Is it just me or is he harder to get than most other 4-crystal Borgs? I sometimes spamthe battle "The Decisive Battle: Defeat The Dark Knight" with a Plasma Dragon and do it in a couple of minutes every time but rarely get a crystal. Doing the same technique with any other 4-crystal Borg gets success much quicker.
Also, is he actually any good? The lightning and the red fire ring LOOK cool but are they actually effective?

Dark Knight is rather hard to control, and you have to time the ring of fire attack right, and it's effective for getting a couple of enemy Borgs off of your back!

Dark Knight is one of those borgs where exp means so much less than play style. He is a tricky one all right. I remember the first time I finally got him. I was very excited, then I played him. I played him up to about level 4 and dropped him like a rock.

the thing is that he doesn't have the infinite combo like imperial knight, but has single, powerful moves to replace it. i find myself switching between his blue sword for lightning and red sword for the 3-pronged beam. the amazing thing about him is that he doesn't flinch when you hit his shield, so you can just block while using the 3-pronged beam, and he disappears when you dash on the ground (pure awesomeness). does dark knight have one sword that shoots beams and the other doesn't, like imperial knight? you could also use that sword for long range as well. i wouldn't use the flame thingie. it fails so does the drill attack. too laggy. yeah i suppose that he's pretty difficult to get, but i found it more annoying to get mechanical dragon, unless he's not 4 crystals

The fire ring is pretty bad. It only hits when the ring is largest and you can't move while the fire is spreading. The lightning is pretty good but it causes flinching and flying away iirc.
There's another Orochi battle with Dark Knight in it. You can try that one if you're not getting anything from the Dark Knight mission. It might make a difference, it might not.

I'm unsure on whether or not I'm too late on this response. But I just got him today. This is what I did. If you have unlocked "special mode" than you're set. Keep replaying "the decisive battle: defeat the dark night" or whatever the actual title is. Save before each match. Eventually when you get a piece, if it's a piece you want, great! Though if it is a piece you already have, reset your system and go back into special mode on the same play-through. When you do the battle you should get a piece within 2 plays of the mission (normally on the first one, but not always). When you get another piece, if it still isn't one you need. Reset and play again.
The game decides when you get pieces when you select the mission. Though which actual piece you get is random. This is why this method works.
Hope I helped!

I don't suppose that method works for an alt? I need two, possibly three crystals for the alt, but I keep getting D...

Yeah, it works for alt. But I honestly don't know if the alt will reoccur with every reset. Though I know it works for pieces. I've gotten 3 or 4 borgs that I've never had today. (I just discovered this method today). I've been playing for 5-7 years (give or take for time that I put the game down for a bit). So the method definitely has some backing statistics. I would think it would work for alt but I'm not sure.
Lemme know, Hope I helped.

THERES A ALT DARK KNIGHT?! WHAT!? Yes, there is. His horns and other gold parts are silver, and I think there's probably some easier difference than that to notice, but I've not noticed it. I've not seen a crystal, silver, gold, or black Dark Knight, though. Has anyone else seen one?

So, the score you get in the mission has nothing to do with it? Are you sure? Because I've always had more success when I tried to get a better score than when I just blew everything up with ICBMs. EDIT: It doesn't seem to work as well as you said it would. I got N183C, then reset. After fighting two alt Dark Knights and a normal one, I've acquired no new Data Crystals for it. I'm afraid your method may have been nothing more than luck and random chance. Or I'm just doing it wrong. There's always that possibility. EDIT: Never mind. It works anytime it working wouldn't give me a Data Crystal for an alt, it seems. EDIT AGAIN: Actually, it does work if you get the wrong part of the alt. I'm not sure what I was expecting it to do earlier, but it does, in fact, work for an alt.

I have. (I got that picture from the video camera in my iPod!) That picture is really sweet! well.. You know what I mean. Actually, I'm not sure if you're referring to the quality of the picture or the contents of the picture. But the reason for the picture's (lack of?) quality is that I reduced the contrast and brightness on my TV, so it didn't have diagonal black lines like it would've if I hadn't. As for the contents... I don't think I really need to say anything about that. We all know it's awesome, simply because it means that it is, in fact, possible to get a rare Dark Knight. In theory. I'll probably never finish it, though... EDIT: I've been trying to get this alt Dark Knight for probably about 8 hours, and made no progress... EDIT: A183B!!!!!!!!!! ;D (picture in the next post)

I got it! (But I still can't add multiple attachments to one post...) Note the lack of gold in the spikes/horns/whatever you'd call them on his shoulders. Attachments:

Can't add an attachment to a previous post... That's the 1 I have! I also have a Dark Knight. He may not be so good for avoiding attacks. But that's when the shields come in. I usually use him to annoy other borgs by knocking them off with the lightning slash.

Well.....technically, Orochi doesnt have a character borg. Dark knght, nor death win, are partner borgs. Good luck on getting the others tho!
