So, Nintendo's E3 is over, in what was a fairly decent show. The new home console looks a bit weird but actually looks quite cool, and everything else just appealed to fanboys XD
Just thought I'd post a lowdown on everything;
New Home Console
Named the 'Wii U' (seriously, not making it up), it seems to be fairly competent. The tech demos showed some brilliant graphics - easily better than the PS360, and considering these are just the very early games, that shows some amazing future graphics.
The weirdest thing though....is the controller.
As you can tell its got a huge 6-inch touchscreen in the middle, a camera, twin speakers, a microphone, rumble and a built-in gyroscope. Basically, the bottom half of the 3DS. They haven't said anything yet, but supposedly it is a multi-touch touchscreen... although I'm not too certain.
In terms of buttons, it has two shoulder triggers, the abxy buttons, twin analog sticks, a d-pad, start, select and home buttons.
The controller itself is almost another console, as you seem to be able to play games just on it, play games that you were playing on the TV on it, and make video calls on it.
Update:It seems the console will allow only one Wii U controller to connect and up to four wii remotes.
The console is backwards compatible with the Wii, but I'm not too sure about the Gamecube yet. The console itself doesn't seem like it has ports for the controllers which is looking bad, HOWEVER; it seems to be just a demo console and nowhere near final yet, hence why they didn't focus on it in the conference.
Update: Apparently, friend codes have been scrapped.
Update: Reggie Fils-Aime has confirmed that the Wii U will NOT be playing Gamecube games. This sucks, but there's always the chance Reggie is misinformed/lying as he did when there was speculation around a 'Wii 2' (he stated that Nintendo had not even considered a new console, despite it being revealed 2 months later). It makes sense that they would drop it mind - its like the drop of the GBA slot on the DSi.
Zelda's 25th Anniversary
So for Zelda's 25th Anniversary, they announced 2 new games and unnofficially announced a third. The first is a port of Links Awakening, which should be coming to 3DS later on today, which sounds awesome. The second is a version of Four Swords Adventures, which is to be released FOR FREE on DSiWare in September. The third they didn't actually announce but the demo reel for the Wii U had a HD Zelda running which looked similar to TP.
They also announced that orchestras around the world will be putting on Zelda concerts, playing orchestral versions of classic Zelda tunes. They also said that two soundtrack CDs would be released, with music from the series.
Update: It has now been revealed that the platformer 'Super Mario 3DS' will include a top-down dungeon style level in commemoration of Zeldas 25th
Mario Kart 3DS
So, a lot was shown about this. First off is an interesting feature - you can now customize your karts. Not only that, but it seems that each kart can now transform into a submarine for underwater sections, and you can deploy a hang-glider seemingly at any time in order to fly over gaps, etc.
OH! ALSO SUPER SMASH BROS 3DS AND WII U :D
Nothing has been said though :/
Other notable games (with notes);
Wii U;
- Update:Aliens Colonial Marines
- Battlefield 3 (Update:apparently they have discovered new ways to play it? And the developers seem very smitten with the new controller... I don't know what to make of that but yeah)
- Batman: Arkham City
- Assassins Creed (Update:Has exclusive features - touch screen maps, weapon selection, 'eagle vision' and others - apparently the best Assassins Creed game they can make)
- Update:Dirt
- Lego City Stories (Looks very similar to GTA)
- New Super Mario Mii (Not actually a game yet... New Super Mario Bros Wii with Miis and seems to be controlled completely on the controller... I dunno. Weird)
- Tekken (You can draw on your characters with the controller!)
- Ghost Recon Online (Update:The only proper Wii U gameplay trailer we have, and it looks impeccable. The controller works really, really well with it, and if this is the sort of standerd Wii U games are up to, I am going to run out of money fast)
- Ninja Gaiden 3
- Darkstalkers 2 (available as a launch title)
- Update:EA says Mass Effect Wii U would be 'really nice'. They haven't announced anything just yet mind.
- Update:Killer Freaks From Outer Space -Ubisoft game set in London which features aliens, which actually looks really cool- announced.
- Update:Metro: Last Night
- Update:PIKMIN 3 :DDDDDDD
3DS;
- LUIGIS MANSION 2 (Yess ladds)
- Kid Icarus has 3 vs 3 (online?) versus which actually looks amazing. Also has TONS of AR cards you can collect and then make battle each other - seems like a TCG in progress
- Lego City stories (Exclusive to 3DS/Wii U)
- Star Fox 64 3D (In multiplayer, live feed from the inner camera is shown with your avatar, to show your reactions... its really hard to explain, but looks okay I guess)
- Animal Crossing 3DS (They showed an image of an animal crossing guy dressed like link, with his place all Zelda'd up. That looked like it could have been from any Animal Crossing game though tbh. They also showed that we're old (poor?) enough to live in tents and the extra long bodies have granted us the ability to swim)
- Update:Super Pokemon Scramble announced - Will feature 5th gen pokes and is sequel to WiiWare game
Wii/DS
-Just general stuff about Skyward Sword.
-DS gets free download of Four Swords
-Just Dance 3?
-Update: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 semi-confirmed for Wii
So yeah, there it is, at least all that I can remember. I'll update when new stuff happens and try to get some links to screenies but other than that.... discuss.
Oh! One last thing, at the end a load of logos were shown on the wall and one of them said 'Mario Party 9'. Not sure what that meant but hey.
