Four years, and nobody thought to make a general Pikmin thread? I'm insulted.
So, for those who don't know, Pikmin is a game series created in 2001 for the Gamecube, based on a combination of the Super Mario 128 project, RTS games, and Shigeru Miyamoto's childhood observations of insects at work. It currently has three installments, Pikmin, Pikmin 2, and Pikmin 3. It also has a fourth "installment," a minigame in Nintendo Land for the Wii U called Pikmin Adventure, which, while called a minigame is actually about as long as the main installments. As you can gather from that last statement, a rather unfortunate staple to the games is that they are incredibly immersive, but short, with all three games lasting between 5 and 10 hours on average. The three games follow adventures to a post-apocalyptic Earth 250 million years in the future, given the name of PNF-404. On this planet, adventures with small creatures called Pikmin are experienced by various explorers from varying fictional planets.
I wanted to keep writing but forced myself to stop since it was already getting very ranty. So yeah. I like this series, incase you couldn't tell. Discuss any of the three games (and Pikmin Adventure, if you so choose) here. Any other spinoff series such as Smash Bros. including Olimar would probably be better off in one of the Smash Bros. threads.
'Nuff said.

Hey, don't pass the blame, it took four years for you, too.
I only ever played the first one, and I liked it a lot. However it's just not my kind of game... On top of how bad I felt every time all these little creatures died for me.
This is pretty spoilersish. But it's so beautiful and sad...
I couldn't bear to repeat this through two more games...

I truly feel bad if I leave a pikmin behind at sunset. If I let them get eaten it's a bit disheartening, but ESPECIALLY leaving them at sunset. I actually played the first one again today. Took my time and beat it in 25 days.

I've played pikmin 1 and 2 and I remember liking them a fair bit. However, I've never completed either of them. Huh.

Wait, what? I thought I made a Pikmin Thread back when I was Antares. . .
*scratches head*
Well, at any rate, all ready had my fun with the first two. Piklopedia was a great idea. But has anyone played Pikmin 3?
Actually, I don't even know if Pikmin 3 is out yet. I should go check.

Be one of those people then who get really good at the game and do no-death runs.

To get good would mean having to witness countless more deaths until you can do it perfectly...

To get good would mean having to witness countless more deaths until you can do it perfectly... Not really. Use the internet to research map layouts, enemy attacks, etc.

Alternatively, captains make good scouts and researchers. Especially the one who, y'know, is a real captain (Read:Olimar)(Read:Haven't played P3).
Also did they bring back the Piklopedia in 3 or will I have to be a very frowned frownbomb?

Also did they bring back the Piklopedia in 3 or will I have to be a very frowned frownbomb? Replace Olimar with Charlie and that's accurate for Pikmin 3. That said, you will have to be a frownbomb; there is no Piklopedia despite the group actually having a botanist there to study the life on the planet, who is SUPPOSED to be taking notes.
