Started watching code breaker but it didn't hold my interest.
What do I recomend? Check out my sig. Fullmetal alchemist: Brotherhood, Steins;Gate, Puella magi madoka magica, gurren Lagann and welcome to the NHK are what I recomend among others. Going by what I think not everyone has seen yet. Tales of the abyss the animation, too.

To not list a bunch of mecha animes...
Spiral, Tears to Tiara, and Busou Renkin for non-mecha. But actually, I'd suggest Star Driver or King Gainer too, since they're very different from most mech animes.

Can't avoid tsunderes. I hate all but one, maybe two tsunderes.

Give me a break, I could call just about anything you like cliche, too. You can't even call mecha cliche... It's a genre. It's like saying anime is cliche because it's anime... Oh wait, it is. Come on, anime in its entirety is pretty much cliches, and you can't even argue that there's at least a hundred more animes full of school cliches than there are mecha animes.
I'm not sure if this is a 'thing,' but I'm getting some deja vu with how you irrationally tried to mix me into the 'most overrated thing ever' wagon with that one song before, and now this.

A "thing", huh? Like how you swear I'm constantly temprarily obsessing over something then drop it entirely? That wasn't the point I was making. 2) I just said "besides tsunderes." I was not mixing you into a "most common" sort of thing. Mech really isn't a genre, it's usually what people slap into a series for action. I'm not dissing mech in any way, it's simply overused. Highschool setting, tsundere, andclumsy male lead are all also very overused cliches. And just let me say, I hate all four of those, except for sometimes mech and rarely tsundere. Relax, jeez.

Calling me a fan of the most cliche thing to ever exist is essentially grouping me into something common and generic. But... Mecha really is a genre. That's what "mecha" is, the term for mech anime. Still, I don't think you're really trying to be fair here. 'Slap' mechs into something for action? Even if you don't mean to diss it that's a pretty demeaning way to put it. Doesn't pretty much any anime with action slap on something for it? Inhumanly acrobatic people, impractical forms of attack, swords and guns, magic, superhuman powers... Mechs are just another medium.
It's fine if you don't like it, but honestly, cliches are something inescapable in anime, and media in general. The thing is, it's not like mechs show up as cliches everywhere throughout animes, they're generally set in their own genre.
And more deja vu, always telling me to relax when we have a discussion...
Edit: Oh, and you know by now I'm usually just sarcastic... About pointing out how you have obsessions and 'dropping it entirely', I just said it was a joke... Of course, all of us have temporary phases of whatever is relevant at the time. But you're one of the more vocal people here, so it's just an ongoing joke, that's all it is...

I'm pretty sure 'mech' classifies as a genre. Mechs usually come with a sci-fi setting, which completely shifts the setting and thus dynamics of the story, it's own set of morals and characters and plot devices like 'oh no. My mech is missing.' or something. Not to mention completely different art styles and action sequences. I remember the japanese liked mechanical things back in the past because they were easier to animate than people, as in the animation was stiff and whatnot so it looked more realistic on mechs. Magic powers is also it's own genre, 'supernatural' 'magic' even 'Shonen' could classify as such and they each come with their own individual story dynamics, although they're generally more flexible then mechs. Wouldn't see a mech in many places besides sci-fi, magic men can be just about anywhere. (Xenogears has mechs in a typical tales-esc fantasy world though...) Anyway Steve just watch what you say in future. I know you generally like to stick to your guns and while I'd love to take a few pot shots from my current position at this moment I think Claxus will defend himself nicely. I will say however that if you're going to make bold, sweeping statements like that don't try to brush it off as being a joke or try to justify it, either admit your wrong or, more likely, just defend your statement until the end. Although, too be fair, although Claxus never brought it into discussion, you did, I will say that the fact you usually talk about something your watching or playing, then make an avatar (Bowser for NSMBU, Was that thing from Avatar called Momo? I may be wrong but either way that thing, and many others throughout history although from my understanding you're not playing Kid icarus right now although you were quick to jump to viridi the first time... well, whatever it's happened enough.) will convicnce most of us that your scitsophrenically going through interests. I know I do, I blame it on teenage, hormone induced mood swings and since you seem to want to talk about something different as you play them... which makes perfect sense... I'll assume that you also go through similar experiences. Anyway, quite simply, I would recomend not doing that quite so often. It will stop people like me and Claxus getting the wrong idea. You may know it in your heart and only your own opinion matters (yadayada yawn that message in most eveything worth their salt these days is getting as old as 'eat your vegetables' isn't it?) but what you thin of yourself wont change how the world views you, so good luck with that. ... did I really write that much? Maybe I should focus on being less wordy...

^Eh? The bowser avatar had nothing to do with NSMBU. Anyway, this got annoying really fast so I just decided to shut up. I don't feel I'm wrong, it's my opinion, and I meant no offense. With that said, bye.

This may sound creepy but I wish I could just hug you right now! I felt like my life had come to a halt. Odd indeed... but I don't care... I've got such a warm feeling inside and I praise my own luck... I think I'm going to go sob somewhere for a while...

