I guess since I'm the only person to ever do a speedrun of the story I hold the record at 5:0038 I say it's 5:00:38 because I timed it but the in game time is actually less around 4:50:00 or something it just depends on what SDA takes. Part 3 still needs to be uploaded. Should take a couple of days to get it up.

I got 4:03 game time back in early 2011. (Though I did have the advantage of it not being a new file. Not sure if that counts.) I really should try to break 4 hours, now that I'm not incompetent at life like I was back then.

I saw this the other day. Congratulations on finishing this run. I've thought about strategies for a Story Mode run before, but I've never seriously considered doing one. I'll probably watch this run if you submit it to SDA. By the way, I think SDA will use the in-game timer. I got 4:03 game time back in early 2011. (Though I did have the advantage of it not being a new file. Not sure if that counts.) I really should try to break 4 hours, now that I'm not incompetent at life like I was back then. Using a pre-made file is definitely a separate category.

I was also thinking that there should probably be multiple categories like other games. Like New Game and New Game+.

I took a quick look at the run and it seems you did some optional battles like the Ultimate Cannon Unit. You won battles like the first Orochi battle that you're allowed to lose; in such cases, it would be much faster to throw the fight. Also, you kept checking the names of missions over and over. You even checked the same missions multiple times in a row. Finally, it didn't look like you were advancing through the "new borg" screens as quickly as possible. I doubt a run with those mistakes will be accepted at SDA. Here's what I suggest: - Determine exactly which battles need to be fought.
- Of those, determine which you have to win and which you can lose.
- Make a list of each battle you have to fight and whether you plan to win or lose. Keep the list next to you during your run attempts. If you don't know what battle comes next, refer to the list in the downtime after a battle.
- Press A and Start repeatedly after a battle ends to advance through the "new borg" and "new crystal" screens quickly.
Good luck.

Also new official fastest New Game+ time on record around here is 3:02. I really should try to break 3 hours, now that I'm not clueless like I was back when I started. Also I got a crystal Roach in the middle of it. Yay.

Press A and Start repeatedly after a battle ends to advance through the "new borg" and "new crystal" screens quickly. Should be exactly 2 Starts and 1 A per borg/crystal. Start to skip the Gotcha box animation, another start to skip the borg turning animation, and A to move on.

Good luck. Yeah the run was really crappy. I did somewhat of a practice run just to get the feel of what it be like, and I ended with a lot more gf energy on this run then the practice. I need to do some better route testing.

Good luck. i think that you should make 20 forces of ideal borgs for the fights like for heros. BOMB IT

I'm really wondering which parts of the game the in-game timer counts. The end of my run was under 5 hours according to the in-game timer but the timer I was using said it was almost exactly 5 hours. I went back and checked and the in-game timer was at 4:59:00 and the timer I was using was at 5:00:38 so the difference was actually way smaller then I thought.

Well it wouldn't make much sense to time how long you're sitting on the map screen ... I wanna try this now It probably won't go well but it'll be fun ^^'

I've been practicing NG+ and have been testing some strategies. What I'm working on right now is G Emperor. Is there a faster method to take him down than Drill Robot? I can sometimes get rid of him shortly after my first burst, but I typically build up enough for a second burst before he dies.

I know someone mentioned using large dragons to take down GE. No idea if it would be faster though.

GE is definitely easier with a giant dragon, but it's a good deal slower, unfortunately. I tried out a few other obvious ones, like metal hero and ones like samurai shogun, but nothing is comparable to drill yet. The amount of hits you get with all of the drills during burst combined with GE's lack of damage scaling is why he's so good. If there was a borg that could get a similar amount of hits in (counter maxes out at 999 in around two seconds) while either dishing out more damage per hit, or having an even faster attack rate, it would be better by far.

Some other obvious ones to test out are Titan Tank/Robot/Proto's Javelins.
Theoryguesscrafting: Drill Robot can fire 2 drills per reload, Titan Tank: 6 javelins per reload, and the Transformers: 2 javelins per reload/charge. In addition, the Titans have that launching animation whereas Drill Robot's drills just fly off his shoulder with almost no lag. I think that Drill Robot or Titan Tank would have the highest DPS, but I don't know exactly how their power and reload/charge speeds compare. I suspect that the Transformers javelins may be slightly stronger because they're large robots though.

Thanks for the suggestions! Titan Tank is the winner by around ten seconds! Drill Robot has similar (if not better) DPS, but it takes longer to destroy the shield around GE. Also, because Drill's attacks disappear upon contact with GE's shield, building up force takes longer because of fewer hits. You can position yourself behind the base of one of GE's eye lasers and build up force that way, but it still takes longer to break GE out than it does with Titan, who can do it in one shot and start dealing damage before force is full. I tried Titan Robot, and it is slower because the javelins are charges (it can't get good damage in early like Tank can). Death Saucer can start dealing damage faster than any of the others, but the delay between attacks is too large, and it gets beaten out by Titan and Drill. In other news: I found a use for Hammer Robot in the run! He dominates the early fights with Tama. You don't have enough GF to use dragons at that point, so 2 ICBM + Hammer is an effective combination. Haven't tried many other setups, though.

The run definitely isn't good enough to upload anywhere, so here's the archive from my stream: www.twitch.tv/iongravirei/c/2342834It's a good start. Ten minutes could be saved easily by not messing up with menus and with no unintentional losses. More can be saved by better play.
