For a little while now Congress is trying to pass this act that is "supposed" to prevent piracy but what it will actually do is remove most search engines and social media sites like youtube simply because it gives companies the right to sue them for their users sharing copyrighted material. This could also prevent any sort of new media innovations from emerging, and could pottentially even shut down most of the internet. And this will not just affect the states since the internet is a global communication system
So take the time to view this video protesting the bill and follow the links that is shown in the video and let your represnetative know or even if your not in the U.S. let congress know how this bill could potentially suck out all the enjoyment in the internet and recent media. Even before watching this video I already sent a letter to congress.
So if you enjoy Youtube, Facebook, or even posting on this very site, let your voice be heard or all these sites could be taken down and never to appear again in any shape or form. Thank you for your time.

It's not gonna happen. Internet is a too big part of today's society so they'll never get through with this. They need to wake up to once and for all to the reality that information gets distributed this way now that they've forced Internet upon the people.

this is just like that one bill to prevent piracy of movies in any shape or form
but according to the wording that also ment that videogames, music, and streaming would be illeagle to post on the internet and could land you jail for 5 years or so

Pirates will always be pirates. With or without the internet. There's other ways to pirate. Movies: rent one from the local video store/kiosk and copy it onto your computer. Music: Borrow CD from friend who bought it, rip it onto computer. Games: Probably same as either of the previous ones. Okay. Piracy is bad. But point is, they don't need to disable half the internet to protect a few dollars from leaking out of their huge companies. Heck. I like the Steam/Spotify business model. Offer what the internet does, except better. They just need to do that for movies. Like offer movies free to watch, but loaded or surrounded by ads. Then it would be fair, legal, and no one would lose. And it wouldn't be piracy. Arr.

saw this on some other website:
Piracy = making a copy of data Theft = taking the data
Imagine your car is stolen, but it is still there in the morning.
I mean I suppose that it would hurt the artists and creators of the songs, videos, and games that are pirated, and that is bad, but I just can't get over the fact taht the internet lets me get so much stuff for FREE. yeah that sounds pretty bad, but most people will agree with me that we like the way things are. Also music artists and game creators should take into account that there are plenty of people who will buy their CDs and games even before they get ripped and passed along the internet. Perhaps we should focus on creating software that prevents people from downloading said songs if the owners are really that upset, kind of like how anime broadcasting companies remove videos due to infringement, but without the policing and having to search for violators.
