Summary: Jake is a nine-year-old boy with a passion for yo-yos, and he is part of a neighborhood yo-yo club that he and his friends formed. One day, he receives an invite to a yo-yo contest at some far-off place known only as Yo-Yo Island. He accepts the invitation, and on the day that he is to go to the island, he learns that the neighborhood champ, Alexander, who specializes in off-string play, had also received and accepted an invitation to the Yo-Yo Island Yo-Yo Contest. They arrive on the island, and meet other young players like themselves, all raring to show their stuff at the yo-yo contest. But, little did they know is that a sinister plot is hatching in the background, involving a "forbidden yo-yo" said to contain a dark, evil power, and a coup d'etat to forcefully gain control of the island.

Chapter 1: The Invitation to Yo-Yo Island!
NOTE: This chapter will be in Alexander's POV
My name is Alexander, nicknamed "Alexander the Great" by my peers in the neighborhood of Nova Terrace in the town of Sunny Hills, California. They call me "the Great", not just to reference the legendary ancient conqueror, but also because of my skills in off-string yo-yo play. You see, yo-yos are quite popular in Sunny Hills, second only to online gaming. As a matter of fact, there's a skill toys shop in the downtown area called Yo-YoTopia, which not only has yo-yos of almost every brand, but also kendamas, diabolos, and even spin tops. It is run by a well-meaning man named Richard, who was once a professional yo-yo player. He also distributes Hyper Yo-Yo products made by Bandai, that Japanese toy company best known for those Tamagotchi v-pets.
The yo-yo I use for off-string play, is a YoYoJam Big Yo, one of the biggest on the market. 96mm in diameter, 67mm in width, weighs 75 grams. Butterfly-shaped body made of a durable plastic to survive the harsh drops and bouncing of off-string play, uses an o-ring response system common in most YoYoJam yo-yos, and it uses an especially large X-Large (also known as a Size M) ball bearing. Sometimes, I use other off-string yo-yos that I own, especially a Henrys Viper Neo XL with blue rubber shells, but the Big Yo is my favorite to use, because it's very good for getting attention, thanks to its large size.
You see the "Team Spiral-Yo" Jersey vest I wear? It belonged to my father before he died. He was a member of Team Spiral-Yo, one of the most famous yo-yo teams in California. How dear old dad died is not something I'm comfortable in bringing up, but anyways. I don't really tell people my likes, but what I don't like are spineless cowards, arrogant morons, and anything I deem to be meaningless (i.e. stupid arguments or internet trolls).
However, I'm not the only "good" yo-yo player in Nova Terrace. There is this outgoing nine-year-old kid named Jake, who is part of a yo-yo club that he and his friends from school formed. A little on the naive side, but he's pretty good at looping tricks, and uses a Yomega Raider that's got the classic late-1990s-style side caps.
One day, I received an invitation to this yo-yo contest in some far-off place known as Yo-Yo Island. The winner receives what they dub the "Ultimate Yo-yo", which they claim to be versatile for all playing styles, along with a $50,000 cash prize. I decided to RSVP that I accept their invitation, wanting to show the other competitors (who are apparently invited from different parts of the world) some REAL yo-yoing. You see, in addition to most off-string tricks, I also improvise with flamboyant and physically-active tricks, too. They call me the "neighborhood champ" due to how good I am, and even Jake and his little friends look up to me. I'm also known for this intimidating glare, which I use to let my opponents know that I'm serious business. On the day that this van comes to pick me up to take me to the airport for the flight to Yo-Yo Island, I find that Jake was also coming along. Seems he received and accepted an invitation, as well. When he saw me, he was surprised for a moment or two. Jake must have assumed that they invited no one else from Nova Terrace.
Anyways, we soon made it to the airport, where we boarded our all-expenses-paid flight to Yo-Yo Island. Well, with Jake sitting with me on this flight, and considering that he doesn't like having dull moments, he requested to have the Super Yo-Yo anime played on the TV above our seats. Of course, it's the original Japanese version (titled Super Sonic Spinners) with English subtitles. It is then that a flight attendant came along and offered us snacks free of charge. Jake requested some dry-roasted peanuts to enjoy with the anime. Me? I just requested a chocolate protein bar. Hey, a talented player like me has got to eat healthy, right?
The flight lasted for about a day or two, before we arrived on Yo-Yo Island, which kind of reminds me of Hawaii. Speaking of Hawaii, Jake brought up the fact that Hawaii was where Team High Performance, founded by Alan Nagao of High Performance Kites, contributed to the yo-yo boom. As we were getting off of the plane, we noticed some other planes arriving on the runway. I thought, "So, these must be the other competitors," as I then saw them land. Jake and I could only wonder who we may be up against in the yo-yo contest to come. However, I'm also a bit skeptical about this so-called "Ultimate Yo-yo" that they're offering as the prize along with the $50,000 cash. Is it actually possible to create a yo-yo that can be used for all playing styles? Nevertheless, we may get our answers very, VERY soon...

Chapter 2: Meeting the Competitors!
Jake looked on with awe as the planes carrying the other competitors landed on the runway, before noticing Alexander deep in thought, as if suspicious of something. He asks the older yo-yo player in concern, "Alexander, is something bothering you?" The neighborhood champ of Nova Terrace himself replies, "I'm alright, Jake. I'm just a little skeptical about this Ultimate Yo-Yo that they're supposedly offering as one of the grand prizes along with that $50 Grand in cash. There's never such thing as a "perfect yo-yo", it's an impossible folly. There's quite a few factors to take into consideration if there is to be a yo-yo usable for every playing style there is, as well. Body shape, spin times, string gap, body material, response system, and everything." The nine-year-old looping enthusiast sighed, "Hmmm, I suppose so. Say, why don't we say hello to our fellow competitors," as he sees various young boys and girls in his and Alexander's age range get off of the planes. (Chapter is a WIP)
