2015, world war III. America has gone to war with the soviets, with the chinese, the british, and the germans involved along many other superpowers.
The world is in chaos.
The only place seeing relative peace is most of the heartland of America, away from the fighting.
In the countryside, in the newly built village of Garland, the people dont have to worry so much about the fighting.
The children going to Gar High are enjoying the last day of their school year.
But dark clouds loom overhead...
"WAKE UP! SHIRRRRLEY BREAKFAST!" Yelled a voice.
Shirley groggily opened her eyes.
"COME ON! YOU CAN HAVE ALL THE LIE INS YOU WANT AFTER TODAY SO GET READY, ITS YOUR LAST DAY!" Yelled the voice again.
"Coming Mum!" She called down. Shirley got out of bed and got changed into her school uniform, black with a short blue skirt and a white tie. She took the comb with her and was brushing her long, shiny brown hair that went down the length of her back as she ate.
"Dear oh dear, you'll get milk all over you! Put that comb down and eat properly." Said her mother, wiping the table where Shirley had spilt milk.
"Sorry. My bad." Said Shirley, still tired. She finished up and left the house for school.
It was a short trip, she ran but she was earlier than she thought.
At the gates was a boy looking very nervous.
"Umm... Shirley-" He began.
"Yeah James? I'm in a hurry I have to hand in an assignment." She said, she continued running on the spot.
"Well, uh, we've been good friends for a while, and... I LOVE YOU! PLEASE GO OUT WITH ME!" Yelled James, getting on his knees.
"Oh, dear... I'm not sure what to say... I'm not ready for a relationship, sorry James. She gave him an apologetic kiss on the cheek and dashed off.
"Damn." Said James, left behind in the dust. He stroked his cheek where she had kissed him.
Later, it was raining outside and things were looking dismal for a last day of the school year.
Shirley walked into her final class of the day and overheard students talking.
"Damn, another one shot down, to think, she has the pick of the best." Said a gossipy girl.
"Yeah, oh well, she got me the same way. Guess she'll be the one to make the first move." Said the boy.
Shirley looked at them and blushed, very embarrassed.
"I just dont want a boyfriend, thats all..." She mumbled as she sat down.
The lesson was dull.
Then, the rain began to fall even heavier than before.
Shirley had lost focus and was staring out of the window, when she saw a blue light in the distance.
"Whats that?" She mumbled. She squinted at the light as it got bigger and brighter.
Suddenly, thats when hell broke loose.
A bullet, looking like it was cloaked in blue flames, zipped through the window, narrowly missing shirley and clipping her head, and hit a boy on the other side of the room square in the head. It was brilliant and shocking marksmanship from an unknown assailant.
Shirley dashed over to him, the class joker and most respected boy in the school, by both teachers and students.
"Damn!" She yelled, very angry.
"Calm do-own.... classes, its just a- a..." The teacher began, he continued stuttering then ran away.
"Its a german attack! Why would they attack Garland!" Yelled a student, reaching conclusions.
"ITS A RAID! A RAID! RUN ITS EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF!" Yelled another, the class went into uproar as he yelled it, and they all squabbled, pushed, and shoved to get out of the building, in blind terror.
When Shirley had got outside, terrified out of her mind, she began to run.
A floating ship, covered in guns and heavily plated in metal and a blue gas seeping out of it, flew overhead, it was so large it blocked out the sky.
From the deck of the ship, armoured soldiors, so heavily clad that not a piece of flesh could be seen, jumped down and landed, without a scratch, no parachutes or ropes. The fall was inhuman to survive. They had the same blue gas seeping out of them.
"Shirley. Level 2. A keeper?" Asked one, in a deep and metallic voice.
"Yes. We'll see." Said the larger and supposed leader. Quick as a flash, he pointed at her and fired from his index finger the same bullet that had already killed once today. Shirley, wide eyed and tongue tied, gasped as the bullet hit her square in the chest, her heart. There was no blood. No pain. She lost all senses except sight, and she saw a hooded black figure holding a scythe pick her up in her last moments.
