I'm stoked to play this game. A Mario online multiplayer makes me ecstatic. If anyone else is getting this, I hope to meet you. - Admin

I wasn't going to get this since it seemed like another rehash, but a chance to play Mario with you guys just sounds golden. EDIT: Unfortunately all it took was one google search to find out that I wont be getting this game after all...

Still getting it because...well, it's the first time I can play a 3D mario platformer with my friends. Nintendo needs to realize that local play just isn't as accessible anymore. Still include it of course, but they need more focus on their online play.

Got friends who will play tales and fighting games like brawl and Blazblue, but no one was interested in NSMB Wii when I got it way back. It's strange really, since no one complains about the excellent online of pokemon and uprising.

As for Uprising, there is lag, but Uprising's online is pretty good.

You mentioned how no one complains about the online for those games. In a game like Pokemon, basically only a moron would complain about it because it does its job of hooking up two players, and there's nothing in a turn-based online game to complain about.
And Kid Icarus has lag, but it's hard to complain about it considering how well it works for such a fast paced game with bullets full of different variables and trajectories and twitch melee and dodges. So yes, it is excellent. Ruling out gamebreaking weapons and strategies.
Well, Admin had me fooled, too. Guess that's what happens when you hear a rumor and pass it on confidently. In a selfish kind of way, I'm glad it doesn't have online because I won't be missing out on it for not being able to buy every dang system that comes out. Never being able to play Smash 4 online is already painful enough.

Well, Admin had me fooled, too. If anyone's been fooled it's me! I made this post right after seeing a video that explicitly showed four players playing online. Right afterwards I couldn't for the life of me find the same video again, only information that online wasn't a part of this game! * rides the confusion train* Apparently you can only play against other players ghost data, sorta like Mario Kart. Doesn't matter to me though. I'm still very psyched about this game. Best 3D Mario, no question. - Admin

I meant that no one complained about their existence, I know no significant body of people (I'm sure there's always at least some complaining douchbag) complained about their performance. I've heard only praise on both accounts.

... They're good? Or useless... Depends on the weapon. Melee in general can be hard to deal with online, but you get used to how it works. The one thing I still don't get is clashes... The outcomes of those and how they work is just... What? Don't really know what you're getting at though. For what it is, I think the melee is handled nicely. Man, I need to get started on a new playthrough. Though it's actually a kind of game that I'm looking forward to playing through again, with its awesome and hilarious story mode and the infinite possibilities of new weapons.
Oh wait, this isn't the Uprising topic...

The game came out. Anyone here get it yet? Yep, I bought it today. It's fantastic, and even better with other people. The game has nintendo's signature amazing level design, and like SMG is willing to bring in a mechanic for one level and remove it after. The diversity in the characters is very significant and makes choosing a character an actually tough descision. I go with Toad, I manage with his small jumping ability and his running speed is very nice. All in all, a very good game, however, the camera with multiplayer is a bit odd. That's my only complaint.

This is by far the best 3D Mario game ever. No contest. If you haven't bought it yet, do it now! It stays modern but still retains a classic old-school feel about it. Just a crying shame there's no online multiplayer. I don't think Nintendo can top this. I will have extremely high expectations for the next Mario game now. 10/10.

I'm hearing so much praise for this game, not just from this thread, and I don't get it, then again I haven't played it yet nor do I intend to because it doesn't look any different to 3D land on the 3DS, which seriously put me off the mario franchise. Are there any thematic or narrative elements to the game that sets it apart from the usual slog? Are there any gameplay elements which switch up the core gameplay significantly? I mean I know there's cat mario and other powerups, but do they really make the game feel totally different? I hear the characters are all different, but besides Lugi's usual differences and Peaches floating, are they really so different? Apparently. Are the visuals as amazing as the two galaxies, or are they as immerse and charming as sunshine's? Do the levels or worlds have their own unique personality to them which makes revisiting them a joy? Do the levels still feel like they were designed, as opposed to how it was in Sunshine where it felt like a place where people actually lived? Is the game still as lonely before, with a mute Bowser, no other non enemy NPCs besides the toads and absolutely no interesting mario RPG caliber dialogue?
WHAT MAKES THIS GAME SO GOOD!? I hear people talking about how the level design is good and how it feels fresh, but I haven't heard anything which would make me interested in it. I hear the multiplayer is good, but no one around my local area will want to play it with me. Is it merely just a nostalgia trip done effectively? I don't know, I rarely do this but I may have to wait to hear Zero punctuation's opinion on the game before I make any decision to spend time and money on it. That never happens.
I miss Bowser Jr, Count Bleck, the shadow queen and child like, hopeless Bowser...

Are there any thematic or narrative elements to the game that sets it apart from the usual slog? - uh...as you'd figure since she's a playable character, Peach isn't kidnapped this time like she is in every other mario game. Aside from that? Nah, not really. Story is not needed to make a great game. Are there any gameplay elements which switch up the core gameplay significantly? - Yes. As I've said, the levels introduce different mechanics a lot. I mean I know there's cat mario and other powerups, but do they really make the game feel totally different? - The mechanics do, the powerups do not. I hear the characters are all different, but besides Lugi's usual differences and Peaches floating, are they really so different? - Play the game as all four characters. The characters play VERY different. Are the visuals as amazing as the two galaxies, or are they as immerse and charming as sunshine's? Do the levels or worlds have their own unique personality to them which makes revisiting them a joy? - The visuals are better. That's what makes a HD console so great in terms of graphics. Immersive? That's up to you. For me, it was enough so to where I 100%'d the game in under 24 hours. The levels are very unique and different, and I've gone back to a few many times because of how much fun they are. Do the levels still feel like they were designed, as opposed to how it was in Sunshine where it felt like a place where people actually lived? - Not even a fair question. Besides, while I love Sunshine, it's level variance was limited because of its theme. Is the game still as lonely before, with a mute Bowser, no other non enemy NPCs besides the toads and absolutely no interesting mario RPG caliber dialogue? -Story does not make a game amazing. I cannot stress this enough. WHAT MAKES THIS GAME SO GOOD!? - Good level design, sharp platforming...you know, the things that made Sunshine great. I hear people talking about how the level design is good and how it feels fresh - whoa whoa whoa. Fresh? Stop listening to those idiots. This thing is essentially what 3D land should have been. but I haven't heard anything which would make me interested in it. I hear the multiplayer is good, but no one around my local area will want to play it with me. Is it merely just a nostalgia trip done effectively? - Maybe. We're all prone to it, but if Admin is calling it good, that means something. I don't know, I rarely do this but I may have to wait to hear Zero punctuation's opinion on the game before I make any decision to spend time and money on it. - You mean the guy who likes calling everything a twat and seems to hate everything? Yeah, that's a good place to go. I miss Bowser Jr, Count Bleck, the shadow queen and child like, hopeless Bowser... - Then go back and fill yourself with Paper Mario nostalgia and stop raging here. Stop acting like a hypocrite while you're at it. Plus, how much did the Shadow Queen even do? She was there for no more than 20 minutes. So, I unlocked Rosalina. It's a good thing she's a post-game character, because she makes every other character except Toad pointless.
