In the Direct video, Sakurai stated that the idea is straight out of Kirby Air Ride. It's going to be so fun playing it online... I wonder if the Wii U will have its own special multiplayer mode.

Much as it seems interesting - I did spend the most time on City Trial after all - I'm worried that it will have the same flaw of heavily favoring the fast characters who can simply sprint everywhere, securing their lead with powerup after powerup.
Then again, it was kind of hard to care when the computers would all run into a bomb they just threw and lose half their powerups anyways.

Kirby AirRide was one of my favorite games, mainly because City Trial was one of the few fun co-op games on the Gamecube. Also FLYING HOVERBOARDS. Just finished watching NintendoDirect, and I must say I'm really excited for this incarnation of Smash! With the rumors of hitstun times increasing slightly, and a cast that includes both Mega Man, Greninja, ANA Mega Char(X)zard, I have high hopes this coming winter And form changing being tossed out makes me so happy, since now each character no longer lags the game with his/her/its transformation sequence. Also Zelda's new move gives me hope that she'll be as good as Sheik this time! One interesting thing would be that with the new controller, most everyone will be at *sort of* the same level. I no longer feel bad about losing my technical skills from Melee XD

Look at Mr. Electronics Wizard over here using a Gamecube controller on the Nintendo 64. I kid, I kid. Seriously though, the Wii U controller looks pretty nice, if not a bit on the bulky size. I just hope if they incorporate the touch screen into gameplay that it's not some gimmick that makes the game harder to play.

Not sure what the touch screen could do. Maybe an alternative to the c-stick?

I play smash 64 on the virtual console, so I can use a GCN controller for it too.

So Ike was revealed for this game, looking similar to his appearance in radiant dawn.
I'm glad an Awakening character didn't take Ike's place.

So anyone heard of the Gematsu leak? It's actually pretty old now. But anyway, supposedly a fairly reliable source (who foretold Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, Mega Man, Little Mac, and a 'Pokemon from XY') had leaked some of the roster... There's still a lot of controversy... But the supposed upcoming characters are Chrom, Palutena, Chorus Boys (from Rhythm Heaven ), Pac-Man, and Mii... ... And Shulk?!?! That's some pretty dang weird additions... The roster already has taken a lot if liberty, but Smash is really becoming something bigger if that turns out to be true. If Shulk makes the cut, that's pretty exciting... Pit will have some real competition. Well, I wouldn't get my hopes up yet. But E3 is coming soon, I wonder if they will unveil the world then...

Yeah, those all seem too ridiculous to me, especially since Sakurai said that he didn't want the roster to be too large.
I'm also really against Chrom joining in instead of a better Awakening character. There is nothing he can bring to the game, I mean heck both he and Marth wield the same sword, and he was always the most worthless Lord in terms of story, as far as I'm concerned. Even in terms of gameplay, you were forced to use him and for the most part he was overshadowed by most of the cast, especially the player created character.
Shulk would be great, but he has a ton of gimmicks to his fighting style that wouldn't work as well in a fighting game, I don't think.
Otherwise, I don't care for the rest of this list Although Palutena seems like the most likely addition, because Sakurai.

If your theory about Sakurai favoring his franchises was true, we'd have far more than 2 kirby characters announced. (And not as many from Pokemon and Mario) I'd say we'll probably see another rep from Kid Icarus, but not for that reason. (lol that reminds me how much of a troll Sakurai is with the Pseudo Palutena, Ridley's shadow, etc.) Last, just because you don't like Chrom doesn't mean he won't show up. Unfortunately for you, from what I've seen a lot of people do like him.

Yeah I know, just my thoughts. I just don't like qualifying everything with 'in my opinion' because it wastes time and should be self evident. I wont throw a hissy fit if Chrom joins, after all more fire emblem representation is good and he wont be replacing Ike, but I'd simply prefer the MU or even Lucina over Chrom. Palutena and the reason she might join is just a mostly baseless guess, I'll be really surprised if I see her here to be honest. Just about any of those characters joining would surprise me.

Palutena's the only one that actually seems likely. The game has showed her fight; despite being a goddess she's not overpowered or needs scaling, she's been involved in smash before, is from a series with a growing fanbase and is really the best and most likely representative avaliable (Dark Pit will probably be an alternate costume as he can literally be identical to Pit with different voice clips, and the rest are just too strong, require massive scaling or have no moveset options from the game.) However, anything's possible; Captain Falcon had no moveset options either.

Yeah, Uprising shows that she actually has a lot more move set options then characters like Captain Falcon, I'd think she would actually be a solid addition. If more Kid Icarus characters join, maybe they'll be some more interest for an Uprising sequel, too.

So this exists now. Official GC controller adaptor for the WiiU: i.imgur.com/OSkRxCO.jpgSource: Also, Nintendo is holding a Smash4 tournament at E3 featuring people in the professional Smash scene. Rules are set to please both casual and competitive audiences (timed 4 player free-for-all matches with items, then 1-on-1). It's awesome that Nintendo is acknowledging and reaching out to its hardcore Smash fans, and it makes sense that they don't want to alienate the casual audience, (not to mention the fact that game has no developed metagame yet so a srs bsns tournament wouldn't make sense anyways.)
