What are your top 10 musical themes from anything anywhere? I'm going to post mine, but I'd also be interested to see yours. Some rules I'm using for myself and rules I recommend you use to. 1) One song per franchise/artist/anime show. Otherwise my list would be entirely Persona+ Gurren Lagann. 2) A brief description of why you like it? 3) If from anime or game, only from those you've played/watched, that way you can narrow down your choices and you know how it's used. 4) Remixes count, I'll be using them.
List:
10) Its a damn good song and a departure from the mario normal. Shame the final boss where this is played SUCKED.
9) I would have given this spot to Solaris phase 2... but I've never played sonic O6. The battle against metal sonic is awesome, and the song is a pun on the fact that metal sonic is made of metal.
8) I love this song. Its a remix of the main theme, and played while fighting Ache in tales of the abyss. For a battle to the death to decide who is the real Luke, a quite dark set up that most of the game has built up for, its a really... oddly upbeat way to end their rivalry. Excellent.
7) Every battle with Vanitas, the theme slows down but somehow becomes more epic... until finally the final boss roles around and this time you can tell Vanitas means business. The battle was brutally difficult, which fits the imposing theme, but it's also so satisfying. You also know the consequences of beating Vanitas, Ventus' heart shattering...
6) It just fits the desperation against Asura perfectly towards the end of Soul Eater.
5) Out of everything from Xenoblade, its really tough to pick out one theme... Even though this is played once, maybe twice, in the most underserving of situations, I think this captures the entirety of the game perfectly- finishing the unfinished battle between giants.
4) Need I say anymore? (note, haven't played continum shift, but I still think I love this. Captures Blaz Blue perfectly)
3) A missed opportunity, really, this song was epic, played awesomely... but when you look at the game after completing it, you realise that it could have been used to an even BETTER effect, which is why it's so low. Played during a satisfying battle of revenge. On second play throughs... you realise that Ereamon wasn't really too bad, which seems to be what the song is about, Nia singing to calm down... I think.
2) I hate the rap genre. I dislike the opera genre. But this song combines both... and makes a master piece. The rap 'ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWER!' Is the spiral/Kamina's influence, the idea of the spiral way of life put in words, 'touch the untouchable break the unbreakable' etc. This is played when a few times at the end of the series when the characters are being EPIC BEYOND BELEIF. Still gives me shivers just listening to it. But theres also the opera, 'Libra me' which is a real roman catholic song. Its about judgement and praying to god on armageddon. It shows that stuffs going down, obviously, and also it's how a normal person would feel in the face of the anti spirals- shivering in fear. In this sense, the character's are feeling scared but the spiral instinct and Kamina is telling them to fight on. Marvelous.
1) I love this remix. It's the boss theme made better from persona 4. I mean, theres so many enemies in fiction- but persona 4 gets right down to the routes and places YOURSELF as the true enemy we have to face in real life- our insecurities and such. The piano rift plays in some of the social link scenes, where the characters, despite not having direct shadows, are facing themselves more realistically. Furthermore, the violin is beautiful despite the sinister techno undertone, not too dissimilar to the mind, beautiful and sinister. A master piece and my favorite song ever.

Geez, that M&L song sounds like Touhou or something. And it's pretty cool to hear that Sonic Heroes song again, don't remember the last time I heard it, but it's awesome.
This is one of the most triumphant/exciting themes I've ever heard. Imagine it playing while holding down a fortress from a massive monster.

I'm only doing top 5. Here they are!
5)
Oh my, top 5 starts with a wonderful tune. You beat Ghestis and his annoying drum music, and you hear this....WHAT!? this is POKEMON MUSIC!? Indeed, and probably my favorite, while you only hear it for a minute or two...this BGM is touching and beautiful. This would be #3 if two remixes hadn't wormed their way in.
4)
Pilotwings music...it's mostly unremarkable. That being said, this song is BEAUTIFUL. Play glider mode on sunset? Yeah. All I do on this game anymore. This ONE TRACK and the glider itself are what keep me playing this game.
3)
I loved this song to begin with, originally being 10 when I started this post. But as I was looking for this, I found this orchestrated version...yeah, it soared up to 3. I'm a sucker for orchestrated music.
2)
Screw it, I've watched a Persona 4 lp, I'M INCLUDING THIS. ...not much I can say that Al didn't, but two people can't be wrong when saying this is amazing. Of course, two reasons its #2. It's a remix. The actual version isnt this amazing. The actual version would probly be #9 for me. The piano rift is the best part.
1)
Oh yes. This definetly deserves #1. The second you hear that beginning part..."yep, this is it." The battle itself combines EVERY previous final boss in Kirby history, slaps the most EPIC music I've ever heard on it, and adds the badass super abilities into the fight. Yeah, now THAT is epic. All in all, this is amazing, and not even a remix! Worthy of #1.

