...the original Super Mario Bros for the NES? I just tried it and made it to 3-1 without getting hit, then got game over without getting to 3-2. The fact that they only give you 2 lives is absurd.
Of course, the only reason I tried it was because I wanted to go to the Minus World. Which I did. After I looked it up and found out that it's in 1-2, not somewhere later on with a platform moving to the right.
Which reminds me. Is World 9 a real thing? I would try beating the game without warping to find out, but I suck at it...

Aye, but I haven't played the 8-bit version in ages. I was actually looking for that cartridge just the other day, but couldn't find it. Instead, I've been playing the SNES version in All-Stars. That version has no World 9, so I bet the 8-bit version didn't either.
The Lost Levels (the real SMB2) had an extra world though, and that game was one of the most grueling games I've ever played.

Yeah, Lost Levels is obscenely brutal. But I think I either beat it or almost beat it in one night the last time my brother tried playing it. I was feeling a bit competitive, so I tried racing him to the finish, only I guess it only half counts because it was in an emulator. I didn't rewind or any of that, though.
I need to try the 8-bit one.

^ yeah, I beat SMB 8-bit, with and without Minus Zones. There are actually 3, incase you don't know. one in 1 - 2 one in 3 - 2 and one in 4-2
1-2 can take you to worlds 2,3,and 4 3-2 can take you to worlds 6,7, and 8. 4-2 can take you to world 5.
as for Lost levels, possibly the most grueling game ever. Especially if you run into the Minus Zones in THAT game. you wanna know what they do? They take you BACKWARDS in worlds. I believ there's one in World 8.

^And that's not even the worst part. The worst part is that 2-2 exists. That level is a load of bulls***. Basically, at the part I can't beat you have an un-jump-over-able bottomless pit with a pipe WAY above it, near the top of the screen. There's (as far as I can tell) one invisible block that's just high enough that you need a running start to get on top of it, and just low enough that you also need a running start to get on the pipe. But with the screen not going left it's almost impossible to get a good enough running start to get up there, and it's even harder to keep that running start to get on the pipe. And if you go past that block even a step, you're screwed. Have fun jumping off that cliff, aaaand we'll see you in 30 seconds when you come back. What's that? You died twice on the way here? Oh, well that's too bad. Looks like you're going back to 2-1! I am going to find whoever made this stupid level and- Oh, wait, never mind, I beat it. ...And now I'm dead in 2-4.
