I just realized we're all ignoring the most important question. Do the Pokéballs go up to Gen VI?

If it's anything like Gen 4 with Brawl, then yes.

Logged on to GFF to post this, to see I've been beaten by less than an hour. Since Sonic has been confirmed (didn't think he would simply because he's a third-party character), it's likely some others from the STH franchise may be too. Based on things the director said, wishing to keep the focus of the franchise on nintendo characters, it's doubtful we'll see more than one mascot representing a single company besides nintendo. I imagine there will be a namco character and a konami character (Snake) and then the only new additions will be nintendo characters.

Would much rather see a boktai character than snake as konamis mascot. Heck id take a belmont too. Not that i disliked using snake, i just think konami has all these obscure characters that they could bring into the spot light a but more. Anyways.
My fingers are still crossed for mewtwo. And roy. Or eliwood. Eliwood would work too.
And for say minccino and another pokemon trainer with not gen 1 pokes.
And hrmm..... maybe black bull or whatevs his name is from f zero.
Oh and with megs confirmed id like to see protoman or bass. Zero? Not without x, axl? Kill him off.
Glad toon link is back. Now if he could get a decent wind waker sequel id be super happy.
Hmmm.... paper mario? Not that ninetendo would go for it. And since viewtiful joe is in tatsunoku vs capcom hes out...
Knuckles? Maybe. Id like to see a chaos fight in story mode since sonic is confirmed again.
Perhaps a new character exclusive to smash bros? Thatd be cool.

I'd be suprised if snake even returns, to be honest... Anyways. My fingers are still crossed for mewtwo. And roy. Or eliwood. Eliwood would work too. - Chrom is much more likely. And for say minccino and another pokemon trainer with not gen 1 pokes. - Eh, Pokemon Trainer is eh.And hrmm..... maybe black bull or whatevs his name is from f zero. - Actually a great idea.Oh and with megs confirmed id like to see protoman or bass. Zero? Not without x, axl? Kill him off. - Al's right, we probably won't see multiple characters from the same third-party franchise.Glad toon link is back. Now if he could get a decent wind waker sequel id be super happy. - Spirit Tracks was great.Hmmm.... paper mario? Not that ninetendo would go for it. Id like to see a chaos fight in story mode since sonic is confirmed again. - See above.Perhaps a new character exclusive to smash bros? Thatd be cool. - Even though Smash is a collab of fighters, it would be. I'm just waiting for Bowser Jr.

Idk but if he can play tennis he can brawl also trixie kong. The one from country 2&3 i think. Hair tornado ftw! Id like to see characters from more obscure games make an appearance, because i feel it gives them a chance to advertise. But ive already said that.

^Dixie Kong, and she actually was supposed to be in Brawl. She's part of a group called the "Forbidden seven," as these seven characters' character data was still on the disc.

Serebii has the up to date character list. And stage list apparently.
And general information. Otherwise the official site is prolly way more accurate.

Balance patches confirmed?

Balance patches confirmed? I think they meant they will fix it before release. But due to every other current/next gen console having dlc and updates for games except the wii, i assume they will do that too.

Balance patches confirmed? I hope they don't remove that. Seems like it would make Link more competitively viable.

I don't really get it honestly... Brawl seemed like a perfectly balanced game. Aside from Meta Knight, who isn't even that much better from the rest, I've always felt that I can pick up any character and beat any good player. And I'm saying this as a Link main who used to have a competitive circle online and played every day of my life with pros for a long time. My Link ate Meta Knights for breakfast. His only real downside is his recovery and it's not as bad as some others... He has excellent tools, range, and power.
I'll never get the tiers for Brawl, except for peoples' necessities to group fighting game characters... But Brawl is nothing like a fighter that can be ranked like that, because it's much more based on prediction, reflex, and execution/coordination than a character's stats or overly good moves that can be abused or high damage combos/attacks. Shuttle Loop is probably the only absurd thing in the game.
/rant from someone who gave 1000 hours of his life to Brawl.
As for that new spike, it may not be all that broken really. If the way the attack works is the same as Brawl, going for a spike with that is generally going to be suicide unless the enemy's in the air above the stage's horizon. Trying to spike someone recovering under the stage just means you're going to be stabbing air 'till you die if they avoid it.

Soo... still no confirmation on mewtwo.
Or lucario.
Come one ninetendo?!
Honestly a b&w pokemon trainer would be awesome. Itd have snivy/servine, oshawott/dewott and emboar. Itd be great. Or a ruby/saphire one with mudkip, grovyle and blaziken. Id be really happy with that. Cause id only use mudkip.
Mudkips forevers!
Ahem, also roy?! Or barring that, eliwood! His fs would be horse+durandal. Itd be awesome.
And im surprised they dont just go ahead and confirm capt falcon. Hes been in every smash bros so far, and all the other originals have been confirmed except ness? Idr anywho,
I wonder if they are gonna do things like some characters are 3ds exclusive and some are wii u exclusive. Itd be stupid, but i wouldnt doubt them doing it
Also i wonder if megaman is gonna have a kirby esque ability to take someones sig attack.
Like you ko them and have that attack replace the mega buster or something?

It's not a matter of balance being an issue, it's a matter of trying to make a roster of unique characters as balanced as possible. Also, there is a very noticeable difference between, say, Meta Knight, and Bowser. One tier list prediction that casual players always get right - Bowser is bad. Doesn't stop me from using him.
To be honest, I don't care about ANY other returning fighters. Bowser and Pit have already been confirmed, and that's all I wanted. I'm really just wondering what new characters we get (I still say Chrom > Eilwood.) Still hoping for Viridi/DarkPit/Palutena/Magnus, Bowser Jr, and Ridley.

The very noticeable difference between Bowser and Meta Knight is speed. The way it's meant to be. What sets them apart as bad and good? Bowser is powerful enough to more than make up for it, and he has some attacks with very nice range and power. Meta Knight just has absurd speed and priority in his attacks, so it's a bad comparison but even so, any matchup can go in any direction depending on the players' skill. It's nothing at all like other fighters where there's top tier characters that can shut you down or play keep-away and do huge damage easily.
Bowser is far from bad, or anyone in the roster for that matter. Characters have strengths and weaknesses, and it depends on how you play on them. Bowser outranges Meta Knight, and has a lot of killing potential against a light enemy like that, his fire breath also stops Meta Knight's stupid priority stuff while doing decent damage. Take it from someone who's slayed Meta Knights with Ike. And lost to Bowsers as Pit.

That's only when I use GameCube controllers though. I've gotta get used to classic controller now that my uncle has a wii u. Lol, he gets soooooo mad when I destroy his bowser with jigglypuff. Lol