Good choices, interested at number 5, as N leaving was kind of sad. I obviously love you for number two, never played pilot wings and dragon rost island grows on me. Number one wont load up but I think I've heard it before, and it was pretty good as I recall.
Black and White had an excellent soundtrack, and I adore this. Think of it as number 11 on my list.
This is also the song that plays almost immediately after N leaves and pokemon credits themes are normally upbeat, but this is heroic because you actually did something that felt worthwhile in this game as opposed to stopping a comic relief group of villans then becoming the champion. Black and white makes you feel like your up against pure evil when fighting Ghetsis and team plasma who had a good purpose with a misguided 'leader' in N a selfish puppet master behind it all. Basically, this song is saying: 'So black and white ended. I dare you to say pokemon games cant have good stories and be epic.'

The music has the makings of a great song but it doesn't really stick with me for some odd reason... probably because I haven't actually played return to dreamland, being the terrible person I am. I respect it as a number 1, but it simply doesn't sit with me.

Wow. That track from Xenoblade is beautiful. (been swaying on the fence on whether I should get it or not. I don't think I will, but I might get the OST xD)
These here probably aren't my favorite, but they come to mind pretty quickly:
Musical Castle (Part 3) Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon Konami
Most songs from this game have multiple remixes (the deeper you get into a dungeon, the more pressing the music becomes), and I really liked the third part of Musical Castle : D
----------------------------------------------------------
Main Menu Sin and Punishment: Star Successor Norio Hanzawa
Fast paced and fitting for a game like this. Pretty epic for a main menu song lol.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Edge of Green Radiant Historia Yoko Shimomura
Great battle track.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorairo Days TTGL
I couldn't find a good video that did it justice on Youtube for some reason. They're either bad quality or are different (I stopped listening to them if they messed up the weird, wheeeooow sound in the beginning). Youtube probably took them all off, but I'm sure you guys know this song lol. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
Colors Code Geass Flow
Pretty catchy.

^ yeah, it's awesome. I normally don't listen to music with female leads, but this is just...so...right! It topped my playcount a LOOONG time ago, and it'll probably stay up there till my iPod crashes again lol.

Top 10. Here's the full list, finally! Honorable Mentions: Oh my. My 2nd favorite video game music out there. So why is it in the honorable mentions? ...because a remix took #1...and it's kirby. Still definetly my favorite non-remixed VGM out there. Hello Sonic. Your music never was that good, but you had a couple themes that stood out. Sonic generations made a few better. Namely, this one. While it may not have the sheer epicness of Solaris...IT'S SO CATCHY! I have fought this boss on Sonic generations HUNDREDS of times so I can listen to this! Seriously, I love it. Grape Garden Kirby's return to dreamland. You brought so many great remixes, and new themes alike. I could post at least 20 more VGMs from that game for honorable mentions. They'd cover my entire list, 1-10. 10) Say hello to one of the two themes I loved from this game! I get to hear this one FREQUENTLY considering how oftern I play online. I flat out love this song. It's so calm, serious, and epic at the same time. It's one of those things that make you love a game even more. 9) Omai. This theme is great. Not Code Geass great, but great. The song slowly builds up to this amazing climax, it's just an amazing theme. Shame how bad the actual anime ended up though. 8) It was a hard descision, this or colors? But I chose this. Both are very amazing. The opening theme before this was too, but it's just not as good. This theme simply screams epicness, and really shows how amazing everything about this anime is. ...except for the other two openings. Please no. ...I was already planning an all nighter tonight. Now I know what to do! Watch Code Geass from the start! 7) Sorry Al, I'm breaking the rule just for this. Solaris. Hello. Most people say your theme was the only good part about Sonic 06. I loved your game, all of its glitches were fun, and Omega's game breaking hover mechanics. (Omega can change his voice to sound like Shadow! ) Anyway, another epic, amazing theme. 6) Screw it, I've watched a Persona 4 lp, I'M INCLUDING THIS. ...not much I can say that Al didn't, but two people can't be wrong when saying this is amazing. Of course, two reasons its #6. It's a remix. The actual version isnt this amazing. The actual version would probly be...not on the list for me. The piano rift is the best part, and that's very brief. This has gone down a lot. 5) Oh my, top 5 starts with a wonderful tune. You beat Ghestis and his annoying drum music, and you hear this....WHAT!? this is POKEMON MUSIC!? Indeed, and probably my favorite, while you only hear it for a minute or two...this BGM is touching and beautiful. This would be #4 if a remix hadn't wormed its way in. This stays as my #5. 4) Pilotwings music...it's mostly unremarkable. That being said, this song is BEAUTIFUL. Play glider mode on sunset? Yeah. All I do on this game anymore. This ONE TRACK and the glider itself are what keep me playing this game. 3) I loved this song to begin with, originally being 10 when I started this post. But as I was looking for this, I found this orchestrated version...yeah, it soared up to 3. I'm a sucker for orchestrated music. 2) NOTE: LOOPHOLE! This is Smash Bros, not Kirby! ;D Say hello to the music I listen to every night as I go to bed. No, seriously, I have a SSBM orchestra live CD (got it from my awesome cousin.) and I set my CD player to repeat 1 and this song. It just screams epicness. This is my favorite stage in Melee too! (should've been in brawl over crappy green greens.) 1) ...so my old #1 got ousted. Completely off the list. Why? I think Al knows why. www.youtuberepeat.com/watch/?v=mrCFW7-ypKI&feature=player_embeddedBig suprise. Remix of 02. It's simply too amazing, I can't deny that, thus why it's #1. And that's it!

