are also very closed to finished now (one already is).

Could I perhaps ask for a running commentary on your thoughts on it throughout your playthrough?

DANGIT. :I I'll tell you the moment I find out, but as a member it is virtually impossible to tell unless I go out of my way to do so. As such I'd check back regularly if I were you, it may be best to wait at least until the trial starts which could be a few weeks.

Finished introductions with all the characters... I'm just starting to realize, Makoto is really average.

It would be interesting to see how the translation differs from the translation in the LP. Also yeah, Makoto is so average that it's like an abnormality in itself.

The writing seems very good. Top notch quality, seems just like a localization. And to an extent, it really is... It had an American joke, where I assume there was Japanese culture humor before. But yeah, I suppose it's a phase that will end soon, but it's a bit annoying how practically every other sentence Makoto takes time to note how average and non-special he is.

Ahh I see, the LP kept all of the Japanese cultural references in tact and left notes explaining it. Quite informative. Good to hear that it's good though, even though from the sounds of it I prefer the LP's style of translation.
I can only assume that you've encountered Monobear by this point but I thought I should mention that his voice actor is the same voice of a popular japanese character named Doraemon, a cute little cartoon character, and the voice actor isn't trying to disguise the simularities.
Anyway, imagine if Micky mouse was speaking through this guy. Thanks to his voice, that's what it is like for Japanese players.

I guess the route they took is the only way that works, since there's no way to have notes explaining jokes in-game. But it really does feel like it's an officially translated VN. Only seen a bit of Monobear after getting introduced to everyone and he tells everyone to go to the gym. Actually just got caught up in some Kid Icarus Uprising hype again so I haven't played as much as I would have.

My running commentary thus far: That Kiyo something guy is awesome. I'm having a hard time with most if these names. I just found out Makoto is very average. I'm also having a hard time understanding why a nationwide famous pop idol is so shy. I knew right from the start she'd end up throwing herself on Naegi... Oh well.
Besides that, can't really call anyone suspicious at this point. The game sure takes its time (although so do I), just finished the first day. The quest to find the pop idol glued to me a weapon begins.

It's strange what I remember most of these characters by. For example, Kyotaka (or whatever) I remember by his surname ishimaru, and I remember Makoto more as Naegi. Sayaka I remember as Maizono, I remember Byakuya better as Toogami. Basically, for a lot of them I remember them as their surnames. With the exception of Aoi, Junko, Celes, and Sakura.
Still, Makoto and Sayaka should be memorable. Associate them with the ones from Blazblue and Madoka, if your having trouble I guess.
The game moves slowly but you'll think its going by too quickly once the bodies start piling up.
Oh and you may be tempted to skip free time but don't, they're some of the best scenes in the game. Occasionally however you wont be able to complete all of them for plot reasons, but don't fret since the game gives you a mechanic which lets you see all of them.

That's because, from what I've seen, people in japan are called by their last name first instead of their first.

Yeah, apparently you have to be considered really close to someone in a relationship to refer to them as a name other than their last name. Not to mention all of the honorifics. Its really confusing in some megami tensei games where they'll ask you to put in your character's second name then their first name. Really confused me in DSO where the coding for this was intact from the Japanese version, but the text indicated that I was to put in first name first and second name second, which lead to me walking around with my first name as my second name and my second name as my first name. That really confused me until the patch set things straight.

Trial starts now. I am justice! Also probably doesn't need to be said, but I won't hold back on spoilers from now on. I'm also wondering if it's not supposed glaringly obvious to be what that '11037' is... The cool jacket girl with light purple hair (don't worry I have half the names down) said it was the numbers 11037, and I went 'what, those are numbers?!' I still don't get how Maizono wrote it as an upside down mirrored image, but... I'm still not blaming Leon or anyone just yet.
Anyway, as much as I expected Maizono to be the impossibly ideal girl, it was just as obvious that she was going to be the first death (and they paid so much attention to that dang bathroom I [95%] knew it was over as soon as they switched rooms), and as expected, I grew attached to her anyway and it still broke my heart (Junko's death however was not so predictable, but also very sad). Completely unaffected by cliches and archetypes, that's how I roll. In any case, this is my first 'horror' game, really. I tend to stride away from such dark games that take death and such so realistically as honestly I don't take well with those concepts and graphics, but I gotta say the pink blood really helps, a lot. Still so heartbreaking and I want to cry.

The plot thickens and my heart breakens... Maizono was using me all along, planning to graduate?! I must push forward with my justice to find out... But even if that turns out to be the case I couldn't even blame her...

Maizono's death was actually really surprising to most audiences. Japanese audiences, anyway. See the game's marketing heavily suggested that Maizono was going to be the games female lead, with her being the character most appearing on advertisements and such besides Monobear and Naegi. On top of that, the demo has a completely different victim (Hagakure) which means that in the demo, Maizono and even Junko are still alive and participating. As such, it was a great early game punch.
How are you adapting to the trial gameplay? I hear that the crosshair is purposefully difficult to aim. The pink blood is obviously for censoring, but I think they just decided to role with it and turned it into a stylistic choice so that they could throw it everywhere.

And that's that... A depressing trial of justice. Blazed through as it was simply putting the alphabet together... But that's to be expected from the first trial. The whole crosshairs thing is pretty alright though, at least in the medium difficulty. It just kinda sways around but not hard to aim at all, the main issue is having to read and aim, and choose the proper ammunition, as the debate passes by quickly... But it's not a problem really, since debates just rewind at the end, so I just read through them first now and get my ammo and crosshairs ready. Piecing the manga together was a bit annoying with the tiny pictures you have to plop in. And machine gun talk is just gimmicky. Well, overall it's all just gimmicks, which I find very entertaining as they keep you on edge as would a real trial.
So. I explored the second floor and it's now time for the daily meet-up, that's where I left off... As for Maizono, it's still very depressing... I'll probably feel that for a day or two. I always take these sorts of stories to heart too much... It'll affect my mood for the following 24-48 hours as if I actually had any reason to sulk. I'm too sappy for this. *sleeps with images of a bloodied, dead Maizono (and various flashbacks) ingrained in his mind's eye*
Right, but... I did basically think of her as a heroine. That's what she was, really. But I dunno... That's the thing, the nature of the game and Monokuma and all, my intuition was telling me all along, 'this is the kind of story that won't pull any punches,' and what better surprise than the traumatic death of the 'heroine?' I'm an esper, after all. Just kidding, it's just a feeling if intuition I had...
Maizono's betrayal on the other hand wasn't in my list of possibilities (am I just too blindly trusting?). Still sad, since it was just due to all the pressure than ill-intent, so I couldn't blame her at all in the end. Can't really blame Kuwata either... Well, let's see how well I sleep tonight. (Besides the fact it's already almost 6am and I have to be up around 8am) And that concludes tonight's Let's Play: Claxus' Emotions.
