I quickly tried to figure out where we should go. The police's job is to handle things, and since time has already stopped, that doesn't prevent any other crazy things from happening. Might want to barricade myself in the school in case monsters attacked. I hit myself when I realized the obvious. Trinity, I had to check on Trinity. I tried to put out of my mind the idea that she was also frozen, permanently sick.
There's someone I we need to see.
I understand.
Sol seemed somewhat frail, so even though I wanted to start running, I decided to keep in pace with her careful, dainty footsteps. Trinity wasn't the only human who mattered on this planet, much as I acted in ignorance of that fact while I was growing up. I could only hope that Trinity wasn't suffering too much. I had nothing better to do, and I was honestly curious about this stranger.
Sorry to drag you around like this, Sol, I'm sure you must have family you want to check up on...
Not... really. My only living relative lives quite far away from me.
So, are you living with a friend right now, then?
Sol looked downwards with downcast eyes, smiling a weak smile not really directed at anyone. I could tell that I was making her feel uncomfortable.
We soon reached Trinity's house, however. The door was unlocked, but trying to twist the doornob and push it open was like moving through tar. Everything was so much heavier in this state, everything locked in place. Even gravity didn't affect things particularly strongly.
Trinity!
When I got in, I saw that her parents weren't moving. I feared the worst, so I instinctively cried out, of course. Sol walked in slowly, and did and said nothing but track me carefully with her bright, fearful eyes as I ran all around the house trying to look for Trinity. She wasn't in bed, which was where I was hoping to find her. My anxiety grew as I eventually came to accept the fact that Trinity wasn't anywhere in or near the house.
...
Please, don't look at me like that.
She withdrew away from me like a wilting sunflower as my calm gave way to fear, which ended in a burning gaze which she felt must have been directed at her. I didn't know what was going on- I was willing to blame anything or anyone at this point. I'd blame myself but... what did I do to deserve this? Did my good fortune for the past month need to be karmatically balanced with all of this?
You know something, don't you? About Trinity, about this entire world right now... you will tell me or so help me...
I don't know what you're talking about I- I don't know anything!
Cut the bull. You asked me if I liked this world, that was the very first thing you asked. Don't go back on that now. I'd even go so far as to say that you're behind all of this.
I'm just as scared as you are! I just found myself here and I met you and...
She was crying. I immediately shut up and decided not to press the issue. I didn't know if she was lying or not but I'm not willing to push her this far on a gamble.
I'm sorry. If you remember something, please tell me. Anyway, I'll help you through this, so come on, we should hurry.
Why should we hurry?
Because she could be anywhere by now! She's probably out there by herself, afraid and lonely. As her boyfriend, and perhaps as a gentleman in training, I must find her.
*Giggle*
What? Umm, did I say something funny?
I'll say! A gentleman in training, huh? This isn't the 18th century you know!
I grimaced as she began giggling more. It was a soft, quiet giggle that lightened my spirits, even if the joke was at my expense.
We left the house, but I had no idea where to start. Following on from my previous line of thought, we headed to the police station and found no luck, then the school following that. I couldn't find Trinity anywhere.
I think we should call it a day...
Indeed, the sun somehow seemed to be setting, and Sol looked even weaker than before. As night fell, I felt a weight coming off of my body as time started to slowly return to normal.
You know... for the most part, I enjoyed today. I understand how difficult this must be for you... but, you must have realized how few worries there were today. No humans mean no commitments like school or home life. No time means no deadlines. We may not have found your special friend but, well, you had all the time in the world. Listen I... want to talk to you again, in this peaceful place.
I knew at this point that she must know something. I clenched my fists, but I calmed down as I looked into her eyes. So calm, so pure. They weren't like a puppy's eyes, trying so hard to invoke sympathy, but rather, her eyes were more like a reflection into the innocent parts of my soul. She didn't even need to try.
Did you find today... peaceful?
