Meh, an alright episode I guess. Kinda spoiled it by being too obvious that Twilight was causing herself the issues, and then not realising that going back in time would only repeat the same story. Still, Spike eating Ice Cream and future Twilight's "Actually, I'm from next Tuesday morning" quote made it worthwhile.

Also, why exactly did no one question what Twilight was doing sneaking around? I mean, full black suit, at night, and not one bit of suspicion?

I think they're all familiar with Twilight already. She did spend most of life in Canterlot before moving to Ponyville and I'm sure they've seen her there often. I find it amusing, as if Twilight is so weird that the guards don't even bat an eye at her wearing a catsuit into the library.

I ask because Twilight specifically questioned why no one was suspicious as to her being there (especially with the catsuit...), so i thought i must've missed some obvious joke or something.

So I found this while browsing pony music on youtube. It's a ponified parody of The Offspring's You're Gonna Go Far Kid.
Pretty well done, though I think his vocals might sound better if they were a bit more agressive.

Another Saturday, another Pony episode.

...To be honest I don't exactly know how I feel about this episode. I thought overall it was enjoyable but there was a couple of huge moments in this episode that I couldn't forgive. So much so that I actually, despite disagreeing with much of it, I made an entry on TvTropes' Dethroning Moment of Suck Page for this show. I still recommend watching it though. Also on a side note, Diamond Tiara is forever cemented as my least favorite character on the show.

I thought this episode had a lot of great moments like how the CMC's "mamby pamby stories" weren't getting them closer to their cutie marks, or the callback to Trixie, or AJ switching scripts with Big Mac, or Pinkie Pie's "It's all true!"

This episode put Diamond Tiara in a somewhat better light than the other ones, at least initially imo. Before, she was only portrayed as the arrogant, popular, spoiled kid who exists only to antagonize others, but in this episode it shows her business/leadership side. She sees that no one cares about the school newspaper and she will do anything to change that; it just so happens that kids want to read about gossip. I really thought the episode would have ended with the CMC tabloid being published and them realizing how hurtful it was, or a tabloid on Diamond Tiara that ends with her realizing the same or shutting down the column out of embarrassment. The ending they went with was good too, just not what I expected.

Speaking of Diamond Tiara, I couldn't help but be reminded of J. J. Jameson's "I want pictures! Pictures of Spiderman!"and of course the ponified J. J. Jameson's "I want pictures! Pictures of ponies!"

Slightly related, where was Silver Spoon in all of this?

This all goes downhill when Rarity finds out the truth about Gabby Gums, and suddenly everyone in Ponyville treats the CMC like outcasts! This goes to ridiculous proportions when Applejack refuses to talk to even her own sister (besides for "yeps" and "nopes") while Big Mac literally tells her to "Go Away!!" and Rainbow Dash literally putting a raincloud over their heads!

It's not all that unusual considering the townsponies did much the same thing when they saw a zebra approaching their town. Not trying to equate the CMC's situation with Zecora's situation since they're obviously different, but shutting their doors to someone they don't want to be in contact with isn't anything new.

This was horrible to see three children go through this stuff and also jarring since earlier the three have shown that the[y']re starting to regret gathering these stories and are mostly because of peer pressure and blackmail. Sure everything ends fine in the end and it didn't ruin me from enjoying the episode but it's still shocking that the "adult" ponies could treat children this way.

I think it was intentionally done to show that even though they didn't want to write those stories and only did it because of Diamond Tiara, it doesn't make it okay. I don't think the pony's responses were out of character, but I agree that I would have expected them to act a bit more mature toward children. I guess when the plot of the episode revolves around the idea of a town/country buzzing to read a tabloid run by schoolchildren, you can't really expect a lot of maturity.

^Yes, I do agree that untill the point where she threatened them with blackmail, Diamond Tiara was pretty funny.

Even though I can see where they creators were going, there is a line between being upset and being childish as I'll show in a quote from another entry.

there is an obvious line between being reasonably upset at someone and acting like a petulant child when you're a full-grown adult. I can understand Rarity's and even Applejack's reasons for their bitterness towards the trio (having your own sister saying such things about you publicly is undoubtedly an awful experience, and reading someone's personal diary is never okay), but to go so far as for every single citizen of Ponyville to completely shun and in some cases verbally lambast them? I don't think they did anything abhorrent enough to deserve such a punishment.

Besides for the two mentioned the only reaction I can really agree upon is Fluttershy's, heck I can even understand Angle's reaction. But the way Rainbow Dash and Twilight, and heck even rest of the town acted was completely childish and I don't care if it was to show how much the CMC screwed up. It did it in such a way that I think they didn't deserve the hate they got, especially since it's partially Diamond Tiara's fault for blackmailing them!
Sorry, but I just really don't like when children in media are treated so horribly in shows that are supposed to be kinder then this. Again, other then those scenes I really liked the episode, even when Pinkie Pied cried, and I especially liked the ending and how mature the CMC took the whole situation.

Guys, you all have to remember that the town had no idea that Diamond Tiara was blackmailing the CMC. As far as they were concerned, the CMC were fully responsible for the Gabby Gums column (they didn't know that the pictures were caught by Featherweight either, they thought Gabby Gums had done it all herself). Since the CMC were the only ponies publicly known to be causing the issues, the town would concentrate their collective hate on them, and thus the entire town shunned them.

RD's reaction wasn't actually that bad. Hey, she used a LIGHTNING BOLT during Luna Eclipsed just to scare ponies. all she did was make it rain on the CMC, and that's not only a lot nicer than a lightning bolt, it's also a joke that she's literally raining on their parade.

As for Twilight, she would obviously have a much stronger reaction, as we're led to believe Spike was indeed innocent (after getting mad at Spike, and him denying all allegations, Twilight specifically says that Gabby Gums "lies" and makes up stuff). That means that the CMC had actually gone and ruined her relationship with her best friend (not to mention the tension that would arise from them living in the same tree, if Spike had actually said such things). Given that sound was allowed through the forcefield (as opposed to blocking everything out), i would assume Twilight just used her forcefield as a magical way of ignoring the three, sort of like Applejack's reaction.

AJ and Bic Mac...it's nice to see Big Mac get some lines for once. Again, i put it down to the fact the CMC had gone and hurt two characters who were close to each other, and thus they would feed off each other in their reactions (let's face it, as soon as AJ ignored the CMC, it's not like Big Mac could've been nice without annoying AJ). Plus, they didn't really have much of a choice in the matter. Like Twilight and RD, their method wasn't so much to hurt the CMC, so much as to stop their gossip.

Come to think of it, everyone's reaction wasn't a punishment so much as their own protection. Forcefield, ignoring the CMC, telling them to "Go away" or just shutting your doors and windows is a simple way to stop journalists (well, at least in Equestria, maybe not in the real [strikeout]news of the [/strikeout]world ).

Anyways, i quite liked the episode, and ultimately i think a lot of people are forgetting the fact that they're viewers who see a lot more of what's going on than the citizens of Ponyville.
