As do I. I mean, even if everything we haven't seen stinks, Shining Armour and Cadance are returning, Spike is backup singing and dancing ballerina-like, and the mane cast is singing songs in unison. ;D That's already quite a bit to look forward to seeing again for me

I'm mostly surprised at those who treat it as though it's the biggest moment of their lives...

Better than expected.

Edit: Will have to say I'm a bit disappointed in the villain. Very little characterization and for most of the episode(s) he was just a cackling black blob.

Why does he inexplicably turn into his pony form at the end anyway? Exactly why is he physically different from other ponies? Did his magic corrupt him or change him? And how did Princess Celestia / Twilight learn his magic? Are they capable of corrupting the Crystal Empire just like him then? Is his magic corrupting / evil? If so, why would Celestia and Twilight even want to know such magic?

If the enchanted door and evil crystal formations are any indication, I see very little reason for Princess Celestia or Twilight to harness such magic. It's the equivalent of defeating Chrysalis and then learning her mind control spell.

Yeah the new villain was pretty disappointing. Pretty sure his only lines were "MUAAHAHAA!" and "Crystals~"

I interpreted it as black magic, not specifically "Sombra's" magic. An advanced mage like Celestia has the ability and knowledge to use it, but under normal circumstances she wouldn't have had any reason to.

An interesting point. However when Celestia casts said magic her eyes look almost like Sombra's, and the magical blasts more or less share his color scheme.

In the case it's not his, then it seems it's more of a corrupting "evil" or "black" magic. After all, anyone can see Sombra doesn't look like any Crystal Pony or Unicorn.

And I don't know about you, but Twilight doesn't look very comfortable casting it on the throne. Though she does seem to have an easier time when casting it at the door (though she does seem angry or frustrated during this).

I didn't cry or anything like the last episode, but I wasn't expecting to anyways. Lots of hilarious and sweet moments, especially with Rarity starting to turn into comic relief ;D Good to have the ponies back!

Personally, I think it was a specific variety of dark magic, drawn from despair. This is why such magic created despair in those effected, and opened a door to ones worst fear. In Sombre's case, he embraced despair and sought to spread it to others, which altered his physical appearance and nature. In essence, he abandoned his original self for power, putting his own future ahead of others, feeding off their sorrow.

And I agree, Sombre was dissapointing. In any parody videos, I fully expect his battle cry to be, "I'M A PLOT DEVICE!"

If you watched the episode live (or watched the version I posted with the commercials), you would notice a certain commercial that was played very often. Gak on its own isn't particularly interesting; but the bg music has a guy saying "Gak gak gak. Gak gak gak." over and over. Also at one point they played, back to back, 4 Gak commercials.
