You can find my ramblings here. Anyways I just got this game yesterday.
Started a new game and, through the 20th Force glitch, exchanged Normal Ninja and Revolver Gunman for G Black and Galactic Emperor, respectively. Played for a bit and got Normal Knight, Claw Robot, and a Revolver Gunman.
First impressions: Everything's going SO FAST. My god.
I hope I adjust soon.
EDIT: Yea, if there's another place to put this post or whatever, I guess you can put it there. But this is like a log of my first playthrough.

Oh gawd. I beat Sho for the first time on Little Hill. Sho. Was. A. Pain.
Even with using G-Black. Oh. My. Gawd.
Here's what I did: Distance attacks really weren't very effective against him. EY CAN'T AYMZ. Or maybe it's cause Garuda DODGED EVERYTHING. So I had to melee Garuda with G Red, which weakened Garuda's health down to a manageable level.
Finished Garuda off with G Black. Then came out his Blade Wing.
I always died around this part. The Blade Wing gave me more fits than Garuda did for some reason. But through a combination of melee, a small amount of distance shots, and by sink-or-swim learning how to use (and aim) G Black's X Attack, I was able to triumph.
But unfortunately, I didn't get any borg as a reward for this challenge. NO MATTER. I'll glitch myself a Blade Wing as a reward for beating that annoying thing. I DESERVE IT.
ANYWAYS. Here's the other borgs I had to choose from: Normal Knight, Claw Robot, Revolver Gunman, Battle Girl, Galactic Emperor...WAIT HE DOESN'T COUNT CUZ OF HIS 3000 point cost lulz
See anything in common? Yeah. THEY ALL SUCK.
Yeah, so I had a bad pool of borgs to select from. Tell you what. I'm issuing a challenge to everyone here. Try beating Sho on Little Hill with G Red and only the other borgs I listed above. Go on.
Then post a video of all your failures and your success. I want to see how you guys do.
Did I mention that I just started playing this game yesterday?

^Sho is a pain. I was in a similar situation on my first play, only I might have been trying to beat him with a Blue Striker since I sucked with anything that wasn't an Air Borg back then. But he is actually not that difficult to beat if you hide behind stuff and use G Red's charge beam attack; it goes through walls, so you can attack from behind cover with it. Also, I wouldn't recommend using the glitch like that, personally; aside from the possibility of file corruption, it also eliminates the sense of accomplishment you feel when you finally get those harder-to-get Borgs when you just glitch for them. I also consider the fact that I did it to get an alt Antares, Sirius, and Ultimate Cannon dishonorable, but that's mostly because I tend to hold myself to a very strict code of ethics or whatever you want to call it when it comes to Gotcha Force.

But he is actually not that difficult to beat if you hide behind stuff and use G Red's charge beam attack; it goes through walls, so you can attack from behind cover with it. Huh. Figured that Garuda/Blade Wing would just dodge it, fly over your cover, and kill you anyways, but I guess I can try that next time. EDIT: But guess I was wrong, since I just watched a video where someone takes down Sho with that exact strategy: www.youtube.com/watch?v=vB75w1HQnaQ >.> Yeah, I wish I knew this earlier. Also, I wouldn't recommend using the glitch like that, personally; aside from the possibility of file corruption, it also eliminates the sense of accomplishment you feel when you finally get those harder-to-get Borgs when you just glitch for them. Update: The code for the Blade Wing didn't work, so I got an Anubis Wing instead. But while it's nice of you to warn me of this, but it really isn't applicable in this situation for several reasons. First, I have a method to backup saves. Second, I didn't glitch myself an Anubis Wing for no reason. I glitched it because I felt like I deserved a reward for beating Sho for the first time, and I wanted to walk away from it with something earned. Considering the hassle that doing the glitch gives me, I'll probably only give myself a reward for conquering extremely difficult fights, so I don't see my sense of accomplishment being spoiled anytime soon. But each to her or his own opinion, I guess. I also consider the fact that I did it to get an alt Antares, Sirius, and Ultimate Cannon dishonorable, but that's mostly because I tend to hold myself to a very strict code of ethics or whatever you want to call it when it comes to Gotcha Force. My philosophy is that people will play the game the way that they want to, so you should let them. *shrug* Whatever floats your boat, and whatever floats mine, I guess.