I'm going to make my top 10 anime opening list. One per franchise. As well as the actual song I will note it's relevance to the show. The visuals will be a very minor part. I may use songs from anime style games. Because their that awesome, and they have/ are getting their own anime anyway. 10) It's a good opening, really, just listen. It's lyrics are technically relevant although I didn't see it at first, but I stick it here because I dont like the actual anime, I like other songs better here, and the lyrics seem to focus on Merry to much. While that may sound obvious considering she's the main character I really dont like Merry as a character. This opening holds up on it's own merits. 9) Boy I hated this anime.... but it's opening is really cool. I'm about 99% sure that the vocals are the same as as the ones used in the excellent code geass endings, they sound really similar too, so probably even the same bands, this is simply a joy to listen to. Quite tense and awesome, considering this is horror. ... but the anime sucked, and the visuals are rather boring. Another opening that can only stand up on it's own merits and doesn't really quite fit with the anime. 8) I looooooooved persona 4 the animation (and the games.) So awesome and the lyrics are also really relevant. And Engrish! 7) I. Love. DEATH NOTE. It's simply so cool! The openings leave much to be desired but I'll always love this opening less for the actual song but for the relevance of the lyrics (when translated) and the incredibly symbolic imagery. Likely my favorite opening ever in terms of visuals, the use of red and blue (Light VS L) used throughout the show, the symbolism involving the apple and sin (biblical!) the showcase of all the characters and of course the timing, like at the end when Light is simply standing there in front of wings, looking like an angel of justice. FU**! But yeah, I'm not as fond of the actual song. 6) As always, it is really hard to pick between this and the 5th opening. The 5th opening might be the better song on it's own merits, BUT...! I think that this one is more relevant and has left more of an impact. It's upbeat tone just shows Lelouch's resolve and hope, with his power, he can change the world, and the song's lyrics represents that. The 5th opening is also upbeat but I remember it making much sense because of whats going on in the plot at that time. Also, I'm sorry I'm saying the lyrics are really relevant when theres no subs, so it's meaningless to some, but just trust me that when you actually read the translated lyrics you'll see what I'm talking about. 5) So... much... NOSTALGIA! I get a kick out of hearing this. It's so badass, everything about it! All the characters look really cool, every relevant character is given a moment in the spotlight and the lyrics are, of course, relevant. But ahhhh, the nostalgia. Also, I think based on data I've been collecting, Soul Eater is technically the best anime ever. Not my favorite, but the best because everyone I know who has seen this loves it. Well. 4) I love this song, quite long for an opening, in English (Engrish?) shows all the characters and is really relevant to the game, and the end gives me shivers. Basically my favorite tales opening (Not that there was much competition...) But yeah, not much I can say other than play this game! 3) *Drops dead with excitement* This song gives me spasms and shivers of pure delight when I hear it. Is it the pure, silly awesomeness? The fantastic pacing? Awesome visuals? The way that even though it's the same opening, adapts based on events in the anime? (such as replacing Kamina's scenes with Nia which I admit made me die inside a little. (not that I dont like Nia)) or the fact that the lyrics pretty much sum up the show in a nutshell? Or maybe the way it was used as a power up song during the final battle in the last episode that made me quite happy to die there and then, at that moment? Excuse me while I go calm down, the fangasims are strong with this one... anyway Gurren Lagann had many flaws when you start thinking of it rationally a few months down the line after the initial WOOOOOO, but I still loved it and this song! 2) I LOVE THIS SONG! *squeal!* The lyrics are actually related to the game, perhaps tangentially, although the game it's self is quite convoluted anyway. It shows all the characters fighting their rivals, and actually has a LOT of spoilers if you pay attention (then again this was a game that came out after the original continumm shift, so they expect you to know the story) and if you take another look at the visuals... towards the end... I wasn't drooling! 1) This isn't fast paced, particularly blood pumpingly awesome like, say, Sora Iro days, it's just... Jaw dropping. It gives me shivers, combined with the series it makes me cry tears of... just... wow... the song, called rain, it's raining to hide the fact that everyone is crying in the opening, the relevant homunculi, the protagonists, everyone relevant for the show's final act on the day of reckoning is shown, the despair just oozes from this, and the rain represents how everyone needs, or wants to hide their despair, and only father, a misunderstood but undeniable monster, doesn't cry- the despair he's caused everyone, shown in this opening. It's a song of judgment, mainly of Ed's perspective, showing that even though he's at his limit right now and in the depths of despair he's still hopeful that hopefully the rain will stop and he'll be able to allow his emotions to flow forth, and his mother reaching out to him, looking like an Angel and Winry watching him sleep... This opening. This anime. I love you fullmetal alchemist. Honorable mention. My 'number 11' if you will that I really wanted to add but couldn't fit in. Professer Layton and the unwound future made me cry so much at the end... it's a master piece and my expectations for the series, which at face value looked like something TOO casual for me to enjoy, was so awesome. My expectations were blown by the curious village, set higher by pandora's box, and completely and utterly shattered, past the limit of how I already thought the series could get, by the unwound future. This theme is so sad, so fitting, but without lyrics and visuals to go with it (although it's better without lyrics, clearly) it cannot really make it's way onto my list. Maybe another time...

