Just wow. Riku: I like this- Al: I'mma let you finish, but that thing (and your opinion) is terrible. Not saying you have to like it, but no need tocompletely tear apart something someone else likes. We're on a site made by a poorly made game (a fun one), so I'd think that's obvious.

I, uh, never said he was wrong for liking the show. Imo needs to die as a thing. I could have made literally the same post word for word, but you wouldn't be complaining if I left an (Imo) at the end. Why does that stamp have to be absolutely everywhere, like some kind of warding charm? Hanging garlic in your house to stop the vampires from getting in.

No it's not. The thing is stating something as fact or an opinion is different. Saying outright that it's your opinion isn't always necessary, but it also does convey better understanding. And it's not uncommon an anime critics to abhor a series to the point where they think they're objectively correct. Like Steve saying the song of my life is the worst in the game obviously wasn't as adamant a statement the way he said it.

Well, I don't think I stated it like a fact, but whatever. Here:
"I don't believe in objectivity in regards to opinions and art criticism." - Alberenza 2014
Now this wont ever be an issue with me again, sorry. I don't follow anime critics who think they've found some kind of secret that makes their opinions right and thus superior.
In general though, I really do think Imo is often used in order to deflect opposing opinions. Well, most of the time, people just use it so that they don't come across as being a dick. But let me say my piece. I think that a core idea behind Imo is that anyone who challenges the mightiness of the abbreviation/phrase is automatically a jerk who thinks he's superior to you. Therefore Imo is a warding charm against invading vampires who need to suck your blood in order to function. But the individual's opinion isn't the only one that matters, I'm not a solipsistic. They have to be defended with arguments and evidence when challenged, otherwise they're essentially worthless- I want to know why people hold their opinions, I couldn't care less for the opinion itself. "I like this" tells me nothing. A simple 'because' makes all the difference. It's about constant self reflection, constant communication, and making constant attempts to understand the other person(s). The sad thing is, in the case of a lot of arguments on the internet, it's actually painfully true that an attack on Imo will be inflicted by an absolute prick. I'm so guilty of this that I'd be inclined to wear a mask out of shame in a hypothetical face to face encounter with you guys. Personally, however, I don't think that's any reason to instinctively turn on defense mode whenever your Imo is challenged. I don't always have the foreknowledge to forge a post that perfectly conveys the idea that I'm not trying to state an objective fact most of the time, I just want posts to sound snappy without having to think about what the reactions might be, especially considering that Riku wasn't even the one who got offended.
And no, I will never, ever start using Imo in its intended context- it feels like someone is banging a nail into the back of my head whenever I see it on page, (well, I do twitch and it briefly bothers me) but that's my problem.

Is it really so bad to use that ward? You're right, that's what IMO is used for. But not every opinion needs an argument or evidence, personal preference is kind of a thing. Is it so bad to state one's opinion in a way that's meant to be anti-provocative? Sometimes I just don't feel like being a street fighter.
I know you're you, but if it was someone else who had responded to Riku that same way, it would have seemed pretty demeaning.

I know you're you, but if it was someone else who had responded to Riku that same way, it would have seemed pretty demeaning. I don't think a debate should be like a street fight- but you're right, so often they become exactly that, and not every statement has to be spoken like an essay. People tie a lot of their identity to media and their opinions. I'll apologise to Riku though. EDIT: I suppose at the heart of what I want to say is that I think people should have more confidence in their opinions, not to present them like essays right off the bat, but to be able to defend them without feeling too offended or relying on shields like Imo to survive street debates. But yeah, burn that quote of mine into your skull, so that should the unlikely event come where I directly specify my opinion as being objective fact or otherwise get waaaay too aggressive with it as I have done many times in the past, you can burn it right back. But this is partly why I have a blog and why I'm presenting notes on FFVII, I want my thoughts to be interesting and entertaining to read and engage with, I don't want them to feel like an unpleasant chore. I consider writing my core skill that I hope to hone and develop throughout my entire life.

I don't know how the whole imo debate started since...nobody said it here, but hey, it works. Besides, the world needs practical people, otherwise the world would be full of dreamers with no aim. Practical people are like anchors, very confident in their opinions and very rooted in their beliefs. Also very cynical (I get that). That's all well and good. I was wrong to call you out on it though; if someone likes something, they like it. Other people's opinions shouldn't have to change that (plus you were technically reccommending Berserk). Kinda like how I'm incredibly fond of terribad games (I went to a local video game story a year ago and bought Sonic 06 and Superman 64 at the same time. The guy at the register just laughed.) I know they're bad. That's what makes them fun (also aside from random death glitches Sonic 06 is admittedly my favorite sonic game. Mach sections are really fun XD ) *rambling* totally lost track of my point.

Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de time! Ahh, I can get behind this. Has Hatoko blown up recently? I was wondering if there were more scenes worth catching up on.

Started at noon and finally finished watching this speedrun of Paper Mario; TTYD. I've seen a lot of speedruns, but none of them were funnier than this one. 6 hours of laughs and amazement. Al (I don't know who else has played TTYD), WATCH IT. Really, watch it. Some of the glitches are absolutely hilarious.

Flavio was the best part. Thanks for sharing! I also just realised that you linked to the video in your initial post. I didn't notice.
