I'm wanting to watch this less and less. I watched .hack not too long ago and loved it, but this seems like a crappier version of it.

I'm afraid SAO will try to rush far to fast through it's material. Theres only three episodes so far with the 4th coming out tomorrow so it's not exactly like you have anything to loose. I have waited avidly for each episode and not read a word of the light novel. It's out every saturday. I prefer accel world but I watch this, and feel more inclined to because I only need to watch it once a week. I'm just incredibly disappointed that this is one of the most rushed anime's I've seen, and again, I have not read the light novel so thats just how rushed it is. Overall thats really my only complaint, music, characters, setting, animation, the basic story, all that stuff- great!

It is like this in the manga and novel series
The real plot will start after the fourth episode, i believe, since Asuna should be in it, meaning that it will nearly have caught up with the manga

I thought next one was another side story... which is a shame because I want Asuna to turn up again. Mainly because she's only been in one episode so far yet she features so heavily in the opening and endings. Also... Kirito's badass.

Ep 1-5 have all been side stories that were no part of the original novel.
Although, they are all very relevant in the grand scheme of things.
And for anyone who hasn't read the novels, it is been rushed considerably. The 1st ep wasnt bad, but the second one was strait rushed to hell. the 3rd and 4th covered most of the important parts, so they were not as bad.
The PV for the 5th ep gives me hope that it will be in two parts, as Murder Mystery in the Area was a LONG (and very important) side story.

about 10 hours after you posted? Cuz it is shown live in Japan during their Saturday nights. That is our Saturday mornings. so from getting rawrs, to getting it translated, to getting it typesetted and subbed, it can take some time. That said, ep 5 was spot on. The story, thank goodness, is continued into ep 6. otherwise, it would have really sucked, believe me. Here it is, take your pick on mirror though.

Interesting stuff. Fans of the light novel got their wishes, looks like the arc is being spread out over two episodes. However... I'm still wondering when the actual plot is going to begin. At least Asuna is back. It's been bugging me that she hasn't been anywhere considering she features so heavily in the opening and endings.

Judging from where they currently are in the story, ep 6 will contiune the current story, ep 7 will be yet another side story. Most likely start on ep 8.
And if I calculate correctly, another sidestory will be ep 10. But that one is like...120% relevant to the main story.

Isn't this series only 24 episodes long? This series is going to end up more side story than actual plot. I just want to find out whats going on and more importantly I want to see the games creator because I am seriously interested in his motives.

Correct, this is a 24 (most likely, I'm hoping for 26) ep series.
The thing is, a VA was announced with the rest of the main cast that doesnt show up till the 3rd and 4th light novels. All of SAO takes place in the 1st and 2nd light novels, with a chapter or two coming from volume 8, and some other side stories written after.
So that said, everyone who has read the novels has concluded that the episodes approximately starting at 13 will be about the 3rd and 4th novels.
But they are just approximations and guesses. Nothing more.

^ So wait... If I'm reading that correctly... the 3rd and 4th novels are not part of SAO? "All of SAO takes place during the 1st and second novels."

I'd be happy to tell you, granted if you dont mind spoilers. However, I have no knowledge if you really want it, and the fact that this forum layout lacks a spoiler tag means I can't anyways.
But if you really want to know, I would suggest reading the Light Novels. They are so much better than the anime. And I'm not saying that just to sway you, its true. More because you get more insight as to everything that is happening, and you get to know all the things that have been cut out.
Just my two cents.
