Survive an ICBM? Cockroaches can survive nuclear missiles right? But how about an ICBM?

Well, technically, the cockroach is famed for resistance to radiation, not nuclear missiles themselves. If a cockroach wanders into somewhere that just got nuked, it'll survive being in all that radiation (except for the part where they're not as resistant as they're reputed to be), but if it gets hit by a nuke, no, it's dying a fiery death. Same goes for in-game, which is unfortunate, since that'd give the Roach a bit of a use. And now that I've made myself look like a nitpicky, overly-corrective annoyance who takes 76 words to answer a yes-or-no question (just like back in middle school!)... welcome to this forum you should introduce your self He just summed up the rest of this post better than I could.

What if you timed it so that you'd hurt yourself, and gain invincibility for JUST the right amount of time to survive the blast? I don't know if one poop bomb has enough juice to make you go into an invincible state, but you never know

i think roach's bombs only set off if an opponent gets within the bomb's detonation radius

It also depends on where you are compared to the center of the blast. If you're near the middle you're going to be in the explosion for a longer period of time and your invincible frames won't last long enough.

Welcome to the forums.
Also, to add to the nitpicky-ness, roach bombs will also go off after a set amount of time to ensure the player can re-position their bombs in case of emergency. I do not, however, remember if the timed explosion is actually damaging or a simple "smoke bomb" effect.
And yes, the roach would be so much more useful if it could survive an ICBM, both in real life and in game.
