Decided to go for final battle themes because I was digging up a lot of old songs. Oh well. Some of them aren't QUITE the final battle however they might as well be, the actual final battle being more an epilogue than anything else, or they might be the final bosses' first form as opposed to last. Let's get started.
10) Skies of Arcadia- final battle
Love this game to bits, was my favourite RPG until persona. I didn't appreciate this song until I played it through a few times... it's a balanced song between Ramirez who has essentially already lost and is really only trying to get his revenge on you and the world, and of course the party. As is the case with skies of arcadia music the theme gets dark when Ramirez is winning and really upbeat and cheerful when your winning. During the final battle this adds to a feeling of balance, like an epic and balanced duel rather than the theme being designed to inflict you with despair.
9) The final showdown- tales of vesperia
Duke was a pretty damn good villain... but mainly he was really powerful and incredibly difficult. And this is only his second out of three forms! Yikes. Good thing the third is optional. Either way just listen to that chorus and that main rift... a masterpiece.
8) Endless Despair- BlazBlue
It's difficult to find a boss theme in BlazBlue considering very few characters and thus themes can be considered bosses.
Mu's theme or awakening the chaos are also really, really good, but considering I've been listening to this so much while Hazama kicks my sorry ass this has grown on me more.
Also, here is a really, REALLY nifty vocal version.
7) Champion of destruction- super paper mario
Most people wanting to put a mario theme here might put something from mario galaxy, or the ultimate show from the same game as this- but I put this here mainly because I like count bleck more. The theme is also more intiidating, I love the rift more, it feels incredibly climactic- pretty amazing really.
6) The last story- the one ruling everything
Wont spoil anything here... but basically this fight was really damn awesome and still caught me off guard while paradoxically being expected, as in I didn't expect the final boss to be the actual final boss. Not to mention this is completely different to anything else heard up until this point in the game, except maybe dance of death.
5) Solaris- sonic O6
I haven't played this game, likely for a very good reason. This theme is that good, that it can skip up my list like that in the blink of an eye.
4) Xion- final battle- kingdom hearts 358/2
Here we go. It doesn't get much better than this. I guess this one affects me more than Vanitas, and fits better as a boss theme... since this was my first kingdom hearts game, fighting Xion was something new to me, fighting your friends is common in kingdom hearts but Xion's story really is a massive bummer overall. Even bigger bummer for Roxas- there be no true winners in the kingdom hearts universe. Except for square enix and disney the greedy fu-
3) Rising sun- Okami
I'm trying desperately hard to not tread over old ground here by going back to themes from games I played a while ago.
After a long gruelling fight with Yami in which you've had to fight without brush techniques and reach the cusp of beating him, he steals all your powers again, all seems lost until the prayers of everyone you've met restore your god hood. After which this theme plays and it's incredibly satisfying to draw the sun and beat the crap out of the lord of darkness and everything evil.
2) Zanza- xenoblade
HOLY BISCUITS. A GODLY THEME FOR A GODLY... WELL, GOD! In all seriousness this fits Zanza so well it's scary. I suppose thats why they decided to name this 'zanza'. The true final boss theme after this doesn't quite wow me as much.
1) The battle for everyone's souls- persona 3.
Oh geez. This was my first exposure to persona, this video and this song. It's fantastic. I wonder how many times I've gone over the symbolism in this song, this fight this whole damn game- it's the song you here on judgement day, the end of your life, staring him right in the eyes and telling him that you may die but you sure as hell wont let the world die. The vocals- heard in the velvet room throughout the game, the velvet room being the place where you hone the powers your friends have given you, the piano emphasising the hopelessness, everything in this song and this fight is perfect... until Nyx charms a party member and fully heals himself. Ragequit.
