R1:Match6: Sonic Samurai vs. Chrono Samurai

Time travel at the speed of sound! Today's match is between two samurai, Sonic Samurai and Chrono Samurai!

Sonic Samurai fights at the speed of sound. At a small cost of 330, he spins and slices his oppoents like mince metal! Wielding two large blades with words that say something in Japanese, he's cut down anyone who dared to come close!

Chrono Samurai controls time! With the ability to momentarily stop the grains of sand from dropping below, he can hit any opponent with ease, no matter how fast they are (bar Teleport Ninja and Barrier Girl). Though he has walked through a few bullets on accident, he stays undaunted and is ready to take on any opponent!

In the last match, the one man army came close to singlehandedly shooting down a ship, but Sirius came out floating on top!

I can't vote. I honestly can't pick. I like Sonic more, he's one of my mains after all, but Chrono is cool and awesome and it's hard to vote against him.

Did anyone else think that Sonic was only in that special battle mode for a while? (Not the main game or special/replay, the thing where it's like a gauntlet.) I could've sworn i'd never seen a Sonic Samurai until play 5 outside of it.

round 2 is going to have fan art for the mug shots, and I was worried that I wouldn't be able to find chrono/sonic art (the others have tons lol, well, except beam tank. Well no, I take that back, I've seen Beam Tank getting blown up, but that doesn't count lol)!! now he just has to win lol

Challenge mode? It's the only thing that comes to mind other than those you mentioned. And no, my first experience with Sonic was in my first playthrough against Sho #2. I was like, "DANG this guy looks awesome, I bet he can take on that Shoface!" *Sonic Sam gets whuped*

And yeah. I started using him again earlier this year (yeah, I didn't play with him for the next 4/5 years lol, I was so disappointed with that Sho battle), and he's really fun to use! Kinda wish I gave him more of a chance before, because he's awesome.

Yeah, I just love Chrono I use him all the time. Its just so awesome to stop time and beat on enemy borgs, then just dash away without them being able to do anything about it. He is in my opinion one amazing borg.

Sonic Samurai plays like Normal Samurai with a badass-looking one-hit X attack. Pretty awesome.
Chrono Samurai plays like... I don't even know what, maybe a melee-oriented Gold Hero if you're particularly imaginative.
I vote for Chrono for having a playstyle I can't come up with an obvious comparison for.

^eh? I always felt that Chrono was more Normal Sam + time stop special. Sonic Sam actually has a lot of different moves from the norm iirc. He's like Sasuke to Normal Ninja with all of his spinning attacks.

Chrono Samurai is cooler and more fun to play as but he's so slow and even kinda unreliable most times to count for to be a good performing Borg.

Sonic Samurai is more reliable and can even take out larger opponents easier and performs way better in Hyper Mode.

Overall, I would feel more secure going into battle with Sonic Samurai than Chrono Samurai unless it's mostly weaker opponents or VS a Commander, then Chrono Samurai slashes ***.

Chrono's melees are identical to Samurai Shogun's, but saying he plays like the Shogun doesn't work because he doesn't have the Shogun Slash. So I compared hin to Gold Hero, with the time stop being Chrono's analogue to the Gold Set-Up.
As for Sonic, as I recall his attacks were all the same as Normal Samurai's with the exception of his dash-melee, which attempts to emulate Normal's X attack.

Um I think that chrono samurai is good but it takes a while for his charge attack that stops time however sonic samurai leaves himself vuariable to attacks after the x attack is used difficult to chose

Chrono has never been unreliable to me, I will agree that against like fortress borgs he is pretty useless. If he fights anything else he destroys. So I can see why Sonic is pretty awesome I wont deny that, I just like Chrono more for how I play.

Love Chrono in hyper mode though, get off like two time stops and do tons damage.

Cartwheel attack; only way to use chrono.
Ughhhh, this is such a hard descision... T^T I love both of these borgs about equally...I'll have to go with Chrono. I first saw Orochi use him and thought, holy crap that thing is awesome! It can stop time!?

I've always loved sonic too, but I gotta vote Chrono.

@death Eye, I see. I never really do anything but dash melee with Sonic, so I don't really notice lol. Personally, I like the fast paced, dodge everything gameplay, and with Chrono I don't have that, so that's just what makes him feel "normal" to me I guess.

It's also bothersome when he keeps "pausing" the game, like someone who keeps pausing a SSB match. That's why I kill him asap


njayhuang, coulda fooled me. Must have dug deep for some of those fanarts haha. I remember when I used to really DIG for everything gotcha related...and well, lets not go there <_<

All you have to do is be in flinch mode and Chrono's time stop is rendered sort of useless ...

While sonic Samurai's X isn't great, I feel a good deal more secure using him.

By the way herpanda, thanks for taking the time into putting all the bracket art and borg descriptions and such together. It makes the whole thing quite more fun ;D

i find it funny that when you make your opponent flinch, it's called "hitstun," and when you make him fly off like a rocket, it's called "flinching." Though I have heard "flailing" used for the latter, I've heard "flinching" much more XD

I really like how sonic samurai looks (esp his alt form), but Chrono's face bothers me a bit. Also I feel more epic using sonic slash than time stop. I'm going with Sonic Samurai this time.
