Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica

After hearing about how great this series was, I finally started watching it. I haven't quite finished it yet so I can't talk about the series as a whole, but what I've seen so far is pretty amazing.

It's only 12 episodes long. Go watch it!

I haven't seen it, I'm trying to find where I can watch the dub, but from what I've read of it, it sounds really interesting. I like how it takes a dark look at the whole 'magical girl' genre. But as a warning for anyone who's interested in it. It's to a magical girl series as Neon Genesis Evangellion is to a mecha series. And like NGE, this series gets really dark and disturbing at times.

Does anyone know where I can watch the dub?

Watchcartoonsonline I think, or something like that. Ran a quick Google search, and there was at least a working episode 2 there, so the rest should be there, too. It's under the name Puella Magi Magica Madoka. Yeah, I'm totally not watching it.

Yeah, Puella Magi Madoka Magica is its English name, while Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica is a romanization of the Japanese. Or something like that.

Depends on how you translate the kanji, I believe.
but it also duels in meaning to the story.

"Puella Magi" almost, but not quite, translates to "Magical Girl". "Puella magi" literally means "Girl of the Sorcerer". This becomes a plot point when it's revealed that witches are fallen magical girls. "Magi", depending on the context, can be used in two ways: "Magician" or "Deceiver", the latter of which is the closest derivation. The series' title can be thus be translated as Girl of the Deceiver, Magician Madoka.

Interesting, though somewhat spoilerific. Another reason why the title is pretty cool.
