Back in Bliss, Charles opened up the casket Eleanor was in, after having opened up the other ones and giving the talk.
Eleanor found herself in the throne room, and Davis stood over her.
He fainted upon seeing her.
"Sorry, Eleanor. Davis insisted to tell you everything, but..." Mumbled Charles, fidgeting.
Davis got up.
"A LEVEEEEEEEEL FIIIIIIIIIIVE!" He yelled, making a big song and dance.
Literally.
He clicked his finger and he got a full scale orchaestra, simulated by AI, to recreate a celebratory composition of Davis' design, to which Davis danced pasionately too, like a lunatic.
"Leveeel fiiiiiiiiive levelllllll 5!" He sang.
"Ellllllleaaaaanoooooooooooor." He continued.
"Where am I...? Heaven?" She asked, completely bemused
Skyla joined in the song with some organs.
"We're in Bliiiiiiiss!" She finished. The song piped down and Davis jumped down.
"Are you god?" Asked Eleanor.
"No, no, I'm sorry, no gods around here." Said Davis.
"I was pretty sure he existed, maybe he still does- but I doubt it at this rate." Explained Skyla, patting Eleanor on the back.
Eleanor looks sad for a moment, then smiles. "I'm not the sort to have a religious crisis at the drop of a hat. I think I can handle this. I wonder if God can hear my prayers after I'm dead?"
Davis was quiet, then he attempted to change the subject.
"Hey!" Davis finished.
"Hey! Eleanor! Come with me! Little do you know, your in for more of a treat than most!" Said Davis, dragging her onto the balcony.
Bliss was assembled outside, cheering.
"I bring you a level 5... besides me! This is Eleanor, my friends!" Yelled Davis, nudging Eleanor forward.
"Sorry, after this is done we will explain everything, until then, well done! But first... From one level 5 to another..." Davis got on his knee and grabbed her hand.
"Will you be my queen?" He asked, softly kissing it.
Eleanor was stupified. She looked down at Davis, staring at him for a while her thoughts running mad.
After a few seconds, she put her hand up to her chin and blushed. "But kind sir, we've only just met!"
"Forgive me! Here, lets go about the grand tour together!" Said Davis, taking her hand and jumping off the balcony.
They landed softly on the ground, the other spirits parting way.
He explained Bliss and the reapers and death in a sing song voice.
"And we reap people based on their happiness levels! 0s are depressed, but the higher the level, the better! You and me Eleanor, are THE highest levels ever! Level 5! As a level 5, I founded and governed Bliss, but together Eleanor... we can turn Bliss into the true epitome of heaven! I've been a king of the dead for so long without a queen, and your perfect, not just due to your level necessarily, but because your kind and caring heart is just what this place needs to give this place that extra oomph! Plus... I'm sorry, its love at first sight for me." Said Davis.
"Please, be mine, OURS till time ends?" Asked Davis, getting on his knees and presenting a glowing gold diamond wedding ring.
Eleanor looked apologetic.
"I...I'm sorry, but I barely know you, and as this is for eternity, I don't want to rush into any life...I mean, afterlife altering decisions. Since we have eternity, you can spare me some time to think, and to get to know you, can't you?" She asked him.
David looked devastated.
"Well, in that case, I should treat you like no other spirit. Have a look around, and come see me when your ready for... reaper training." Said Davis, dragging his feet slowly inside.
Eleanor looked a little nervous about reaper training, but she looked around.
"Umm...making people happy is what made me happy...what can I do here?" She said to no one in particular.
A floating orb appeared next to her, AI.
"Certainly mam, happy to assist. In Bliss, there is little to do in the way of making others happy, as people have the ability to do everything for themselves.
However, you do have paternal reaping, you could even go down for 6 hours a day and continue working as a nurse in the war. Or, make someone else happy. Of course, I could use some help with administrative business around Bliss..." He trailed off.
