You guys are falling behind for once; I'm suprised. Meta Knight is now confirmed. In addition, Sakurai disclosed a little info on his up special. It no longer is a glide (since gliding is clearly gone in general) and attacks opponents twice while spinning in a large loop.

I'd heard about it and mentioned it elsewhere but I forgot to mention it here.
I'm hoping he's nerfed a bit more than that, and I'm glad he's back, but I don't want to default to him if it turns out I don't like any of the new characters. Then again, there's so many I'm interested in that hopefully it shouldn't be an issue.
I'm crossing my fingers for Ness.

Nah, I keep up with the pics of the day (and other news). Just wasn't too surprised. What was surprising is that he got confirmed in a PotD... Wonder exactly how Shuttle Loop will work now though, as its entire recovery before was the gliding part.
And even if Meta Knight isn't too changed, I doubt he'll be considered as broken anymore, when even a character like Bowser is pretty fast and deadly now.

Sakurai said there wouldn't be too many more cutscene reveals.

Hey, just a little question (hopefully I won't start any controversy with this one since everywhere else seems to...) What do you all think about the Ridley situation?

I don't know, what is the Riddley situation? Because a giant Dragon towering over the rest of the characters isn't in the game?
You know, I was really hoping Bayonetta would be in the game because she wears a Samus outfit in the new game. She wouldn't be out of place, right? Oh, but hey, screw Bayonetta, why not just have Jubileus, she'd be easy to balance, right?
But lets get more Nintendo themed, I want to play as Grima. I mean, why not? How about Giygas if we're not going to have Lucus or Ness?
OH BUT HEY, SCREW NINTENDO, I WANT TO PLAY AS MASTER CHEIF! LET ME PLAY AS GEORGE BUSH! DECEASED MINATO SHINJIRO AND STREGA FOR PERSONA 4 ARENA!
Erm, sorry. I just don't understand why people have the stupidest expectations for these things. I couldn't care less if he's in the game or not, but I wouldn't guess in a million years that a character of his size and power would be playable in a game like this. We did all see and fight him in the subspace emissary, yes?

Yes, however, the whole thing about "size" can be easily remedied. You've played SMG, correct? Sunshine? Remember how huge Bowser was in comparison to Mario? Aside from the RPGs and the early, early Mario platformers, Bowser is far, far bigger than Mario, and was scaled down for smash. If Bowser can, why can't Ridley? Olimar and Kirby have been scaled up. Size is unimportant for smash. I don't play much Metroid. I've beaten Super Metroid and that's it. However, I do think Metroid should have another rep, seeing as how it's "one of nintendo's main series" but still only has one rep, and frankly Ridley is the best option there is to my knowledge.

Bowser has also been the same scale in other games as he is in smash.
Now that I think of it, I haven't played the earlier NES metroids. I think Riddley was smaller in those games, perhaps even small enough, but I'd have to check again and I would still find it jarring if he were included and I still don't understand people who are asking for him. There's nothing particularly special about Riddley anyway, he lacks human personality by design. A big, speechless, animal brute.

Do not try to predict the Sakurai, just accept it.

Do not try to predict the Sakurai, just accept it. I'm not trying to predict it, I know Sakurai is a troll and unpredictable. I'm just saying whether Ridley "can" or "can't."

It's definitely possible. Ridley was barely bigger than Samus on the NES. He's been pretty huge after, that... But he could easily be around Dedede's size, as his size has always been inconsistent, but he'd be large enough. And it's easy to make an original moveset for him. Either, Sakurai will not fail to please. Yep.

Oh yeah! I remembered the NES Ridley but I forgot about the Melee opening.

The other problem is that Metroid isn't really popular in Japan compared to its "companion" Nintendo franchises, which is perhaps why Other M was designed to. . . try and appeal to that audience.
Whatever you have to say about that game is irrelevant to the discussion at hand, and in counter to my own point, Smash Bros is one giant marketing opportunity for just about any franchise - it's exposure. I mean really, how many kids these days knew about the Ice Climbers or Pit before Melee (Pit's trophy and whatnot), and again with ROB and Pit (under the new design) in Brawl, among other things. Really, large crossover games like this are the perfect place to test the waters for the reception of characters and franchises. (So is Hyrule Warriors, but that's another discussion.)

In some ways, that is amazing. In others, oh crud. Bowser Jr. is a great choice, the Duck Hunt Dog is a really cool retro pick since they add one or two per game, and Shulk will appease Xenoblade fans and probably be a cool character. On the downside...Dark Pit kinda ruins it. No, not for the clone argument, he can be very seperate from Pit, using Silver Bow, DPStaff and the rest of his weapons as attacks and specials. However, it means a series with three games that really only became really well known with Uprising, now has more reps than Metroid. Metroid, one of their biggest franchises...hah. They didn't get a 25th anniversary thing like the other main series did, and two characters in smash 4. Samus. twice. It just doesn't seem probable.

DR. MARIOOOOOOOOOO. *wipes tear from eye* Yeah, I was glad to see that too. Like I said though...in some ways I hope this is true. In some ways I hope it's fake.

Ok, this is going to be the best game. Returning cast for final smash/assist trophies metal face boss Bionis stage and music from perhaps the best soundtrack in all of gaming? Plus extreme britishness and Reyn Shulk time? Yep, new main. I'll be rocking out to you will know our names constantly.
The animated portion showed Shulk predicting Link and Marth's attacks, so they're not going to conveniently forget about that major aspect of the gameplay, but, uh, how will that work in gameplay? Will he be able to predict items appearing or something? But then if he could everyone could... I didn't see any Monado shield or speed symbols, so I really don't know, although from the looks of things he's using just about every symbol. Maybe I need to watch the trailer again.
EDIT: Oh ok, he actually does scream shield, speed, and buster, the core three abilities. 'Smash' however wasn't originally an ability, so they probably wont be sticking entirely to the original game when it comes to the moveset. Something like purge would be rather pointless, after all.