I do feel I must warn you, though, that your backup method may not be as effective as you think; I also have the ability to backup my save, but I found out a while ago that for some reason I can't restore my save; the file is always regarded as corrupt once it's restored. So I can copy my file to my computer all I want, but the only way that will help me is if I start playing the game in an emulator.

Hmm? The one from EMS? Mine works. *shrug* But thanks for your concern.
Defeated the Orochi Tuff Stuff mission 1 yesterday. Used Shuriken Ninja, G Red, Claw Robot, and Normal Knight. It wasn't as hard as Sho. I won by taking Orochi down to her last borg by taking down Ruby Knight with Normal Knight (my last borg), and then hiding behind cover until my partner finished off Orochi's last borg.
Anyways, since last time, I got a Normal Samurai, a Normal Ninja, and a Shuriken Ninja. I also briefly mentioned that I obtained a Battle Girl during the Sho section, but I'm repeating it here in case you miss it.
So you get better borgs in later playthroughs, if I'm correct...?

Oh gawd. I beat Sho for the first time on Little Hill. Sho. Was. A. Pain. Are you a game achieve-the-most-as-I-can-er or were you unaware that you're not required to defeat Sho? Either way I commend you, especially for not using the G Red spamming method :3 Well, my philosophy when it comes to fighting games like this is that characters aren't bad or good, but they're just harder or easier to use. Sapphirecat, for example, is pretty well known for whipping everything with Battle Girls. And there's a Youtube video of Manocheese beating Sho (that same battle, I believe) with Death Borgs. So, just keep expanding in your borg using knowledge ^^ Although I would probably go down first shot using those borgs ... my Gotcha skills have deteriorated for some time xP

But all of those borgs above, with one possible exception, would be aggravatingly difficult to use against Sho. The one possible exception is Battle Girl. I suppose that a skilled player could use her to dodge Sho's attacks and then fire back, but I'm still unsure of that possibility.

So you get better borgs in later playthroughs, if I'm correct...? You (as far as anyone knows) encounter more of the rare-colored ones in later playthroughs. But to actually answer your question, in those higher playthroughs you already have data crystals for the Borgs that require them, so you're more likely to actually get them by that point. So yeah, you get better Borgs at later playthroughs. Are you a game achieve-the-most-as-I-can-er or were you unaware that you're not required to defeat Sho? I think the rematch is actually easier; by that point you (probably) have a lot of better Borgs and the only things that increase the difficulty are that there's nowhere to hide and he has a few more Borgs, but neither of them are strong enough to make it much more difficult. Oh, and he might completely destroy you in one shot with Blade Wing in that one, so I guess that makes it more difficult, too. I don't know how much you know about the rematch, so I'll assume that you know only that it exists in order to avoid spoiling much and leave it at that. Congratulations on beating the first Sho mission! The first Sho match is one of the hardest battle in the entire game. The rematch is easier by far. You have more energy now to construct a force and even though he has a few more borgs, you could probably kill them without taking considerable damage.

