About The World God Only Knows, it's not that I just want to avoid a harem anime, but every arc supposedly has that memory wipe thing, and I don't really like Keima's uncaring-but-perfect-guy nature. PSO2 is a really good action MMO, almost like a full 3D tales game, with combos and 'artes' attacks. They said it would have an American release early 2013... Okay. The original PSO was also really good, if a bit dated now. As for the PSP series, I only know about the second, but it was also really good. The story was lighthearted and cliche, but I still liked it, and it was fun as an action RPG with great customization, and during its time, built in, active online play. Are they a bit dated? sure, but they're still wonderful. When I have a group of friends over we still pull out PSO every now and then and play split-screen co-op (since I don't have an adapter to play online anymore) with our level 90-ish characters that we set aside specifically for multiplayer with eachother.

Of course. I'd still give it another play some time if I had friends who would. But the newer games in the series began offering complete customization of your character for any class, as well as dodging and blocking, and photon arts, making it much more skill based, and more eye candy in general.
The Phantasy Star series has really good ambient music, I forgot to mention. They give off a real futuristic space world vibe.

Macross 30 is really a dream of a game... A semi open world flight action RPG. Took a couple of days under a month for it to get here, but it was worth the wait. Well, not that anyone here really cares about an import game, but yeah, it's a really good plane-mech action game with RPG elements with some free exploration. Including dungeon crawling in underground caves/bases and random encounters! It's kinda funny but cool. Anyway, I quickly came to love this intro song. It sounds like something popular... I dunno, Supercell vibes to it or something.
You can play the song as a support skill in-game... Boosts your stats and stuff for its duration. Makes sense. As if the levels of mental elevation it gives while flying around dozens of enemies and missiles wasn't enough support.

Ever heard the Mega Man vs. Zero theme from X5?
These guys made a pretty dang awesome vocal version of it.

You know, while I liked the music in this game, the game was a horrible case of "repeat the same five themes over again." Oh, and any time there's variation it's pretty much the same thing over the course of about every 5 seconds.

That last one is the only real song... And it sounds a bit too eerie for that game. It's more like Castlevania... Like... The first Luigi's Mansion infamous hanging easter egg. *shudders*
Well, I knew I wasn't crazy. That first Metal Gear Rising song I posted is supposed to have more lyrics than that awesome chorus. Song's so awesome it 's worth reporting this true version:

The game has a lot of character; it'll make you happy, it'll make you laugh, it'll make you feel uncomfortable, maybe even seriously frighten you; the game has a couple jump scares that are done well. LM2 is a great game.

Ah, Tears to Tiara. It was a pretty nice anime... It was basically a good Fire Emblem anime (the heroes have an army and there's big skirmishes, but only a cast of characters actually matter)
This is a battle theme that's played like three or four times. Needless to say, it makes those scenes so happy and inspirational.
First play is in episode two when the shonen hero fights together with the demon king hero for the first time, bashing some skeletons while joking/talking smack to each other. That scene really gives the 'we taunderely accept each other as allies' and 'we're in for one heck of a lighthearted adventure.'
The anime OP also has a scene with them fighting back to back fighting a crowd of enemies effortlessly as shonen hero tosses an apple over his shoulder to demon king hero who takes a bite. I like the song a lot, too, but the OP isn't on Youtube.
Anyway, I love this song. One of the nicest battle themes out there. And it's not like just mentioning we like an anime ever makes anyone want to watch it, but I was just reminiscensing, and recommend it in the case someone ever stumbles upon it.

Sounds like one of your claxmotional posts right there. Anyway, nice music, but I guess it's better in context.

