Same things as before. Who wins on a flat arena and who wins in a arena with walls and obstacles? Both borgs are being played to their absolute best.
Meanwhile should we be adding Hyper/Super mode into these fights? Would it make much of a difference? I dunnnoooo. Y'all pick.
I noticed that i've only done knights so far with these threads. I guess that says a lot about my preferences... So for the next one i'm going to switch it up with a different tribe. Any suggestions?
Personally i think Axe knight is better. He has a far better ranged attack with his Charge B and his melee has the same frames and animations as Spike but with better range because of energy wave. He doesn't have a shield like spike does but spikes ranged attacks are too dangerous to a hit and run style borg like Axe.
Axes Charge B hits multiple times and does good damage. It also has the most awkwardly long shield stun too. (The attack hits again right after the stun from a block ends. If you don't keep the controller neutral it has a far higher chance of actually hitting you. The entire shot lasts for like 5 seconds which is long enough to have another axe on its way too you.)

Spike Knight has a shield, but Axe Knight can attack at long range. Axe Knight wins.

Spike Knight
He has great attack and defense where as Axe Knight just has a lot of attack. They are both a bit clumsy They both have range But Spike Knight has a shield.

I've learned that range in a fight gets around a shield they both seem to be about the same speed but the axe knight has a ranged attack plus the waves off his axe the shield is nice but it can't block every ting

And when you have that little edge and superior stats I think the outcome is clear.

Believe me, axe knights thrown axe is great against shields. It has a huge chance of hitting even if blocked and puts people into insane hitstun. Anyways Spike's ranged B doesn't go very far. It certainly doesn't go as far as the thrown axe does.

On a stage with obstacles like table legs, corners, etc. all Spike Knight has to do is stay close to them. If Spike Knight uses the stage correctly, he can attack Axe Knight without getting hit. Spike Knight's hammer has a longer attack range than Axe Knight's axe swing, and if Axe Knight throws an axe, the obstacle will stop the axe.
But some stages have areas of open space where Spike Knight can't reach by staying near obstacles. By staying in the open areas, Axe Knight can force Spike Knight to approach. By eliminating the obstacles, Axe Knight's range of attack is now significantly larger than Spike Knight's. But Spike Knight has a shield.
I don't have too much experience with shields against axes, but I did just do a knight playthrough and I think this is how it goes. When you block the axe with a shield, it doesn't disappear; it keeps going. It'll get blocked by the shield a few times, but you're stepping back from the block, and if you get slightly off centered, the axe will hit you.
By utilizing the stage's obstacles, Spike Knight could very easily win. As long as he stays in the shadow of an obstacle, he can attack a defenseless and offenseless Axe Knight. The axe throws get blocked, the axe swing can't reach, he's slow, and he has no shield.
By utilizing the stage's open areas, Axe Knight could very easily win. As long as he stays in the open area where Spike Knight can't reach him from the shadows, he can attack a defenseless and offenseless Spike Knight. The hammer can't reach, and the axe eventually goes around shields.
I think the matchup is in favor of Spike Knight because he can sidestep the axe throws and get close enough for a hit while Axe Knight is charging. The only way to charge is it to press B first, and then Axe Knight is even more vulnerable while swinging his axe. At the highest level, Axe Knight probably wouldn't let that happen and would hold down B as he's throwing the axe, letting him charge without the axe swing. But even if both are played at the highest level (perfect dodging, spacing, stage use, and whatever), you still can't get around the fact that Axe Knight has to charge every axe throw.
And that means no matter how well Axe Knight is played, even on a flat open stage, during that charge time Spike Knight can attack a defenseless and offenseless Axe Knight.
Edit: Herp derp forgot about Axe Knight's X attack. Against a melee borg, Axe Knight's X lets him do a strong moving attack keeping the borg away while he charges his axe throw. But Hammer Knight has the yoyo hammer and he can attack while staying out of Axe's attack range.
