One day in history class, my teacher was lecturing on European culture, specifically British culture.
"Class, do you remember the movie 'Titanic?'"
The class nodded.
"There was a scene where the captain of the ship committed suicide. However, do you remember what he said to his crew before he shot himself?"
The class looked around at each other. Nobody knew.
"He said: 'Be British.' Do any of you know what that means?"
The class sat in silence, implying that nobody knew.
"It means that you must give the women and children priority over the men. The men must be gentlemen and let the women and children get to safety before being concerned about their own. That is British culture."
The class sat in silence, absorbing the chivalrous nature of the British.
"I mean, can you imagine that scene in a different light....?"
The great vessel was taking on water while its passengers were in sheer panic. It wouldn't be long until the Titanic sank into the cold, dark ocean. The captain also lost hope, and stood up with a handgun pointed at his temple. He turned to one of his crew members and, with his last breath, he uttered the words:
"Be American."
*BOOM*
