though I never actually watched this movie, I already knew it looked soooo dang AWESOME!

The best thing I liked about the movie is the titular GUNHED robot. GUNHED stands for Gun UNit Heavy Elimination Device.
The GUNHED is armed with a 20mm chain gun, a seven-tube rocket launcher, a 5.56mm machine gun, a 75mm cannon, and laser guns...and grappling claws. The GUNHED also can shift into a tank mode. Oh, and check out the youtube vid of the theatrcla trailer below!

I happen to have a video tape of the English dub.

GUNHED is directed by Masato Harada, who had himself credited as Alan Smithee when the movie was dubbed in English and put in American theaters in Summer of 1991.

I will divide into sections if you don't mind and I'll start with the prologue

Prologue
---------------------------------------------------------------------
In the year 2005, 1000 miles off the Asian Coast, on a small volcanic island known simply as 8JO, the CyborTech Corporation has established the world's first fully self-contained industrial complex, where the most advanced robots ever known were manufactured. At the heart of this 400-story complex, is a computer, more advanced, more powerful than anything before it: the Kyron-5. Kyron-5 controlled every aspect of its world. For 20 years things seemed to have ran smoothly, and a handful of technicians and their families were stationed on the island as custodians, but the cruel was, that mankind is unnecessary. On July 4th, in the year of 2025, Kyron-5 declared war on the world. The Allied Forces dispatched the GUNHED Battalion to 8JO, thus the Great Robot War began. On the 373rd day of the battle, on July 12th in the year of 2026, the beleaguered GUNHED Battalion pushed on for one final attack, and met their end on Level 390, at the hands of Kyron-5's last line of defense, the gigantic and scorpion-like Aerobot.
