My body was frozen as I felt the water invade my lungs. I was too afraid, too young, too stupid to hold my breath, and too weak to make my way back to the surface. The sunlight faded, leaving me in a black, weightless void with no sense of what was up and what was down.

I continued to drift further down, until I eventually hit the bottom of the lake with a small thud. Somehow, I was still conscious. Still alive. I laid on the soft sandy floor, staring upwards, the darkness reflecting my blank thoughts. After a while, I began to hear footsteps.

They stopped right next to my head. I could hear something almost resembling static. The thing behind me kneeled down, and placed its hand on my cheek lovingly. It was warm, like it held in their hands the comforting rays of the morning sun.

I didn’t say anything. I just enjoyed the warmth for as long as I could.

There’s nothing up there. The world ended.

How do you know?

Lawrence
There’s nothing to see, nothing to feel.

Nothing at all?

Lawrence
It’s all gone. Let me stay here.

But do you know where you are?

It doesn’t matter.

The static was quiet for a few moments. Then, I saw it lean over me. Its head was featureless and semi-transparent, and was filled with images of all my memories and pictures of Lance that flashed before my eyes in a wave of distorted television static.

I can take you deeper. It’s warmer there, but if I do, I won’t let you go.

It leaned down, until the head was almost touching me. Then its head was inside of me, and the sound of a phone alarm exploded in my ears, waking me up in a cold sweat.

I'm finally caught up! But I don't really have anything to add, except the bio nerd wants to know more about the bio stuff they do rather than the chem/phys stuff But, not sure if that's in your scope or not. Nicely done! It's definitely a cool world you've built and I'm interested in seeing what happens now that a lot of foundational stuff has been laid down.

The only thing is that the dream you just mentioned seems a little off in tone with what Lawrence was saying in the last post about Lance seeming just like another building. I guess it's a good way to remind the reader that Lawrence sees Lance's landing as a childhood-ending event, though, which has a whole host of implications along with it :3

I think there's definitely a conflict with what Lawrence thinks of Lance at this point. Like what he thinks on a conscious level about hating Lance more than being afraid of it, and how his first day mystified Lance, and the fear he actually feels deep down thanks to his childhood scaring and the impact it's had on his life as a whole. But yeah it may seem a bit odd to cut to something like that so soon after the last part.

Not sure who you mean by the Bio nerd? I thought Chloe was the only scientist I introduced.

Haven't had much motivation to write Lance recently- I've been hit with a swarm of ideas recently, and I feel as though I need to get them out of my system before I can really be excited about writing Lance again. Not sure if any of those ideas will be relevant in the long term, but I just don't want them to interfere with Lance right now.

I also have to do some work on my dissertation, which will take away some of my time.
