Heliolisk is depressing and can't learn Discharge. GameFreak gave it Parabolic charge instead. ...which sucks because they didn't give it enough power. If they gave it 75 like Drain Punch or Giga Drain it'd be great.

Actually, it sucks because Heliolisk always dies to one hit... Discharge would be infinitely better even if it got buffed, being a fast glass cannon is what he does best, it would do so much good for him if he could hit both enemies at once with his high Sp. Attack. I wonder who makes these decisions. The solar power pokemon (Heliolisk) can't learn solar beam. Gonna post my whole team again: Gakito (Kecleon) (M) @ Life Orb Ability: Protean EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD Adamant Nature - Power Up Punch - Sucker Punch - Shadow Sneak - Fake Out Akashic (Skarmory) (F) @ Rocky Helmet Ability: Sturdy EVs: 252 HP / 232 SpD / 24 Spe Careful Nature - Stealth Rock - Brave Bird - Whirlwind - Protect Chamelius (Mismagius) (M) @ Pixie Plate Ability: Levitate EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe Timid Nature IVs: 30 Def / 30 SpA / 30 SpD / 30 Spe - Power Gem - Shadow Ball - Dazzling Gleam - Protect Switchy (Flygon) (M) @ Choice Scarf Ability: Levitate EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe Hasty Nature - Draco Meteor - Earthquake - Superpower - Defog Suzakun (Greninja) (M) @ Expert Belt Ability: Protean EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe Timid Nature - Surf - Ice Beam - Hidden Power [Fire] - Mat Block Gatiko (Heliolisk) (M) @ Choice Specs Ability: Dry Skin Shiny: Yes EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe Hasty Nature - Thunderbolt - Surf - Dark Pulse - Hyper Beam
I have to say, Gakito (Gekko Akito, as in the anime guy who spams gekigan flare on a mech) has been surprisingly good and pivotal to the team now... It makes me happy. With this set, Fake Out does around 1/4 or 1/5 HP to a lot of non-bulky Pokemon, and of course, is amazing for Doubles. His other two priority attacks are great in Doubles... GEKIGAN FLARE (Sucker Punch) does some huge damage even normally effective... But I can never pull off a Power Up Punch. I'm not sure it's worth using with him in a Doubles setting. So, I've been thinking of going with Magic Guard, does that sound good? He pairs well with anything. AKASHIC BUSTAAA has done me well with setting rocks, and being a sort of support wall, but I'm wondering if there's any Pokemon that may have more synergy. I'm thinking of Mega Aggron to really round up the team as a stronghold beautiful gundam of a mecha lizard that also can set rocks. Mismagius is kind of YEEEES, it has such good coverage with that moveset, nice speed, and a hefty Sp. Def.. Dazzling Gleam hits both enemies, I gave him Pixie Plate for that and because I'm not really sure what other item to use. Protect... Probably changing, Mismagius learns a huge pool of support, any recommendations? Chamelius as in Chameleos (from Monster Hunter, a chameleon elder dragon with veeery similar appearance qualities... ... Holy crap I just remembered Chameleos' armor set helmet was a purple wizard hat) and Claxus... Because I'm a mage4ever in games. Switchy is pretty cool. He has two very strong attacks that lower his stats afterwards... And STAB urfquake. Then he switches out. The name has nothing to do with that. Very nice pair with Skarmory and Mismagius. Suzakun-kun... Does what Greninja does, with REVERSE TATAMI protecting the team for a turn. Except... DARN PRIORITY ALL OVER DOUBLES. And Gatiko the nuclear power lizard... I gave him Surf for obvious reasons. Him and Greninja have a field day spamming Surf. GEKIGAN BEAM... I like it because the damage is incredible with STAB and Choice Specs, and is an answer to almost anything if I'm out of options... It's often a guaranteed win when both players are at their last two, or final Pokemon. Plus, Gatiko needs a signature move. tl;dr I think I've finally reached a semi-competent team I'm content with... Almost. Just looking for fine-tuning ideas, and thinking about Mega Aggron to take Skarmiry's role. Or maybe Mega Scizor to take Scyther's old place and give my team a sweeper.

wahts a smogon? also i just meant that my only decent team uses mega blaziken, and i think mewtwo... both with the capacity to mega, depending on how i feel. or who im against. i tried to build teams around one or two megas, so that i had options currently im playing kid icarus or working on my teams for y, when im not actually working, which is almost never. which is ironic considering management says my performance "needs improvement"

Smogon banned Aegislash. They're getting awfully spam-happy with that ban hammer. No more smogon for me, I'll stick to wi-fi.

