Discovery! The damage a weapon does is effected by where you hit for weapons that increase or decrease damage with range. For example, when I hit a monoeye at 40m range with my 4.5R Standing ch.shot +3 Flintlock staff, tje damage greatly varies. When I hit it straight in the eye, my damage varies from 220-223 damage, depending on where I hit. (straight at the eye does 221.8-222.0, directly left or right on the edge does 222.6-223.0) HOWEVER, if I shoot further down, the closer to thr ground my shot lands, the more damage I inflict, from about 231-274! I'm about to test this on the practice dummy in a match room.
Also, avaliable to play. EDIT: oddly, it only seems to make a big difference at 40m, but it works with the same physics on humans too.

That's kinda strange. My guess is hitboxes are kinda round, so shooting off from the center hits a small curve in distance, and weapons like Flintlock's damage probably work in distance thresholds, and that tiny difference between 40m makes the difference. Then again, that's just the only thing I can come up with, it doesn't really make sense that it only works at 40m so drastically simply by where you shoot one target.
One of my inexplicable discoveries... If you stand very close to an enemy and face away from them, if you dash away and shoot immediately, you'll actually do a forward dash shot at point blank. It's kind of weird, because the character is moving backwards while doing the forward shot animation.
Unfortunately, it seems neither of these things have any practicality.

So I deleted my file without thinking because I wanted to enjoy the feeling of building up. ...As a result, my Viridi Parahax Claws are gone. HOWEVER, from just the first three levels I've gotten great weapons already, in particular a HP+5 OD+3 Artillery Claws, Shaking+3, Speed+4, HP+2 Insight Staff, a Full Health-Attack Boost +6, R3.5 Optical Blade, and Paralysis+3 Insight Staff. ...That Paralysis is going into a pair of Viridi Claws.

Besides all the treasure hunts, it should be fine. It's just the kind of game that can always offer a great experience. You'll be fusing awesome new stuff in no time. You'll have a new ace weapon sooner or later. And either way, the story's a blast to play through.
Last night, I fused what I might consider an ace weapon... Cruser Blade with 4R and 1.5M stars, Paralysis +3, Shot Range +2, and Speed +2. At least, I love its versatility. Very solid weapon overall. The range and speed boost its weaknesses, and it's more like a First Blade with better shots with cancellation. The backdash charge is great anti-melee, and the paralysis can kick in pretty easily with its ranged shots, allowing to make better use of it being one of the stronger melee blades. It's a bit weak, but so efficient, and as much as I hate to say it, not as braindead as my drill arm.

Capricorn club with additional range and charge shot modifiers, plus high Ranged stars. Can't remember the exact stats, lost most of my weapons. Capricorn charge speed was about one second long despite being a club because of a smaller projectile, slightly lower range, and no piercing. The charge still packs a massive punch, and is very fast.

I never was abig fan of the Capricorn Club; Black and Babel are my favorites. Also, I got this: Babel Club 3R/3M +4 Overall Defense +5 Health +1 Poison This thing is doing wonders for me.

He even plays this, too!
I'm really not a fan of clubs, but I like Black Club, since it looks pretty simple and cool. I just don't really like the designs of the rest that much, except maybe the Aurum one. Magnus Club is too typical-giant-buster. I got a Skyscraper club that does around 460 with the forward charge shot, though.

...I forgot about Earthmaul, that's my favorite club.
Mentioning of which...this is in the store.
Earthmaul Club Value: 337 (highest possible value if I recall.)
3R / 4.5M Shot Defense +1 Status Resistance +1 Knockback Defense +3 Freezing +2 Speed +2 Forward-Dash ch. Shot +4
Cost? 140,400 Hearts. I have 112,000.
...eh, it's not that amazing really.
EDIT: This is my Together Mode set for now.
Tiger Claws Value: 258
3R / 3M
Weakening+4 Speed+4
I preferred my Viridis (need to get to chapter 22, I'm on 12.) but these are great.

Values can inch higher, it's just as difficult as playing Magicka by yourself. I've had 340 - Nintendo even released a 340 value Staff via spotpass - and I've heard a report of 341 and 342. Of course, at that point, the game is struggling against you, trying to keep the value lower than that. You need. . . very SPECIFIC combinations of Modifiers, Stars, and raw value to even get near that. The game will TRY to be lower than those values, but if it cannot find a "Legal" combination below those values, it will give in. The Gamefaqs board had some great research going into this at one point, but it's been a long while since I've visited. I expect the place to be the 3DS SSBB board by now.
Oh, wait, pulled up my only remaining weapon from the "Debacle". . .
Capricorn Club
Ranged 6 (As heavy weapons guy says. . . "POW! Haha!") Melee 1.4 (Waste of points)
OD +3 (Thank you) Confusion +3 (On the miracle that the target survives, they may be more than just confused at my firepower) Running Speed +1 (Don't care. I suppose it helps with my massive lack of speed and stamina - I'm practically just a turret.) Standing Ch. Shot +4 (I can see your face from here. . . Oh, wait, no I can't.) In-peril Autododge +1 (I can survive at low damage, but I suppose this is helpful.)
It's a few hundred damage per second, at quite the range. Of course, most players are smart enough to be able to dodge it by now, but that's if I'm their only opponent. Teamwork still let's me bring the slamdown, no matter how vulnerable. . . except I'm not necessarily invincible myself, esepecially being that I'm so slow with it. I mean really, I almost don't even have any stamina.
I also had some good weapons, a Tiger Claws with +4 speed and standing rapid fire, +3 to hearts which was great for speedgrinding. Valued at 314 IIRC. A very balanced, almost defensive Gaol Blade. A Phosphora bow - Oh lord I spent so much time crafting that one. . . T_T - With maxed freezing and ranged attack stars, plus some Overall Defense and actual plus range.

Made some nice weapons last night. But there's one amazing one amongst them...
Gaol Blade: 4R / 2.5M / V: 275 Freezing +4 Stamina +3 Melee combo +1
This is so awesome. Probably beats out my very recent Crusader Blade. It's pretty powerful, and freezes quite efficiently with charge shots or continuous dash fire. And once it does, it's usually good game. A free melee combo, which is decently strong along with a tiny +1 buff. If I'm close enough, it's enough for two melee combos. If I'm further, I can close in with a forward charge shot and a melee combo, or just two charge shots... And even without freeze, the stats are good overall, and stamina +3 is great for foxtrotting.
I've been doing a lot of fusion chains, just to weed out crappier mods and make weapons with just a couple of good mods. I'm aiming to make an arm weapon (Crusher, Drill, or Upperdash) with shot range +3, and maybe any sort of good Darkness Bow.
We need to play some time, Verdant. And we need to play again some time, Steve.

I am obsessed with Daybreakers. Also my OHKO Taurus Arm was absurd so I fused it. Now have a +2 Shot Range Somewhat Staff.

... WHY DO I NOT HAVE THIS GAME YET!? I've seen the first three chapters in Chugga's let's play, and I can already tell that the fourth wall got vaporized.

It was fine. Only thing I don't like is anything that needs evasion to be dodged. Taurus is a really specialized weapon anyway. I beat you a few times with my crusader Blade It was funny when we both used Upperdash. And that one time I tried to rocket up onto a ledge, but instead got stuck propelling against the wall with angelic missile, and you had just walked by that edge and went flying into the big pit. I really like that Crusader Blade, though. And my Burning Palm. I think I actually lost the majority of the rounds this time.