Started watching Muv-Luv Alternative as I've finished the original Macross, which despite being from 1986 it's just about the most realistic and engaging love story/triangle I've ever seen, and as usual of old mecha anime, a strong focus on individual characters and a journey through life aboard a mothership. Anyway... Muv-Luv is probably the darkest anime I've gone into. But that opening song is pretty dang hip. What's this genre of music again? Sounds a lot like that remixed God Eater opening. It's like... A genre of music that's dubstep if it was actually good music. In any case, the song's hardcore yet uplifting style is very fitting. The series is about discovered aliens that make their way to semi-modern Earth, and humanity develops mechs in a military to combat them. And by the second episode, you'll see just how seriously it takes this concept. Chaos and discord everywhere... It's very gritty and gruesome. Mechs getting covered in blood as they shoot and cut these things down, blood splattering everywhere in general from these giant aliens. Deaths are all over the episode... And the aliens are incredibly hideous and disturbing... They have huge mouths with human-like structure, and the reason is... They eat humans. And the anime takes the liberty of showing you them doing so. But, there's mechs! Very beautiful ones, at that. In fact, they're my image of EtherRender... Very streamlined, vivid-colored mechs with lights, that come in highly diverse frames, and are about 4-5 stories tall. Furthermore, there's academies dedicated to training mech pilots. And the series is about fending off aliens (EtherRender's first (unfinished) arc!)... The show isn't entirely despair, though. The first two episodes were actually a backstory... Third episode the real protagonist makes his first appearance (a bit strange, isn't it?). And it's pretty lighthearted, just a lot of meeting of the characters, and a superbly animated 2 on 2 mecha mock battle with a really upbeat insert song, and lots of happy chatter and some humor. So it's not entirely despair, but I'm sure it will get serious again... ... Somehow I ended up typing a lot more than I intended. But still, that's a really cool OP song, and I wonder if Al would enjoy this mecha series.

Looks and sounds interesting, but if I'm going to watch a dark mech series I would sooner watch Evangelion.

Diese Al ist mainstream es ist traurig aber wahr
I couldn't recommend it yet anyway, since I'm still early in. There's a song I love from Evangelon, though, but it's end spoilers... So hurry up. Komm Susser Tod. More German! Song's English, though.
I think I can post this one without ruining much.
Please, give me wings~

I plan to watch the original series online before buying the rebuild movies on DVD. That's because evanglelion is basically impossible to get on DVD where I live. I look forward to the rebuilds though, the music seemed nice.
In other news...
HYPE HYPE HYPE!
Episode 16 made the story for Kill la Kill much more interesting. This is what I had been waiting for since episode one. Plus that opening is just amazing.
It does make it more Gurren Lagann like... the villains already have more charismatic faces, so now they only need to be as morally complex as the anti-spirals to make Kill La Kill better than Gurren Lagann by default. Maybe. The lack of a Kamina style death so far may harm the series in the long run for me. Senketsu did just gain the potential to become a more interesting character thanks to episode 16, but I'm wondering why Junketsu hasn't said anything.

A masterpiece approaches:
Slow songs aren't usually easy to remember, or like much at first. Well, this one has a pretty strong intro, and kinda turns into a 'typical' slow song.
But as soon as the main chorus hits, I instantly fell for it... That melody and the harmonies... So breathtaking. So much sadness and hope.
It may have to do with the animation of the ending it's used in, maybe... It consists of fiery orange flower petals, and very abstract scenes with floating droplets and water in a spacy background, and the characters not showing any spirit. And the main melody suddenly changes to an intense inferno-y fiery background, with the characters lined up and their eyes showing despair, yet with fire reflecting, as now literally fiery petals fly by. Above and behind them is mechanical debris floating into the dark empty depths of space.
Well, picture that how you will or look up the ending, but the song's still really something. Has an interesting solo that gets a crazy beat for a few seconds, and the piano ending is nice...

I had this really long post as to why Avatar: The Last Airbender is a masterpiece and a service to the world in terms of western animation, but I lost it so...listen.

With the release of GunZ 2 imminent, I'm hyping alone here.
This was the menu/lobby music to the original GunZ. Man, it's just so awesome. Best MMO lobby music ever? So ambient and calm and desperado... The calm before the storm of gunslinging ninjas having an all out battle on walls and the air defying the laws of nature in the name of style.

I've been trying to restrain sharing this, but it looks like no one's going to watch Evangelion, so I'll share perhaps my favourite OST from the End of Evangelion, lyrics written by the director himself.
When the apocalypse happens, this will be the music that plays. It will be hard to top. What was that? Bombastic choirs and orchestras? Pshaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw! That's funny, and probably true in any other context.