Seems like a bit much... But at the same time, it was pretty much mandatory or close to it in any team because of how good it is and fighting it was a guessing game. I would have liked some sort of fix, but I guess all they can really do is ban... And yeah, that's jut too much.

I would have liked some sort of fix, but I guess all they can really do is ban... And yeah, that's jut too much. I liked the pokemon from the start, it's not because it's some glue to all my teams (though I base most of my teams around it) but because it's one of my favorite, if not my favorite, pokemon. If smogon is going to make me play against legendaries just to use my favorite pokemon, then I won't play smogon. It's that simple. I've been increasingly losing faith in smogon anyway, it seems like they're banning anything that becomes prominent in OU at this point. Just watch, Talonflame is next. Mega Gengar I understood. Mega Kangaskhan...I never had trouble with it but I can see why. But the Swagger ban onwards is just absurd to me. I like Aegislash because I like its design, its typing, it's concept (basically a fencer or a knight, which is cool) and how it plays more than everything else. Those "guessing games" are my favorite part about Aegislash; it's not just some cookie cutter "pick these moves to win" like Garchomp. Both facing an Aegislash and using one are a lot of fun for me. You don't know what set it's running since it can run so many, you have to predict around King's shield and try to psych out your opponent, and so on. Aegislash is one of the things that made Gen 6 what it was for me, and if smogon's going to try to make me not use it in a normal battle, then I won't associate with them. You just watch. Next they're gonna ban something like Greninja or Talonflame.

I know you like it, it's just it becomes annoying when Aeigislash is one of the Pokemon 95% of teams online have just because it's good and fits in any team. And guessing can be fine, it's Pokemon, and my favorite Pokemon relies purely on mindgames, it's just kind of annoying how well it plays that guessing game with the massive stat switching and amazing moves. But a ban is dumb when it has as many (common) weaknesses as it does, and anything with Sucker Punch checkmates it.
I would cheer you on to at least try to find a niche with Eviolite Doublade, it's more practical than Kecleon at least, as an amazing physical wall with hig attack as well. Wi-Fi will just have lame teams abusing Minimize and stuff.

Wi-Fi will just have lame teams abusing Minimize and stuff. Oh, I use Eviolite Doublade from time to time too, it's a cool pokemon too. I just like Aegislash more. You say Aegislash is very good at mindgames...no... Aegislash gives incredible results for good mindgames. If you're opponent knows what they're doing, one mishap will probably kill you. And yes, he has quite a plethora of weaknesses (burn kills physical variants, Foul Play and Sucker Punch troll him like crazy, to name a few.) that stop him. Now, if he had recover, or some other recovery move not named rest, then I'd say he should possibly be uber. But he's essentially a Dusclops who can hit hard. They both have incredible defenses, but neither of them have a reliable recovery move, and this cripples their bulk immensely. Oh, and Quagsire, my other favorite, trolls offensive Aegislash like crazy. Unaware ignores stat boosts, without these Aegislash doesn't even do 50% with any of its attacks (even a modest Aegislash using Shadow Ball doesnt do 50% to my 252HP/252SDef Quag) and Quag OHKO's Aegislash with Earthquake, which is also unaffected by King's Shield so Aegi can't do KS shenanigans to lower his attack. Of course, that's one pokemon, but I guess that's why I've never had trouble with Aegislash, since Quag and Aegi are basically staples on all my teams now.

still working on my teams currently, though i have a couple id like to try out, if anyone is free for a battle in a few, also want to trade for a scizor, my scyther currently has a metal coat, so ill trade it, then have it traded back. as i want to test out mega scizor. also have a tyranitar, which i will breed to make eggs in the event anyone wants a larvitar. id prefer to get an aron as id like to test out mega aggron too. so id trade for that. also also, if anyone has a minccino they wouldnt mind breeding to trade an egg to me thatd be great. otherwise i dont really have much. oh yea im gonna post another chapter to my pokemon fanfic today too, (like anyone is still interested in it ) i have decided that since a. i got "behind on it" and b. i dont feel like writing that many chapters, that im going to take a pokemon origins approach and skip through some things, while still giving the plot in a relatively lateral manner.

