Good to know... I was hoping TMNT could make a comeback, but looks like everything's just dying these days. I've also been a fan since I was really young, had all the figures, a lot of the old cartoon VHSs, bunch of games, have all the live-action VHSs and DVDs, watched it on 4kids every Saturday 'till they stopped, played the supee mega ultra obscure x100 Super Smash Turtles competitively...
Well, I love the live action movies. I don't see how they're cruddy, they're some of the best movies ever made. Er... The first one was awkward, okay, but it had nice moments. The second was just amazing, and the third was also good, a sort of in between. "... Ohayo wasabi?"
Anyway, I hoped they'd try to go back to those roots with the style they gad going, but I guess it's just your typical Megan Hog movie with mainstream humor, if that's how another old fan says so...

^In a nutshell, yeah. I shouldn't say the 90s movies are bad, but they're here and there for me. Also, TMNT isn't dead, Nickolodeon has their new TMNT series and for the most part it's actually a very good series. It's had a few episodes that are just plain...wat, and it's not quite as great as the 2000s TMNT (in my opinion) but it's a very good show.

I'm seeing Guardians today, I don't believe plot holes are important (and that the only plot holes that I truly count are the ones of the movie's own internal logic rather than the logic of reality as applied to the movie) and TMNT was inevitably going to be bad, so I'm not watching it. I only ever watched the 2003 cartoon growing up and I was never that into them anyway.
I thought the first Rise of the Planet of the Apes was incredibly muddled and contradictory in what it wanted to get across, and I spent most of the run time cracking jokes, a lot of the characters seemed incredibly stupid and/or underdeveloped to me. How does the second movie compare, or is it just a more polished version of the same movie?
EDIT: Just saw Guardians. Good movie. There's not much to really say about it, it has the appeal of going to a bar and cracking jokes with some mates. It seems like an appeal to people telling them to just get along and stop taking things so seriously, ingeniously it does this by not overtly making the point, instead just spending most of its run time being fun and characterising a mostly one note villain who just seems to hate everything and everyone for no real reason. Internet much?

Batman: Assault on Arkham.
Great movie. Awesome animation. Great ending. Hardly had Batman.
I'd say an 8/10. A must see for any DC Comics fan.

Gone Girl. David Fincher makes good movies.
Speaking of Fincher, Fight Club and the Social Network are also excellent. Fight Club in particular is so finely crafted.
Not-Speaking of Ghibli, The Wind Rises turned me into a blubbering fish. Simply amazing. I find that Ghibli and Hosoada (Wolf Children is so damn good) films absorb and immerse me on a level that no film, anime, or even game has ever been able to, time simply stops, and it feels like the movie will never end. I can't praise them enough. I 'met' him late, but I'm really going to miss Miyazaki.

Batman V Superman. 10/10. The story was complete, setting up for several other heroes, and even the Justice League movie. The visuals were pleasing. The action scenes were incredible. One character has a smaller role than I would've liked, but it is Batman V Superman, not Justice League. This character's role expanded around the end, which was very exciting to see. Lex's character was a new take than what I was used to, yet was still done brilliantly by Jesse Eisenberg. Ben Affleck did a fantastic job as the new Batman. Gal Gadot fits the mantle of Wonder Woman perfectly. Overall, I'd give the movie a 10/10. Would recommend. Would see again. Would bang.
Copied and pasted my review I posted on FB.

*Me entering this thread* "Oh, Riku posted here. Gee, I wonder what movie he's recommending." I question the bit about story, but I'll see that when I watch it myself I guess.

I've heard... completely the opposite, from multiple sources, but fair enough. Not really something I'm interested in seeing- I didn't like Man of Steel and this movie simply seems to be amplifying and focusing on all the things I didn't really like about that film.

So just saw Kimi no Na wa. (Your Name.) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Had the same sort of charming feel as Summer Wars or Girl Who Leapt Through Time. It's screening in theaters now so watch some good anime and help support the industry. And as always, don't get caught up in the hype.
Speaking of anime movies, guess I'll mention the Ghost in the Shell live action movie. It's alright. Forget for a moment that it's a GitS adaptation and you've got a solid Hollywood action thriller in a futuristic cyber setting, but it's hard to ignore when about a third of the movie's scenes are lifted straight out of the Ghost in the Shell 1995 movie. I enjoyed it, but it's probably not worth watching in theaters... Or at all if you liked the philosophy part of GitS, because it throws that out the window. Or if you're not a fan of yet another generic action thriller.
TL;DR watch Your Name, not Ghost in the Shell 2017.
Or watch the Ghost in the Shell anime, that's good too.
