That's not my point - for some reason the topic doesn't update so I can't keep up with the conversation.
I'm only focusing on the negative connotation of Vanilla. I can't play Project M or Brawl anymore, so I can't give any personal experience. I can only say from every single video I've seen of Project m that they have on the official channel and memories of Brawl that are 2+ years old.
Which amounts to "Olimar cheeses Brutal difficulty Story Bosses because dramatic hit-pause." and "Why doesn't my friend code work for anybody? Why are all the randoms just taunting?"
Edit:And suddenly Jhen Mohran is a background piece. I approve.
Double Edit:Bulborb and Super Metroid boss statue room.

I know it's a wide term, it's just unusual for it to refer to something with unofficial modifications... I think so, anyway.I'm aware of the other mods, though. There's really some amazing custom characters and stages... Edit: Found that old video that was full of amazingness. 1:58 among other stuff. Ummm... That's the exact definition of Vanilla. For me, it also seems unusual to refer to milk as a dairy product... I think so, anyway.

Everyone is meant to be overpowered in that....Project M is something differnt entirely.

Lol, I know the difference. I was just going on about other mods. Everything I mentioned before was about Project M, though.
And Al, I think you didn't quite understand what I meant. I've seen it used more as a term when something has official additions, such as patches or expansions. Whenever there's outside mods, people just call those mods and don't call the original game vanilla, in my experience.

As a guy who used to play Super Mario World romhacks occasionally (and I guess I also programmed that fish, like, a year ago), I'm pretty sure every modding community ever calls the original material vanilla. Also there's no real negative connotations associated with it unless you're stupid and modding a game you don't even like in the first place.

Well, now that doesn't make a lot of sense to me... Not that vanilla's a negative term, but why call something vanilla if all of its alternate versions are <mod name>? I think it'd be more logical to use the term just when describing something that has updates, but it is what it is...