Top 5 anime openings:
5) While there were so many things this anime screwed up, I love this theme to death. (Not the actual opening due to the massive ecchi even in the opening.) Only series with more ecchi than this to my knowledge is Kanokon, which is borderline hentai…it basically is.
4) Why did I have to watch the best animes all at once? (save for Black Cat.) The nostalgia factor for this anime is insane for me. It was such a good anime, it was humorous, I have yet to find a single character in this anime I dislike. And while Black paper moon has grown on me, this is my favorite of the two openings.
3) This one was definetly a rough descision. The other opening is really great too, but this one has a more relevant message, and I like it a bit more. Fanservice aside, this was a great anime. Well…I thought it was. But be wary of episode 7 in both seasons if you watch it. For some reason, lots of animes seem to like the number 7 for putting in filler episodes. Soul eater just had this filler episode there after fighting medusa where soul had to heal…dream eater merry had that random beach episode where the poet rips off Yui’s bra…. Seikon no Qwaser had that unimportant qwaser added and skinny dipping in the river…season 1 of this had the episode where everyone’s panties keep getting stolen…season two had that freakin neurois bug that for some inexplicable reason likes hiding in a bunch of loli’s panties….and they get a bath…et cetera….Eila mumble mumble Sanya mumble mumbe and gets whapped upside the head for it….mmk, I’ve proven my point. Fanservicey anime has fanservice. This season toned it down from the previous one though. Aside from episode 7. I now hate episode 7s. they are filler. Rant rant rant rantity rant.
2) This was my number one for…ever since I watched this Anime. Flow is amazing (they’re the ones who did openings 1 and 5.) As for message? I don’t care! If it sounds high enough I’ll make it number one! Which is what my #1 is…sound.
1) Yeah, wasn’t seeing this coming were you? Despite how much I thought the series was crappy, this was just so insanely amazing. Not only does it sound f**king awesome, it captures Yuno’s insanity perfectly. Definetly my favorite opening ever. …I think I’m slowly becoming a sadist.

She's one of my favourite anime villains simply for being... simply for being Yuno. The bitch. Strange how some of my favourite characters recently are the completely psychotic and evil...

^ Well, it's difficult to say for me really. I still think she's great, and I like how she comes to the sudden realisation of her insanity at the end... Minnene was great, but only really because they decided to flesh her out... if the other diary owners had been fleshed out as much, you know, like 7th. (Love those two!) Then this series would have been a heck of a lot better.
To stay on topic... sometime tomorrow, my top 10 boss music themes!
