I do like my speedy offence. I mash a lot, so I liked playstyles that reward my lack of precision. And yeah, Claxus definitely plays very careful, though close quarters, neutral game. He doesn't necessarily play an offensive offence however, at least when compared to me.
I've been thinking recently, and I've also been wondering if I prefer playing characters with full screen punishes. Both Relius and Minazuki have moves which send out an ally (Ignis/Tuskuyomi) to appear right on top of the opponent and attack. Minazuki has the teleport, too. Dunk Hunt Dog was a fast character in Smash 4 with fast zoning options too.
Translating this to Monster Hunter, Insect Glaive is the only weapon with an ally like a persona/robot wife/8bit gunmen built into them. I can have both my speedy offence and near instant zoning with the bug, as opposed to just pure bow or bowgun zoning. I think the Glaive would be the weapon most consistent with my fighting game preferences.
Amazon said my order has been dispatched, I'm hoping it will arrive tomorrow and not Saturday as it predicted.

Clax is the main attacker, you're the fast mid range guy, and I'm the bulky support...or the one hit wonder. Clax is the hunter, you're the ranger, I'm the force (PSO analogy works.) Since I like heavy hitting support, the hunting horn has caught my interest lately too.

Yeah, the lance has a long backhop, and the normal backhops are very fast and can be chained, along with sidesteps. It's a little weird at first, but it's the best dodge movement in the game. Combined with the blocking counter, you just stay relentlessly on a monster, hopping and stepping around them and just piercing through their attacks with your own. The hops and charge attack can be used to quickly close gaps. The hop me and Al were talking about though is while doing the joust attack, you can jump on command to do a long running hero jump into a jump attack. The lance is probably the most skillful weapon with how much positioning, reacting, and timing you need.
Oh, and the Kinsect does damage but mostly is just for getting essences. No harm in just throwing it out any moment you're not in melee range though. It does enough damage to possibly flinch monsters at times, at least, I knocked out Magala off the air once with my Kinsect. The Glaive is the most expensive weapon though, because you have to raise Kinsects. Most people go for Speed, but if you really like attacking with it, you can raise it for Power.
Also, I'd like to say I'm the Braver, and Al is the Fighter. PSO2 stuff... Hunters get heavier weapons, Fighter gets the twin daggers and double blade and knuckles and stuff. Braver gets a longsword and shieldsheathe, and a bow, both being fairly powerful and agile. Though I enjoyed being a Force with a gunblade build...
Welp, it's finally time. Maybe. EU store got the game a while ago... And I think I'm going digital (in 3 hours?!), but still not sure.

Decided to just go for a physical copy, so guess I'll sleep tonight. So that's it, the adventure begins today! We are Monster Hunter! It has some spoilers but it's fairly light, the main thing being a giant mosnter that gets a total of about 5 seconds. It's seriously worth seeing, anyway, now that it's finally time, to get a glimpse of what's to come. It's like an awesome anime opening and depicts what Monster Hunter is all about... And a final goodbye to the last season...Don't blind your eyes!

This is where my story begins.
... Continues, anyway.
Be sure to go to the eShop, and get the 1.1 patch. It gives quite a hefty supply of items to start out which will let get into the game quicker, basically cutting away a long time of farming materials. Also materials to make a Mario or Luigi costume for your Felyne with a matching hammer. You can find it by just searching 'Monster Hunter' at the shop.

Didn't know about the patch, I've already done the worst of the early game grind now. I've fought Great Jaggi and Seltas, some monsters in the arena, and a blue Jaggi like monster in an expedition, which also happens to be my first guild quest. I'm also using the Charge Blade for now because I'm going to need much more speed nectar in order to make the Insect Glaive viable to use.
Any idea what our first hunt will be?

I'm actually gaming with friends today, so I'll hunt with you guys tomorrow. EDIT: I got about 2 hours of Monster Hunter in. Big Monsters a thrill, small monsters are fine, collecting is no big deal either. Basically it's awesome. Let my friend play on my New 3DS and he's played more than I have. So I'm going to play a lot today.

I'm way behind, but I'm definetly playing this again. (Not today. I'll play some on my own tomorrow, then I might play online tomorrow evening.)

Either way, it's kind of a shame, because I've basically stopped playing now. I've got games to make and blogs to write. I'm sure Claxus is still on a lot, though.