Okay, I just had my first major Gotcha Force session that lasted more than several hours.
I'll admit, it felt a bit mediocre early on, but now that its taking off, and there are more borgs for me and my enemies, it's really fun. Makes you wonder if, had the critics played this more, whether this would've gotten a higher score. Probably.
I started when the Death Force took over the whole town, knocked them down, got those kids with Vlad, Issac, and the samurai to join me. Beat the Hero Borg squad, and am now right before the Sho rematch, the Orochi rematch, and the Cosmic Dragon fight.
I'm gonna ask for some advice on what borgs to use against Sho, I guess. I have gotten a lot of new borgs and even two data crystals during my last Gotcha session.
Data crystals: Killer Girl Slow Valkyrie
New borgs: Acceleration Ninja Spinner Girl Poison Worm (My 2nd) Claw Robot (My 2nd) Battle Girl Command Girl Hatchet Knight (Yay for my 1st C borg!) Guard Witch (My 2nd) Spinner Girl Wind Valkyrie
Total list of borgs I have G Red G Black Galactic Emperor (HA can't use him) Normal Knight Claw Robot Revolver Gunman Battle Girl Anubis Wing Normal Samurai Normal Ninja Shuriken Ninja Acceleration Ninja Spinner Girl Poison Worm (My 2nd) Claw Robot (My 2nd) Battle Girl Command Girl Hatchet Knight (Yay for my 1st C borg!) Guard Witch (My 2nd) Spinner Girl Wind Valkyrie
Alright, which borgs would do well against Sho?

Well, an Anubis Wing can destroy just about anything, but then you get into the fact that Garuda's more powerful than an Anubis Wing, so that'll only work if you can outperform Sho... which isn't actually very hard. Alternatively, a well-played Hatchet Knight should be able to tear Sho apart, what with the ability to throw those hatchets, and a Shruiken Ninja, in my experience, isn't bad against Blade Wing, so that might be good.

Okay. Just beat the Sho rematch. Hatchet Knight felt kinda wonky to me, but maybe that's because I never used him before. So the Force I used against Sho was Shuriken Ninja (Level 3), Battle Girl, Wind Valkyrie, Battle Girl (the 2nd one), and Command Girl. Since I knew how to use Shuriken Ninja, I knocked Garuda's health down to like less than half. Finished it off with Battle Girl. I think her missile dealt the finishing blow. Got through the next two borgs with Battle Girl, Wind Valkyrie (which didn't do much for me), and the second Battle Girl. Weakened Blade Wing a bit with the 2nd Battle Girl, activated Hyper Mode with Command Girl, and spammed her X attack. After Hyper Mode wore off, I used a combination of the X attack, B attacks, and dodging to win. Command Girl really worked well for me. It managed to take down Blade Wing with a bit of help. Credit to this video for showing me the power of Command Girl: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERcDNTm_toA&feature=channel_video_titleSpoils: I got a Wing Soldier and a Data Crystal of Blade Wing. EDIT: Another Gotcha Force session. I grinded my way up past 1500 pts, and beat the Orochi rematch. Then I played more miscellaneous matches. Got my first three ALTERNATE colored borgs. Spoils: Magnet Robot +, ALTERNATE colored Revolver Gunman, Wire Girl, Teleport Ninja, Double Ninja, Sapphire Knight data crystal, Sonic Samurai, Ring Valkyrie, Quick Valkyrie, Chainsaw Knight, Wire Gunman, ALTERNATE colored Normal Ninja, Death Borg Delta II, ALTERNATE colored Wire Gunman, Powered Gunman, Vampire Knight Also got dupes of Battle Girl, Revolver Gunman, Normal Ninja, Spinner Girl, Wire Girl, Chainsaw Knight, Shuriken Ninja, Claw Robot, Normal Knight, Sonic Samurai, Double Ninja, and Quick Valkyrie somewhere in there. Beat the Cosmic Dragon mission. Getting up that ledge was a pain. Hey? Any tips on which new borgs I should try out?

Being a fan of Death Borgs, myself, I'd recommend that you try Death Borg Delta II; I've always thought it to be a decent long-range Borg if you can make its severely limited HP last.
Or, for a more generally viable option, Vampire Knight. With some melee skill and a bit of strategic usage of the power boost (i.e. when you're nearly dead use it and shred everything you can with the X attack), he can last for a very long time. And he can also destroy large, slow opponents quite easily.

Hmm, would Death Borg Delta II (my first Death Borg, btw) work well in the upcoming level with six Ultimate Cannons?
I think quantity would work better over quality in that case, and Death Borg Delta II might work as a cost-effective borg in that case.
