The new sun rose quietly over the wispy clouds, dispelling the darkness of the early hours and shining across the humble village of Ashwood.
As Dawn approached, Ven could feel the new rays of light land on his bony cheeks, they illuminated the grass around him, and there was a breeze so gentle that not a single of the fallen leaves were stirred.
Above was the impressive Ashwood tree, it's tall branches unobtainable but comforting, shading Ven slightly and providing him with a view of pattern like beauty from the light between it's golden leaves.
Next to him sat Lilly, unlike Ven sleeping on the grass next to it, laid asleep against the trunk of the tree. Resting against fine, somewhat smooth bark and covered in fallen leaves curtsy of the previous night, like a comforting embrace.
Ven found himself warmed but also somewhat panicked, as he realized that they had to return home.
Ven brushed off some dirt from his brown attire and crawled over to Lilly, placing his rough but boyish hand on her clean shoulder and nudging her slightly. She didn't respond at first.
"Hey. Lilly. You got to wake up, it's dawn." He said in a quiet voice so as not to startle her.
She slowly opened her eyes and looked at him sweetly with green as the grass eyes.
Ven broke eye contact and stood up, extending his hand which she took to hoist herself up.
"Do we have any jobs today?" She asked cheerfully as she began walking down the mountain, holding up her long blue dress slightly to avoid dirt. She didn't seem to be recovering at all from any sort of sleep deprived state.
"I don't know yet. Is a friday... there is always the chance we'll be picking crops..." He responded vapidly.
"Not milking the cows? We normally do that on a friday." Responded Lilly, looking back and placing a hand on the wooden hand rail as it got more steep.
Ven started following and got down to her before continuing the conversation.
"I really don't like the cows..." He finally stated.
Lilly looked away, rolling her eyes.
The village of Ashwood in which nearly all of it's residence had spent their lives in was a quiet little place, not particularly developed to any great degree, a farming village really, detached from the rest of the world of Reverie and it's small kingdom Vale, it's only noteworthy feature being the Ash tree which the town is named after, a tree from legend at which a great hero supposedly stabbed himself, allowing his lifeblood to spill upon it's soil in either in an act of despair or a sacrifice allowing Ashwood to remain a place of peace so long as the tree stood. At least, thats how some interprate it.
Ven and Lilly sat in their small cottage, eating breakfast, idly chatting and looking over their schedule for the day.
"Yay! We get to milk the cows!" Squealed Lilly in glee.
Ven was not as impressed.
"I hate your parents sometimes. Always off selling things at the market, sticking me with odd jobs. Makes me wish I had some rich parents living at the vale or something so I didn't have to work as much." He mumbled to himself more than anyone, as Lilly wasn't listening.
"Alright, meet you at the barn in 10 minuets." She said, quickly changing subject and moods and leaving quickly with a bucket. Maybe she had been listening.
"She shouldn't be so sensitive... my parents probably wouldn't have been very useful people anyway." He said as he quickly finished up the bread he had been taking his time over and followed her to the barn to help her milk the cows.
Hours past, there was idle chatter as the two worked almost alone together. As Ven looked over at Lilly while they both worked, he felt a sort of comfort, one he never felt when he wasn't around her. And he was always around her, virtually since birth and for 16 years since. She was like a mother, only not annoying because they were the same age. Ven could definitely feel the difference not only when she was missing, but also when she was around, like someone very much aware of the thick and comforting blanket smothering their head all the time.
Dusk soon approached, and the milking of the cows, taking all the bottles over to the storehouse, having lunch, stopping for breaks, going for walks, preparing for dinner, eating dinner, all with Lilly- as dusk approached the two headed up the hill.
They sat together under the stars. Bright and shining, spotting constilations, familiar ones and looking for new ones. Finding their favorite star and looking at it all night long.
"You think those stars are other worlds?" Asked Ven after a long and peaceful silence.
"hmm... never really thought of them like that. Just pretty lights." Responded Lilly rather simply.
"They represent possibilities to me. Perhaps they're all identical to this one but subtle in different ways. Maybe, there is one where... I don't know, where I don't have to work so hard?" He asked.
"You mean you don't like working with me?" Asked Lilly raising her voice jokingly.
"No, I-" Ven stuttered, attempting to correct a flaw.
"Hahaha! I'm just messing with you. Imagine that. Imagine being able to see waterfalls and mountains larger than this one, trees bigger than ours, towns bigger than ours or even cities! I truly see all that when I see the stars. But I've never thought of other worlds before." She said, smiling.
Ven turned on his side to look at her, she did the same. Those green eyes against his brown, dull eyes, so full of life and potential.
The timeless moment in Ven's life was broken when he noticed something nearby. A soft light, radiant and white against the dark backdrop, it illuminated the Ash tree and sent leaves floating slowly upwards. It was graceful, wonderful, magical, slow.
Ven got up, and walked towards it. As he did so he found himself unable to see, the light now being too blinding. Ven however felt compelled to reach out and he felt skin against his hand, the light then stopped and a boy floated down and landed on the grace, his naked and bronzed body now looking like a normal human's as the light faded. Albeit an incredibly idealized one.
Lilly spied a look as it was unavoidable however Ven quickly picked the boy up, turning his back to Lilly so that the body would be hidden.
"We should get him back to the house." Ven said after a long while. He found himself less shocked by the turn of events than he should have been. Instead he took a while looking into the majstic face connected belonging to the boy he held in his hands. It was the face of a god, perfect and idealistic in every way. He had black hair that reached his shoulders and looked so perfectly groomed it looked like an artist had spent hours combing it. An artist could also have sculpted his face from the finest materials using the finest techniques. And Lilly had just seen more than the face. The entire perfect being, and Ven was holding it.
He began treading carefully down the mountain, making it a point to always stay a step ahead of Lilly who hadn't spoken a word. Rather she looked at the ground, presumuably unable to articulate her thoughts on what had just happened. This boy... this art, just appearing in a magestic light under a grand tree it's self underneath the endless stars.
