It must be said....
all Final Fantasy games past 7 suck, in my opinion.
The early ones had good storylines, and focused on story & gameplay, not the dumb graphics, and weird over-realistic people.
I've really taken a shine to this game.
A friend recommended it to me, along with my cousin, after i'd said Final Fantasy sucked.
They got me to play it.
It was really fun.
Excruciatingly hard, but fun.
What do you people think, of the earlier Final Fantasies? (1-7)
And the newer ones? (8 and beyond)
Discuss!
(also, by Final fantasy III, I mean the one only released in Japan at first, tyhen remade for DS & iPhone)

I have only played 1, 2, 4, 8, and 10.
I have to say that I have to agree with you completely.
However I think that from what I have heard 9 is also pretty solid if you can get past the weird graphics. However, I can't vouch for it too hard because I haven't played it.
There are all kinds of old franchises getting their heads back into the game after slipping for a time.
Megaman
Sonic
etc.
Too bad Final Fantasy is only getting worse.
8 and 10 were two of the worst things I have ever played.
And this is coming from someone who legitimately had some fun with Pokemon Channel and ET for the Atari.
Edit: which 3 did you play?
The original only in japan version which is a hard a all get out and has 90 hours of grinding to even hope to beat the game?
Or the version for the DS that cut out all of that painful leveling up, but still managed to kick your ass?

I've played 1, both versions of 3, 4, 7, and 9.
I'll tell you, 9 is CRAP.
I played a tiny bit of 8 as well, and hated it.
The ones i've really played through are 1,3,7, and 9
Also, You ENJOYED Pokemon Channel?!?!?
I'm not the only one now! ;D
One more thing, I agree. FFIII is hard as crap.
There's still a LOT of Grinding involved.
I was supposed to have all my party members lv:24, before taking on a certain boss.
I dont grind a lot, so I came in with 3 lv 20's....
and a lv 28.
So much faster just to grind one person.
I won, but it was close.

The only proper final fantasy games I have played are final fantasy 4 on the DS, and final fantasy 13.
Final fantasy 4 was good, it's story was excellent but in my opinion it was presented poorly, and I didn't like the ATB battle system.
Final fantasy 13 sacrificed good gameplay for graphics and story.
Yeah, I actually liked the story and characters in final fantasy 13 but it went on for sooo long (gameplay segments sucked), and I will probably never beat it now. especially since I ruined most of the story for it now.
final fantasy 13's difficulty mostly stemmed from cheap boss fights, that killed you in the most ridiculous ways like the doom counter.
I used to have final fantasy 8, but I was far to young to appreciate it.
overall, my assessment of the final fantasy series so far has not been good, and I ruined the story for games like final fantasy 7, and I love kingdom hearts, which features final fantasy characters.
In my opinion, KH is better than the FF series, KH was originally just a spinoff but it has evolved into something oh so more epic than that.

Gameplay just sucks. 3. If you decide to grind at all, the final boss is About as hard as crappin in the toilet. In other words, it makes it even more easy. 4. story is blah. 5. Weird graphics(i can get over that one, but the others are inexscusable.) oh yeah, and 6. Its got the grap ATB just like FF4 has. |

I am a huge fan of FF4 and I have to say that a lot of that is the fault of the DS remake. The original one told the story well, as did the GBA remake, but the DS version focused more on Cecils angst, which was comically portrayed in an overly emphasized fashion. Also, that story is used and reused all the time because it is so old. I am not going to say that FF4 invented that story, but in my opinion it really perfected it 20 years ago (almost to the month), and people have been using it ever since. So unfortunately it is easy to get a been there heard that feeling with the story. Edit: The ATB battle system is really take it or leave it. |

I've played 4 briefly, but I don't remember any of it
I've played 5, but I got stuck rather early on.
I've played 7 and 8.
I've played 9, but I somehow got lost in the first forest.
I've played 10.
Personally, I think they started going downhill after 10. 8 wasn't as bad as you say, and 9 was probably good, but, as I said, I didn't really get into it.

You have to realize that not everyone will see these games as the epitome of games like you do. Someone may feel that the story is convoluted, and can be perfectly validated in saying so. You seeing things differently does not make their opinion false. Personally, I don't really like the story because it sounds like it was written by angsty 13 year olds. You don't have to understand someone else's views in order to acknowledge or accept them. |

(that MLP is good, I feel so calm and mellow... which is not understandable considering how active it is.) |

I haven't beaten any Final Fantasy (Dissidia doesn't count) but if I had to rate them by what I played so far: 1 (pretty good, good way to start the series), 2 (haven't played much so can't say), 4 (AWESOME!!), 5 ( Like it, has good characters and storyline, 6 (haven't played much but I think I'll love it, already love the story the setting and the characters). and 12 (barely played any but looks good as long as Vaan isn't talking).

^My guess would be it has something to do with the Junction system, based on the fact that it's different. But I like the game, so I can't definitively explain why people don't like it.

I have played both KH 1 & 2. May I inquire why you dont like it? Well...... 1. I'm just REALLY not a big fan of action RPG's. Not just KH, but most in general. 2. The storyline just.......bothers me......i'm not sure why, it just does. 3. I just hate this game for all the praise it gets, whereas TRUE good games, like Gotcha Force, are shunned(Gamespot review?) three games that top that, in my opinion, are: LOZ Ocarina of Time (gets the credit it deserves, cant wait for 3ds remake on June 19!) LOZ Majora's mask (largely shunned, hey, people just didnt like the 3 day system. As for me, I love it. Still dont understand HOW that banker can recognize you when he's never seen you before in his life.) Paper Mario (remembered more than Majora's mask, but not appreciated as much as it should be.) These four games(included gotcha force) should get the respect KH does, in my opinion. KH can go crawl up in a cave and die, for all I care. |
