I have always loved Gotcha Force.
Played it for years, and recently started playing it on an emulator for PC.
BUT...
How does the game decide which Borg/Crystal you get after each battle?
I have always wondered, so thanks in advance!

I think it is random. But the percentages are based on the number of that birg youve killed. Im probably wrong, i think DEATH EYE. has a formula for it tho.

Before each battle various chances are set up before the battle. So, you may have a fixed 90% chance for obtaining a normal ninja BEFORE one battle in a particular area and then you do the same mission on mission mode immediatly afterwards and it may have changed again. It's set before the battle and changes after any battle. With this you can save and reload many times if you appear to be getting the borg you want quite often. I know this because when searching for an ultimate cannon I did this, and I saved and reload and each time I got a random part for it. One time I didn't get it, although it was like 1 in 50 battles searching for the right pieces so I know that it's not always 100% or 0% if you catch my drift. As for alternates and specific crystal parts, I dont know and all of this is of course an educated hypothesis based upon my experience.
By the way Welcome to GFF!

that would explain why every time i do the elite force (if i got that right) i always get a megaton robot and rarely getting cyber ninja or beam samurai or beam tank.

Im probably wrong, i think DEATH EYE. has a formula for it tho. I wish I had a formula for it. How does the game decide which Borg/Crystal you get after each battle? I have always wondered, so thanks in advance! No one knows for sure how they decide it, but I believe the general consensus here is that a higher score gives you a better chance of getting a Borg. Most of us also believe (if I'm not mistaken) that your chances of getting a Borg are decreased dramatically if you're not the one that defeats it. In addition to those theories, I personally seem to have more of a chance of getting a rare Borg (silver, shadow, etc.) than a normal one (on the rare occasion that I even find a rare one), but a much lower chance of getting a rare Death Borg. And Al's aforementioned reset-before-a-battle-to-get-a-different-crystal thing also worked for me the one time I tried it, so there's probably something in the formula that makes that work like that. As for specifically what crystal (A, B, C, D, E), I would guess they select that randomly the moment before they show it, but I have no idea.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I always assumed it was random, but I didn't realise there sere factors which affected it.

so wait, how's that save/reset mechanic work? Do you save before a match, and if you get a piece you don't want, reset? Or do you save before a match, save after the match (keeping the piece/borg you got), and do that mission again right away?
*needs one more piece for my Dark Knight lol...>_> been hunting one for a loooooong time...*

Same way with pokemon and gender swapping trick. Save before fight, after fight fail to get what wanted resest.
