Do you think you would be fair?
One problem I would have is that I am too nice. I'd not like to call a game bad as it would offend people. Even though I am personally very picky with games and can happily find faults in any game (Including Gotcha Force)
A problem in general is that we all like and dislike certain genres of games. Even the most professional reviewers are biased to an extent. People may disagree with me but this is just my opinion.
I have another question too. Do reviewers, review the price of games in comparison to how good they are? For example. Lets say a game has bad graphics, a bad story and no replay value. This may bring down it's rating but if it's recommended retail price is $2.99, that would bring up it's rating no?
Some of you may think the following. That the price of the game doesn't relate to how it plays, so it shouldn't effect the review. But for me personally, it does. The first thing I look at with games is the price. I simply don't want to spend £50 on a game, no matter how good it is. The price dictates to me, the value of a game, as well as the actual game-play.
Loopy out!

I'm prolly a fair reviewer. I know that if i just dislike a certain genre of game i'd make sure to note it during the review or something.
Great... Now i wanna go review something.

Im not sure, i mean id say i can be fair. Like i hate racing games, but burnout 2 or 3 is worth picking up. And i agree with you Loopy, the price of a game should be based on its playability. Im the same way i dont want to spend $50-60 on straight crap. I want to be able to enjoy my purchase. Its kind of like when you order food at a restaurant, and it comes out wrong. Naturally you get upset. Which as a waiter i see both sides but still, dont advertise a crappy cheese burger as the best in town.

i do not show favoritism in video games
if i dont like it i dont like it
i dont like a game because it doesnt have super sonic fantasy of symphonia 13 in its name
i like the game for wha it is
which leeds me to liking games that everyone else hates but i like small list includes
sonic unleashed castlevania judgement beowulf fist of the north star ken's rage left 4 dead enchanted arms dead island megaman 8 pokemon trozel gotcha force final fantasy 13 etc
and disliking games that everyone seems to praise for godlikeness small list includes
mass effect GTA Call of duty black ops final fantasy 7*flame shield up* halo 2(specificly this one.... i like every other one) Oblivion*draws flame sword*(because of oblivion i REFUSE to play skyrim) castlevania dawn of sorrow
and then theres the one game i dont exactly like but respect and that is
Legend of Zelda the series

I think I'd be a good one. When it comes to games I can be brutally honest.

Thank you for your replies people :] I have had a nice read. I guess it's a persons taste that reflects on their thoughts on a Game overall. In a way, the best person to review Games is a person that dislikes Games all together. It's harder to be biased if you feel the same way about everything right? x] That said, a person could specifically dislike certain Games lol..

Dude, you got to be passionate about reviewing and you have to have experience with games to know what your talking about, the best game reviewer is someone who has played just about everything and is mature enough to not turn his nose up at new games.

i'd probably be a terrible reviewer. it's hard for me to actually like a game from a genre that i don't actually like. take FPSs for example. to me they all do the same thing. pick up a gun, and shoot people. it's fun when you play with friends and family, cause you can rub it in their faces and they can do it back. however, i would still rate it low because it didn't give me as good a time as something like, say gotcha force, ya know?
but if something is good then i'd stick with it forever. yeah i'd be a bad game rater ._.

It matters what the scale is. If the scale is from 0-5 stars, yes I'd be fair. If the scale was from 0-10 stars, no.
This is because of the connotations people give different ratings:
On a five star scale, 3 is average, 4 is better than most, 5 is perfect/better than most (depending on the reviewer).
On a 10 star scale, 6 and below mean the same thing, failing, 7 is average (but still not good), 8 is average and playable, 9 is better than most, and 10 is perfect/better than most (depending on the reviewer). But really...to maximize the usage of all of the numbers, 5 SHOULD be considered average on a 10 scale, because otherwise the 0-6 ratings mean essentially the same thing: the game sucks.
So, on a 5 scale, I'd give an average game a 3, and that's fair. On a 10 scale, I'd give that same game a 7 (because of the "grades" mentality we're stuck in), which really isn't all that fair on the scale, you know?
EDIT: <___< oh wait wait, I misunderstood the question. I guess I wouldn't be fair then. I'd give Gotcha Force a 10 because it's my favorite game. There are countless flaws, so its FAR from perfect, but I'd still give a game I really enjoyed a perfect score.

scales are pointless i use scales in all the 3 of my reviews and honestly coming up with a score just kinda sucks especially with a game that isnt quite a 4 but not a 3 either then this also leads to fan rage now i might switch my review style to a completly different style such as there being no scale but giving my opinion and saying what group of people might like it
also if your curious about my reviews ill post them sometime in the future

People do rage when you give it a score they don't like, but if you just say, "eh, it was alright", they can't really get mad at you for giving it a 7. It makes it seem more...opinion based I guess. People seem to take numbers as hard cold facts, while words give a lot more leeway, helping them realize that your review is really just your opinion. I think.

Does that count? I guess...I think they're in most of the pso's (part of the 3 races kinda thing). Hmm, I guess medium sized one's aren't all that...spectacular in comparison. Nothing seems special about them that makes them stick out lol.

Does that count? Yep. Phantasy Star Portable 2 was good times. Made a tall Cast, had giant swords and guns. It was fun playing, since most people made average sized Humans and stuff. I'd call them little fleshies. I'm hoping PSO2 comes out here so I can do the same, but with the new, more amazing Cast designs, I mean, they can even do one of my favorite mech qualities in PSO2... Roller/Grind/Hover/Boost-skating, not to mention the game looks pure amazing...
