Too mean spirited to be fun, not really violent or well told enough to be the solid shlock thriller Future Diary was. It's main appeal is basically like that of watching a train wreck, if you ask me. It has good bits, but the most enjoyment out of it is when I get to exclaim 'wait, she got pregnant HOW!?"
Will definitely have to catch up on Academia though, I've been hearing a ton of good things about it. Too bad it's not on Crunchyroll.

I like Big Order T_T. It's stupid entertaining bullshit, it's basically Jojo if it was written by Future Diary guy, how can you not like that? MHA is actually one of the best Shonen i've ever read and the anime is a really good adaption. Give it a chance if you haven't already, it's probably worth it. You can like it, it's just a bad show.

Kiznaiver! Or rather, Al and I just finished it. Would definitely recommend it. We had a great time watching it and it's a very heartwarming show.

Oh, man. If anyone else is still watching Ace Attorney, you need to see Episode 13 if you haven't already. It's hands down the best episode of the series

^That's the anime original episode right? I really enjoyed that one too. Maybe it's because they weren't restricted to following the game, or maybe it's just because I didn't have a game to compare it to.

Yeah, that's the one I was talking about It was nice because they could go at their own pace instead of trying to stuff tons of content in. I think I was actually squealing out loud for some of it, mostly at baby-Edgetsundere moments :3 Starting Erased. Well ... that was certainly a first episode

So I decided to watch the first 3 episodes of Re:Zero (the first of which is 40 minutes) today, because I was curious about what had gotten everyone so hyped since last season. I didn't bother watching it when it came out, because it got poor initial reviews from people I trust and it just looked like another one of those popular shows in the same vein as SAO and AOT that I simply don't like.
Turns out I'm quite enjoying the show- it has its odd moments of bad dialogue and poor jokes, but it's otherwise crafted so very well that I can't help but really enjoy it. The animation, pacing, music, and overall structure keeps things pretty engaging. Subaru is likeable goofball, but he's good natured guy who has more personality than most anime protagonists, and he has good banter with the other characters. It has good narrative hooks, has plenty of attention to detail, and it uses the groundhog day premise to always show events from a different perspective, provide Subaru and the viewer more information, and allow things to play out very differently- it really sells the fear someone would feel if they really could revive themselves after dying like in a video game. Subaru has read enough manga to be self aware about his situation, but living through it is another thing entirely.
It may get worse in the long run, but the main reason I decided to check it out is because recent episodes have been impressing people. For now, I'm looking forward to watching more. Haven't really enjoyed a straightforward fantasy show in a while.

HOW WAS THE TRUE QUALITY OF RE:ZERO HIDDEN FROM ME FOR 20 STRAIGHT WEEKS!
THIS SHOW IS SUPER GOOD. Episode 18 wrecked me, and it wasn't the only time this show has left my jaw dropped. There have been some sequences that have been difficult to watch that didn't feel earned or necessary. There's so much to unpack in this show that I'll have to write an article once it's fully finished just to fully contextualise what I've been experiencing.
Best show of 2016 (I'd have to check to see if there's anything I missed) highly recommended. Even in the highly unlikely event that the last few episodes somehow drop the ball, what's currently there is worth it on its own.

Decided to binge watch what's out so far of both the despair and future arcs of the Dangan Ronpa 3 anime.
I can't believe I didn't watch this sooner, because it's amazing and possibly the best entry in the franchise to date. Obviously the games with their distinct style and gameplay will always be classics, but the anime is tying things together so well and absolutely nailing everything that makes the franchise so great. The future arc is this depressing but exciting battle royale that takes advantage of being an anime, as opposed to being constrained by the limitations of having to adapt what was originally a game. It's fantastic to see the characters again not only because they're loveable and funny, but because they're getting some serious development this time around. The new characters are all pretty damn good too.
The despair arc is also the perfect prequel it needed. It starts out as more of a zany comedy staring the DR2 cast, and it's great seeing them all again, Komaeda especially is always a delight and gets a fantastic episode centred on him. Seeing the despair sisters finally able to interact properly as they set up the events of the entire franchise is also amazing since we see so little of them in the actual games, and they're so much better here now that they have room to breathe. They more than make up for the fact that Monokuma himself is barely featured in either arc.
So good. I'm sad that this particular arc to the series is ending, but I'm really excited to see what they're going to do in the next DR video game and the franchise as a whole. I'm actually really glad we got these two animes to finish off the story instead of a third game. And they're still making more DR games anyway! What a time to be alive.

Been watching this cartoon series from the 90s that I've never heard of called "Bump in the Night." It's a clay-mation that looks WAY ahead of it's time. I feel like I shouldn't like it so much, but I can't stop watching it

Currently I'm just watching a variety of anime, or at least I like to act I am. Haven't legitimately watched anything in a while though, been to occupied with playing Persona 5.

This season has a lot of good shows airing.
Flip Flappers is super fun and reminds me of an old Gainax show in style, its main strengths are in its animation, direction, and animation, and it has really good visual storytelling on an emotional level too.
Izetta: The Last Witch has been a pretty good war thriller. Authentic feeling not-WW2 but there's a cute and clumsy witch fighting off the 'Germanians' with magic while riding a machine gun like a wooden broom is fun, but it's well structured and well made and its lead characters are really engaging.
March Comes in Like a Lion is also stunningly well directed (seems to be a theme this season) with some really fantastic sequences. There's some massive tonal dissonance between the melancholic parts (which thankfully make up the most of the show) and the silly humour, but I think this may be one of the best shows of the season so far.
Girlish Number is ok. Shirobako as written by the Oregairu author sounds good and it is, but I'm not liking it quite as much so far. The lead is great but I'm not really finding it particularly funny or particularly engaging otherwise.

Anyone know if that magical girl battle royale show is worth watching?

I've only seen the first two episodes. I thought it was ok. Didn't think there was anything special about it, but it wasn't horribly mean spirited or stupid either. It's one of those shows that tries to obscure its nature from you though because Madoka, so I can't really say anything more past that.
I'd recommend other shows more this season. Like Flip Flappers. It's a magical girl show that I'm personally liking. Has an episode 3 that reminded me of early Gainax/Trigger.

I just finished watching Ajin on Netflix.
Is....is that really the end? Is there more??? WHY MUST THINGS END ON CLIFFHANGERS?!?!?!
Still a pretty good show. T'was an interesting concept. Hate the main character (in a good sort of way, if that makes sense), like the story, unique animation style (3-D anime). Overall, it was pretty neat.
