I never find him useful, not even against Death Borgs...
His severely limited transformation time ruins most, if not all, his potential not to mention his limited use of the X beam.

It's not neccessarily the X, more like the B coughrainofpaincough that makes Gold Hero pretty good. That and he can melee quite well too. And he's fast. And it doesn't take THAT long to get back into beast mode.

Before transformation: jump as high as possible, air dash and spam the orbs of suck.

After transformation: I think you get your jumps back. Regardless, you're very high in the air. Immediately use your X beam, air dash and spam B. You can just get another X beam in before you are detransformed.

After detransformation: air dash and spam orbs of suck.

Rinse, repeat.
