Mine is Wii Sports. It might sound kind of stupid but when I got in 2006 I played the tennis game in it a lot, and once I got pro status in the game I decided to go try tennis in real life. I ended up loving it and I made the varsity tennis team at my high school my junior year.

An assortment of video games with non-video-game-music music introduced me to a bunch of bands I would otherwise never have started listening to. ...That's about it. Also this thread's in that gray area where it's about other video games and stuff that is not itself video games and my moderation sense is confused.

I'll leave you to take the initiative on this. I played and I also own a copy of the original super mario bros for the NES. (I played it on the VC though since I don't own an NES) Without a doubt the most influential game of all time. Whats that? Pong? How long did the industry last before a crash with pong on the market? How many games do you see with the pong format compared to 2D side-scrollers which still go strong today? That's what I thought. It phoenix Downed the industry and it has been changed for the better ever since.

I'll leave you to take the initiative on this. ...There are several things wrong with this, it's pretty hilarious. Speaking of things that could be categorized as wrong, Pong had as much to do with 1983 as New Super Mario Bros. had to do with the modern-day FPS fixation. That's a logical fallacy I couldn't identify if my life depended on it. Also there's not really much else to even do with Pong, so I guess that's a valid point. Another valid point: the idea of this thread was personal influence. Hence the personal anecdote about how Wii Sports Tennis led danschemen to the high school tennis team. If this were about influences on video games as a whole the only correct answer would be Magnavox Odyssey Table Tennis.

If it counts (an MMO), I think I'd go with Ragnarok Online. Everything about that game is just amazingly memorable, and adventures on it with friends are rather influential memories. Unforgettable towns, places, dungeons, and music... It's so open-ended, with free exploration from the start, and no real goal, so you just do what you want and sometimes meet people along the way. I think it's the one MMO that truly feels like your own adventure story. And even now, I remember things from the past such as one friend I had, they were a mage and I thought they were awesome and really looked up to them, and now I'm always a mage in games... Also, unrelated, I'd say Monster Hunter is a close second for similar reasons.
For games with an actual story and all, I would say Devil May Cry 3, I think it really was a turning point to how I am socially. Also Final Fantasy VIII, for character traits/development, and Grandia II... Not entirely sure why, but it's one of the clearer memories of m childhood.

The original Legend of Zelda. It was the first video game I played and defined what I find fun about video games. Exploration Adventure Challenge RPG elements

Super Monkey Ball. The amount of determination, in games and in real life, I found from this game when I put my mind to it, is absurd. This game just...I played this game almost every minute I had to play games and not do work for about 6 months of my life. However, let me just point out that I will never play this game again most likely. I now despise this game with all of my being.

Pokemon yellow. I had a level 100 pikachu, that game taught me to only need one pokemon, and that its type didnt matter because for everything that isnt weak/effected by elec there is slam.

Not ashes pikachu XD.
Id say though that yes a golurk probably would, however at lvl 100, none of the in game trainers could compete, because they max out at actually i want to say in emerald the max trainer level cap was like 80? I know in gsc it was 81 with reds pikachu, but no in game trainer to my knowledge has a lvl 100. In silver i had two. Ho oh and typhlosion, they were unstopable XD.
also id say minecraft is a prettt influetial game for me, as it is basically a blank slate that i can use for idea building. And all the mods and stuff are fun XD

To completely interrupt a pointless debate... One of the other big influential games that I played was Adventure and Adventure 2 for the Atari. (here is an LP of Adventure 1 for those who want it) www.youtube.com/watch?v=lI85roQ0U2UYou can beat Adventure 2 in about 20 minutes if you're lucky and know what you are doing. This game, as basic as it is, has induced an extreme range of emotions in me. Fear, anger, laughter, sorrow, fulfillment/satisfaction. It is an excellent game, and because of it I have noticed that my standard for video games shifted. Not only do I play them for fun, but I also look for games that will emotionally involve me.

That debate ended ages ago dilly. Lol
Emotional envolvement? I really dont have influetial games like that.
Though now that i think about it halo 3 odst was a tad emotional, and it showed me that you can tell a story from multiple perspectives and it can be cohesive. So it was "influential" in that respect.