;A; I'm sorry Metal, I lent my Pokemon game to a friend briefly so he could grind pokemon through the daycare lumoise penny-under-the circle pad trick with one 3DS and breed with the other. We're making a "Pokemon League" at our school (which is awesome since we get to make our own rules too!(like allowing Aegislash for one)) and he needs to get his team finished by Friday. Once again, I'm sorry. Your timing is terrible.

That's a good team except for one thing: rock. Not SR rox, rock slide rox. Garchomp and TTar are very, very common, and no rock resists is a serious problem, though not too bad. Doubles do play differently though; stealth rocks and boosting aren't nearly as important and protect is. However, if you are gonna boost that's one of the best options.

It's sad I couldn't really find an use for Heliolisk except as a mediocre glass cannon with a hyper beam gimmick... Probably wouldn't have been so bad were it not condemned with a random Normal typing. I can only pray he gets some good change on Pokemon orz. Only thing right now is Electrify with Mega Sceptile can actually be a thing, but that's a gimmick for another Pokemon with a sad typing.
But... Mega Sceptile's stats are actually looking rather fearsome which could make up for it. HP - 70 ATK - 110 DEF - 75 S ATK -145 S DEF - 85 SPD - 145
I may go for it instead of Tropius, and then Charizard for Heliolisk or another Pokemon.
Anyway, yeah, I only go Doubles now. Tropius has been surprisingly decent as a defensive tank (Harvest/Leech Seed antics is really cool), which my team really needed, but its typing has too many holes in it... And Skarmory kind of has the same role but is more reliable. Still more synergy than Heliolisk though.
What's a good Pokemon to change Tropius? Of the ones I really like that resist Rock, there's Golurk, Bisharp, Hariyama, and Gallade. Probably not Golurk, since there's Mismagius. Bisharp, weak to fighting, nope. Gallade, possibly? Good typing and coverage for my team, and I love it, but I find it's too slow for Doubles... And Hariyama may be the best choice of all here. Slightly tanky, resists Rock and Dark which my team needs, and this guy learns Fake Out, Helping Hand, Wide Guard, and Bullet Punch.

Despite this thread being called "X and Y" I feel like it should kinda cover the entirety of Gen 6. That said...I'm seriously considering going to VGC next year. I'd love to battle any of you on Pokemon Showdown to test teams, but in the meantime, this is my team right now:
Sableye @ Sablenite Prankster Impish 252 HP, 100 Atk, 64 Def, 92 SDef (EVs still to be determined) - Knock off - Taunt - Will-O-Wisp - Protect Sableye has always been one of my favorites. With his mega, he's super bulky too (and with Magic Bounce!) Sableye's goal is a few things: 1. Check TR teams with Prankster Taunt (he gets to keep priority non-attacking the turn he mega evolves, and sometimes I just don't evolve him) 2. Cripple heavy hitters in VGC, the most common ones being Gardevoir, Aegislash, Mega Kang, Mega Mawile, and Garchomp. Sableye does this is two ways. He can cripple physical attackers with burn, or he can cripple opponents by removing their items with Knock Off while also hitting very hard. Protect is there because Protect is a staple on almost any doubles pokemon.
Mawile @ Mawilite Intimidate Adamant 252 HP, 12 Atk 60 Def, 176 SDef, 8 Spd - Iron Head - Play Rough - Knock Off - Protect Mawile plays a similar role to Sableye (thus they are both my megas since I rarely use both pokemon together; if I do, Sableye becomes a priority crippler) but far more dangerous. 60 Def EVs are to survive a Life Orb Talonflame Flare Blitz. SDef EVs have a purpose too, but I forgot it. 8 Speed EVs are to outrun other Mawile not running speed. Iron Head/Play Rough are STABs. Knock Off is another powerful move that cripples the opponents pokemon. Protect is once again obvious. Little Attack investment because Mega Mawile hits like a truck anyway, and more in many cases I found out was just overkill (it has 278 Attack with this investment amount anyway; that's enough to kill most things)
Garchomp @ Life Orb
Togekiss @ Sitrus Berry
Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Chandelure @ Assault Vest
Will post the details of the rest later, but those are my megas. I run two since you only bring 4 pokemon into battle anyway and they fufill similar purposes, but with different goals. Also, it makes people think my Sableye isn't mega.
