It seems the scene(s) with her in short hair is some sort of flashback. When she's donning her suit, you can see she has long hair.  |

I just hope they don't turn it into a full-action game and leave out the exploration part which signifies Metroid.

I read about it, its supposed to be a mix of 2d and 3d, jumping back and forth, theres some interview on ign about it, they are kinda aiming to explore samus story more, its after super metroid and before metroid fusion.
