Hey, keep your head in the game Cipher!
I had been daydreaming as I played Gotcha force, one of Trinity's favorite games. It still seems unbelievable that after all these years, I finally started going out with her only a month ago.
Sorry. Don't think I'm going easy on you.
Don't act like you're all that, you're down to your last borg!
I laughed brazenly, and gritted my teeth in a comical fashion. I had fun with this game, but this was her thing, really. I just wanted to spend time with her. I still remember that growing feeling I had had over the years since I had first met Trinity at age 8, a next door neighbor who had quickly taken a shine to me. She taught me a lot and formed me into who I am today, but she never saw me as anything past a friend. Romance was above her, but me? As puberty sat in I simply turned into a hopeless romantic, until my life was merely a thin facade of cool covering a gnawing, empty desire that grew each time I looked at her. Then a month ago, age 17, I worked up the courage to invite her with me to the school festival. I still remember the fireworks bright in the sky like fairy's spreading magic dust of joy, how the lake glistened like starlight, but ah... that doesn't matter much. Point is, it was so romantic, so perfect- it was the best night of our life as we kissed under a huge, full moon. For the past month, even Trinity's other admirers, parents, teachers, all admitted that we made a very good couple- we didn't show each other off, but we spent lots of time together in and out of school. It was, and still is, a healthy romance.
Where do your thoughts go? It's like I'm fighting the CPU here!
I was low on health, so I had already lost, but even so I decided that a last ditch effort would be worth it. I managed to dodge her precise and fast attacks and take down her current borg, however the sirius she brought out next quickly defeated me.
Not quite as out of it as you thought, huh?
*Sigh* Your hopeless. But this is why I love you, you can always find new ways to surprise me.
The next day started off like any other. I was walking to Trinity's house so that we could take our regular walk to school, but at the door, Trinity's kindly mother told me that Trinity was feeling sick with a fever. I was confused, since she seemed fine the previous day, and I felt on top of the world. I reached the school gates and... well, it was rather abrupt. It feels almost anti-climactic to simply shrug off the event in a single sentence.
The sun grew larger, golden, the rays more intense, and in a moment, a huge pillar of light struck the earth, it was like something out of an anime. Time seemed to freeze. I no longer felt the gentle spring breeze on my skin, no longer heard the sounds of classmates, cars, or animals, my body felt weightless and the world, while unchanged, still felt empty as I looked at it. It was as though time had come to a complete halt. My suspicions were confirmed as I looked around. Everyone, including some of my friends, had frozen. Not in ice, or in stone, but they had simply stopped moving. My previous guess seemed all the more accurate as I eyed trees that didn't sway, water that didn't run- Was I the only person still moving? The only... anything?
Do you like it?
Who's there? Do you know what's going on?
I looked around until I saw another living being, clearly animate. She was standing on the same bridge that me and Trinity fell in love on... in fact, she looked kind of similar to her. But how would that be possible? Trinity was sick, and wouldn't have time to change her hair or eye colour...
Ahh, I apologize. My name is Sol. What is yours?
Cipher. And I don't believe you answered my question- what is all this?
I don't know.
But she...!
In any case, I appear to be lost. Cipher, I... I'm scared, this is all so weird and...
I realized her voice was quivering, like she was about to cry as she spoke those words. I didn't have the time for doubt... I needed to stick by those who were still alive. Someone had to know all the answers. I walked over to her, this new person named Sol.
Lets stick together alright? I think I should phone home. What's your number?
Number...? I don't have one of those. Unless you mean my favorite number... that would be 50,408.1. It just has such a nice ring to it for some reason...
I was looking at my phone as she spoke and I noticed that it didn't respond to input, the screen flashed white but it didn't look like it wanted to load. This situation got worse by the moment.
My cell isn't working anyway. So...
I can come with you?
Why the hell not.
I found myself remaining strangely calm despite all this. I wasn't a huge Otaku but... I had still seen all of this sort of thing before. Apocalyptic events, apparently amnesiac and incredibly cute girls, it felt strange to say that this all felt surprisingly normal, I'd even go so far as to say routine. Despite that, nothing would be achieved by panicking. Perhaps some people are at their most calm in the face of doom. My first thought was that we couldn't stay here. We needed to find out what happened, go somewhere, anywhere, but where?
End of Chapter! And now question time because I am incredibly tired.
1) Find the nearest police station
2) Hide in the school
3) Visit Trinity at her house to see if she is ok