I have no idea what just happened here, after Al fought for me while I was in sandman land... Gotta tip my hat off to him. He explained everything pretty well. But on the other hand, I really don't have anything against you changing your avatar frequently. Like I said, you're just one of the more vocal people here, so I joked about your ever-changing interests. But really, Steve, you shouldn't be so quick to back down. Discussions help to understand each other better and reach a conclusion. Just because we disagree doesn't mean it's a bad thing, or an argument. If you really think mecha is the second most cliche thing ever, you should be able to discuss it. Now the thing is, sometimes opinion seeps into facts, and with the evidence we've given you, you just stepped down and refuse to accept anything we said. I think what you're doing is just the same as calling 'fantasy' or 'modern' cliche, and they are in a way. But it's a fact that those two other genres are much more prominent. I guess there's not much point to keep talking about this, though... But if nothing else, you should at least accept the fact that mecha really is a genre. Anime websites and whatnot always list mech animes as mecha.

You guys are so off topic, its hilarious.... but good discussion, I guess...
Anyways, for the hilarity inclined peeps I'd recommend... Hayate no Gotoku (I dont think I've ever watch something with comedy AND story. well, combined well anyways lies) Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou (I will admit to dying while watching this. I've even done some of the stuff they do...) Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi (you will never see fairy tales the same way) Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo (currently airing) Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu (I wish I went to this school.....No lie.)
For more of an action twist, I'd say.... Fate/Zero Hunter x Hunter (2011) (or the original, your choice) Soul Eater Jormungand / Jormungand: Perfect Order Fullmetal Alchemist / Brotherhood Katanagatari (No relation to the Monogatari series, besides the author)
Story, story, story. If you dont care much about cliches, or just like a great overall story, I'd say... Bakuman and all of its seasons (#1) The Monogatari series (Bakemonogatari, Nisemonogatari etc) Fate/Zero (getting a special re-mention) Baccano! and Durarara!! (written by the same guy, take place in the same universe) Kokoro Connect The To Aru series (Index/Railgun) Steins;Gate and Robotic;Notes (currently airing)
Darker? Hmmm...Lets go with.... Puella Magi Madoka Magica (Also known as Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica. Dont let the magic girl part fool you though...) Psycho Pass (currently airing) Deadman Wonderland (doesnt follow the manga 100%, from what I've heard) Mirai Nikki (this will make you think twice about dairies...)
Personal favorites recommendations? I'd say.... Angel Beats! (#1 recommendation. It has something for everyone. Literally.) Sword Art Online (for the gamer in all of us, Although I suggest reading the novels...) Guilty Crown Chrome Shelled Regios Darker Than Black (oh man, this series...where to start?) Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo? (currently airing.)
if you are wondering, I deliberately left out the Big 4 (or 3, w/e) and stuff that is pretty common knowledge (ie Death Note or something)...well some of them made it on anyways...bah whatever...

^+1 for Fate/Zero. Haven't gotten far enough in FSN to know exactly what, but I've heard Fate/Zero spoils Fate/Stay Night and vice versa since it's a prequel and all. Kokoro Connect was pretty good too. I hope the rest of the LN series gets adapted as well. Steins;Gate and Madoka, I think they're well known enough that I'm not needed here. Eh, Psycho Pass is currently airing? I thought it was a 2012 anime.

I added something I somehow forgot...Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu. Hilarity every minute, almost guaranteed ^+1 for Fate/Zero. Haven't gotten far enough in FSN to know exactly what, but I've heard Fate/Zero spoils Fate/Stay Night and vice versa since it's a prequel and all. Eh, Psycho Pass is currently airing? I thought it was a 2012 anime. Fate/Zero spoils pretty much everything in FSN. Unless you watch FSN to not get spoiled. but if you watch FSN, then Fate/Zero, a lot of things will make a bunch of scary sense. A lot of things. But the other way around, it's almost expected. And Psycho Pass is still airing. It has like 4 more episodes. But yes, it did start in 2012.

I don't really have time to watch anime on a regular basis, but I would definitely recommend "Monster" if you haven't seen it yet. It's more of a mystery type with a story more suited to adults than teenagers. I think it's also an example of how an anime can work without cliches. I've also seen an anime that's called "Haibane Renmei" a long time ago, and I remember it was one of the best I've seen, though I can't remember most of the story anymore (I'll rewatch if I have the time) Also obvious anime recommendations would be "Elfen Lied" and "Death Note". I think everyone knows these, but they are really essential and they haven't been named here. Bakuman and all of its seasons (#1) Mirai Nikki (this will make you think twice about dairies...) Sword Art Online (for the gamer in all of us, Although I suggest reading the novels...) I've seen these and I agree that Bakuman is definitely worth a watch. It's an anime/manga about anime/manga, that let's you look behind the scenes of a mangaka and their editor and all compiled into a fun story. Mirai Nikki has a really interesting idea and I like the anime to an extent, though sometimes it left me wondering how stupid and unrealistic some of the characters decisions were, but still an interesting watch. Sword Art Online has also a really really cool idea and it sucked me in for the first 10-15 episodes. But once the "first game" ended, it really fell flat and I kinda lost interest. I haven't read the novels though, so I can't say anything about that.
