^ yeah thats what happended after mine but they desided to have it on a friday and i was racing on the Saturday so i didnt go out for a drink afterwards

If you haven't noticed, some girls like to pair people up because it's cute/adorable/whatever. Just ignore them. Even if you don't bring a date to prom, you can still dance. You just have to sit out the slow dances.
Prom won't really mean much to you if you're not a senior or a dancer. If you want to skip prom, I don't think any college or job employer will look at your CV and think negatively of you for not going to prom. To be honest, I didn't think prom attendance was a big enough deal to include on a CV.
This coming from a guy who didn't bring a date to prom and spent a lot of the time sitting and talking. >.>
