I should look for Sol. I need to keep my love and my enemy close. Besides, I went a little overboard yesterday, I think. So I need to focus my mind on something other than revenge. My memories are hazy, almost unreal. Perhaps none of it happened after all.
Well, it did happen. Unfortunately I can't block it out. As I walked outside, the dead bodies that didn't smell in this timeless air can attest to that. At least let them smell bad, they don't even have any flesh wounds. I might end up dehumanizing them further if I'm not careful. I might forget.
As I exited the block, I saw a sight that filled my heart with mixed feelings of hope and dread. Trinity was standing among the fallen citizens, as if waiting for me. She looked rather different to how she did the last time I had seen here.
... Cipher, did you kill these people?
The oppressive sunlight reflected on her glasses, hiding her eyes and reflecting upon me. Blinding me, as though I were vermin being disinfected by righteousness.
I... you saw what they were like. I put them out of their misery.
Then why did you enjoy it so much! You... You idiot! Words simply cannot express how... angry I am!
All I could do was stare back coldly at her. I couldn't turn away. I couldn't show weakness. I had to admit to her what I had done like a man. How I had killed these people, how I had declared vengeance, and how I had tried to join the other side. I did that. It seems unreal, but it happened. Trinity knows this.
Y-your appearance changed again. Your hair is silver and your right eye is yellow... just like Sol's.
I was silent. I had no idea what this business about my appearance was. Talking about it wouldn't get me anywhere.
No one else can see you the way I do... and I think I know why that is. It reflects the balance of magic between the sun and the moon, and it also reflects your desires. What is going on in your head, Cipher? Shouldn't a yellow and a blue eye represent the best traits of humanity?
I don't know what it is. All I know is that I despise Luna. Give her to me, Trinity, so that I may save you form her.
I held out my hand, as though beckoning to her. But instead she turned away, and held her hands against her chest, clutching her heart as though she were protecting it.
No! I am not letting you have your way! If I let you kill Luna, it would be as though I approve of everything you've done!
They're dead anyway! If I don't go through with my declaration, then all those people will have died in vain!
They died in vain anyway!
I felt my eye begin to twitch in anger, and I let my arm drop. Clearly there was no other option.
I'll have to keep you near me, then, until nightfall. I've done terrible things, I admit, but I can protect you. And, I can return this world to normal. We'll live like how we used to.
You don't get it do you? The world wont ever be back to normal. The goddesses wont allow it, and, even if they were to leave... they're already dead.
She spread out her arms, drawing attention to everyone around me. I bit my lip, feeling bitterness well up in my chest at her true and well placed take down. It was what she said next that threw me over the edge.
I don't think I love you anymore, Cipher. I'm not even sure if you're Cipher anymore. Stay away from me. Any of me.
She began to walk away, considering that her finished argument. But I couldn't simply leave her be. Not even Luna would survive nightfall by herself with organized villains like Wolley roaming about.
... Sol, awaken. Please. I desire your presence.
What?
I was holding back tears. I didn't know what to expect. All I knew was that I didn't want to show weakness, and I didn't want to leave Trinity alone. If she didn't love me, that's fine. But that doesn't mean I wont stop loving her! And if I have to bound her soul in chains to do so, then that's what I'll do!
I was lucky to have my wish granted, as Trinity fell to the ground and slowly transformed into the person I know as Sol. It would have been a more relieving moment if it weren't for Trinity's look of defeat as she was pushed back inside her own body.
Oh, so you worked that out then.
What? And how did you know what I did?
I try to stay awake during the day... I saw that exchange, and I am thankful that you brought me to the surface. You don't seem to understand just how much you truly control, Cipher. You can choose to waken any two of the three souls inside of Trinity, based on the time of day. I didn't want to mention it earlier in case you called back Trinity... but calling me back has increased my magic. You hopefully wont be seeing Luna for a long time.
Why not? Just let me inside you. I'll destroy her soul and you'll win this bet, it's a win win situation.
That wouldn't be playing fair. Besides, Luna is my sister! We may have conflicting views and a few roughspots in our relationship but I still love her!
I'm sorry. So what are you going to do with me?
You are in no fit state to make any decisions. Your desire to kill Luna creates a very difficult situation. Your hatred for Luna means rejecting her world... however your actions and hate very clearly thrive and take advantage of a world of chaos. In other words, your heart is chaotic, but your mind is telling you to choose anything but.
Luna betrayed me. Luna has also killed many. By, um, 'removing her from the picture' I would become an agent of justice, helping to keep order. I've gone overboard but I'm clearly on the side of good.
As justice itself I remind you that I never asked for your help. Look I...
Sol looked down, unable to finish her sentence. I forgot that she was rather shy. She wasn't raising her voice or acting any differently to a regular person, really, but that feat alone reminded me that this is probably the most agitated I've ever seen her. Everyone seemed to be pissed off at me. I would have thought it would be natural but... perhaps I need to rethink some things. My mind seemed clear but I suppose Trinity just left me for a reason.
Are you ok?
Sol appeared to have noticed before I had that I was shaking. I think that the dam holding back my emotional waters was about to burst. I'd either start wailing, or kill something.
Cipher don't try to... huh?
In a sudden change of mood, Sol looked up to see a moving human watching us from above.
...
He held up what looked like a long, golden thread, then moved out of sight.
Hey please get... Cipher, quick! That man was carrying sunlight!
The stuff she had made her cloak out of? Did I really want her to get that back? I felt myself wracked with indecision. I don't know what's right anymore... a part of me just wanted to go back to bed. No, even that was too far. I wanted to fall down where I was standing and let emptiness take me. But I had to stay close to Trinity, and Sol wasn't going to be dissuaded. That man was also mysterious. Perhaps I needed the distraction.
Besides, if I wanted to be empty, then perhaps Sol's world would be ideal...
1) Chase the man with Sol
2) Leave well alone and fall asleep
3) Go and build barricades and find soldiers for the coming evening
