I used to watch the show... a lot, to say the least.
I kind of lost interest over time.
Then they started having reruns of some of the post-voice change stuff in the afternoons when I got home from school last year, so I watched it, and it was... surprisingly entertaining.
Now I watch it sometimes when it's on.

But I have to call them out on something.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Pikachu use Thunderbolt on Brock's Onix in the Pewter City gym battle and win with it?
And I saw the episode today with Ash's first attempt at the... Rock-type gym in Sinnoh, and they explicitly said that Thunderbolt would do nothing against Onix.
I have one response to that:

If they're going to ignore types for part of the series, they might as well do it for the full length, I think.

You know what I hate the most?
That Pikachu basically DOWNGRADES to level 1 when Ash goes to a new region.

I was very interested in it as a kid and was still interested when they went to Jhoto but I started to lose interest around halfway in the Honnen part, maybe it was because it seemed to get stale, or because I never had the channel to watch it. I have barely watched any of the 4th gen episodes although they have seemed interesting until I caught a glimpse of around the final episode....lets just say bull doesn't even begin to describe it.

I'll elaborate. So Ash is in the Pokemon Leauge and he finally has the rematch with Paul so many fans have waited for, and it is a very good fight where Ash wins. So Ash has finnaly have taught Paul the leason he rightly deserves and all is good...UNTIL the next match. Where Ash has to battle someone who uses LATIOS AND DARKRAI, TWO FRIGGEN LEGENDARIES!!! Who easily defeats Ash's whole team causing him to lose the Pokemon League... I mean, I know Ash always loses the Pokemon League which is a lesson to accept when you lose but my god, can't he just win for once, and he lost in the most bull way possible. I think the writers just didn't care anymore.

I am a little interested in watching the 5th gen though, but again I don't have Cartoon Network.

Back in Gen 1, dual types (In the show, and in the games) didn't exist, making Onix a ROCK type.
So therefore, that's how.
I think Brock just wanted to be an idiot to Ash, because he whooped Brock in Kanto.