Eleanor perks up. "I like helping. If there's any way I can help you, I'd be delighted to." She trails off. "But first, there's something I feel I need to do.
She went over the gates of Death, leaving AI behind, and created a table, chairs, and a pot of Earl gray tea with cups in front of the gates.
She waited, hoping death would accept her invitation to a spot of tea.
After a few minuets, the death avatar appeared in one of the chairs, and poured himself a cup of the brew.
She smiled at him, relieved. "I'm sure you're quite busy, but I felt I owed you this courtesy. Also..." she paused then continued. "...I know it's a lot to ask, but I have so many questions, and if anyone has the answers its you. You don't have to answer if you don't want to, but I feel I need to ask if it's okay.
Death stared at her silently from underneath his hood as he sipped his tea, uninterested and expectant.
She gulped for a bit, sipping her own tea, then she blurted out, "Is...is there any truth to my faith?" She bowed her head, ashamed of herself for even asking.
Death looked at her.
He finished sipping his tea.
He sat there for a bit, and watched Eleanor drink. He then decided that he would have to answer. He laughed loudly.
"By faith, you mean, god? I am amused by the way you perceive such a being. Tell me, where did the universe come from? It has always been here- that is the only thing in in existence that is unnecessary. Everything else in the universe exists due to the natural and unwritten laws of necessity, I exist to prevent over population, which will inevitably lead to the universe's destruction. There was no designer, or guider- but if you want, consider the way fate and necessity works to be your god if you cant live without him." Death mocked. The sky in Bliss began to gray a little.
She was quiet for a while, then smiled beatifically. "Of course. How silly of me. I guess my real question is the more important one here then." She sipped her tea for a bit. "When...when I died, I felt you take me, but then you gave me to the others. Why did you want to take me, and why did you give me up?"
Death pondered for a while, changing his attitude. He poured himself another cup of tea, and then made some crumpets and wolfed them down.
Then a cake.
Then two cakes.
Then a giant pool of melted chocolate in a bowl.
Death sat back when he finished.
"Yum. I have been feeling hungry lately... but that doesn't curb my appetite, such small meals, snacks... an infinite amount of it cannot curb my hunger..." Death trailed off.
"But sometimes, its nice to share. And they say a happy cow's meat tastes nicer..." Death got up and stepped through the gates.
Suddenly, a roar was heard, and the sky became a violent black vortex hanging above Bliss.
Back at the palace, Davis looked Grim.
"Not again, how much does he need? Ok men, you know the procedure- the person who as reaped the less gets thrown in." Said Davis on his throne.
"Why not use the level 5, we could last for years-" Said one.
Davis chucked his shoe at him.
"No. In any case, our new recruits and the level 5 are still on the initial immunity period, so we'll have to take... ok, AI, find him and bring him here. Shame really, but I'm sure he had a nice immunity."
They appeared in front of the gates of death, and put Eleanor to the side.
"Sorry about this. Nothing personal. I do hope you enjoyed Bliss while you were here!" Said Davis, to a spirit that was tied and bound to a stake.
"No, please no, whats going on?" Screamed the sacrifice, unable to move. He tried everything, but even as a spirit with infinite limits and potential without a body in Bliss, two minds alone were easily able to more than double his output no matter how hard he tried.
"Mass conscious, friend. Now, say hi to death for me." Said Davis.
The sacrifice stared wide eyed as AI floated over to him, turned into a giant boot, and punted him through the wide open gates of death.
The roaring ceased, the vortex disappeared, and the sky turned white. Snoring was heard until it died down.
Davis turned around to see Eleanor.
"... Sorry you had to see that. Its necessary." Said Davis, disappearing in shame before she had a chance to say anything back.
"Now, the movies need updating and Skyla's been wearing the straps down, they need replacing..." AI mumbled, buzzing off to his duties.
The other spirits closed the gates, then left without a word.
Eleanor found herself in the throne room, and Davis stood over her.
He fainted upon seeing her.
